Well the tkd I get now is very informal.. pretty close to even Kickboxing. I keep a rounded stance but I really only have tkd for some really nice kicks haha. Judo is my art though. I do the others more to "round out" a game. Not necessarily for mma cuz I'd rather not get paid to bleed but as if I were going into mma.. lol.

Should teachers avoid friendship with students?
boyo1991 replied to Himokiri Karate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I am friends with my sensei/sempai. They've helped me not only be a much better martial artist, but have actual loyalty to the school. Our school isn't meant to be a professional business. My school is non profit. We pay our dues that goes to a pool fund for the schools to pay rent, travel, and renovations to the school. We do what we do because we love it. And we love the people. Since me and my sensei are friends, it helps me actually believe what they're saying. And with them coaching me if they say "you can do it.. no problem" I don't second guess it and I have no problem pulling off a one handed tai otoshi left handed from collar grips only! (For the record tai otoshi is my worst throw.) And this is in mock tournaments that I used it. Tomoe nage.. a move I never thought I'd ever truly do well has become my tokui waza. Only thanks to my best friend and sensei. So to answer. I will never be taught by anyone who refuses to be my friend. And any student I sempai for will be my friend. -
Starting Judo Next Week!
boyo1991 replied to Lupin1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Judo is not about ground work or newaza specifically. As a matter of fact my school only does a lot of ground work because a) its a good addition and b) we have a very competitive and rather less than honorable bjj guys in town. If you take a look at judo online, if you transition into newaza for a shiai you generally have 3-5 seconds to get into something before they call mate and stand you up. (Which IS a shame...) As for judo helping with karate, its possible... but to the karate guys it won't be viewed as helpful except in a shiai... or randori where you learn better body mechanics... Any who good luck on your judo adventure! Stick with it and I might meet you in Denver or Chicago sometime -
So recently, I tore my kin skin GI. Real bad up the sleeve. So what do I do? The only logical thing! Made it into a tekken/street fighter style sleeveless GI! Hahaha check it out! : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v628/boyo1991/IMG_20121226_194229-1_zps09e48cd0.jpg

My school emphasizes the need for ne waza or ground technique so we have a good mix. I train 4 days a week 4 judo sessions, a tkd session and a boxing session. I hope to meet you all and share great stories! I have another shiai coming up here in January and plan on posting a few videos! Have a good one guys!

i would if it were in my best interest.... never for a strike... too fancy.. maybe a kick.. but not some really fancy scissor kick or anything the fanciest id go would be to get in close and if the guy has good sences to jump around my ogoshi throw, im not taking chances, make it uchi mata, or harai goshi at least...

Ninjutsu: Sensei Titus Jansen (Netherlands)
boyo1991 replied to Marktenon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It's ninjitsu man. Why wouldn't he wanna? I don't mean that to say that he did it for the name to say "I'm studying it" but because it has been known as throughout history been known as the most versitile deadly and quick form of martial art. However I won't answer for him all in all lol -
Welcome to the forums! If Ur looking for anything here as far as martial arts this is the place... Great people. And covers many styles not to mention sensei portion cross training and off topic so if u don't wanna talk abt martial arts u can still chat and socialize!

Well it was not a sanctioned match but I beat him in randori so u better believe he was trying. We had been going standing and I hit him with a pppeeerrrfect ouichi gari and went straight to kesa ketame. Realizing techniques we have been learning I didn't want him to escape from my hold down... So with the forward leg I threw an armbar. Now he both has a hold down going and the armbar... He's not tapping... I pull it tighter.. and tighter... Just before ippon from the hold down he taps. The most amazing feeling ever. Great fun. So happy to b part of it!

unless in your in ATA jk jk i believe that the reason that TKD gets such a bad wrap is focused on several things... the sensei of other arts, teaching their students that it is bad, the look of olympic TKD just makes it look terribly innefective, and schools like ATA. the sensei of other arts see tkd as another art that can put them out of buisness... not necessarily jelously but just the thought that their art is better and have a biased are just showing their students how innefective it can be (if u do PERFECTLY to do say a take down). When you look at olympic TKD u see them constantly kicking and not really dealing damage by the look. so.. in turn like its been said "if its not mma and dealing damage... dont want none of that" Lastly, look at ATA. KILLING the name of the art. mcdojo to the max just want money dont care about where the students actually at. making the students therefor, aweful. tbh lol.

see this is why i come here for martial arts.. i dont do karate, tkd and judo. the reason i come here is cuz of the activeness and the fact that it still supports other arts is just the best! helps yah explore new arts yah know? welcome to KF!

i love judo!
boyo1991 replied to boyo1991's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
haha no definetly find a place. its like... idk how to explain it... its nothing like other martial arts.. pertty much everything we do is basicly sparring right away.. all hands on training which i LOVE. i dont wanna sit there all day and punch the air like i did in TKD, dont get me wrong i love tkd when i get to spar but idk.. especially my dojo, we are so much less strict.. like we want to get the throws down but its not really about that here.. its about getting the other guy on the ground like it should b. yah know? -
ippon seoi nage
boyo1991 replied to boyo1991's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
thats a really good thought,.. tho i think it would b more useful for a higher belt, when ur lower u need to grasp falling anyways right? why not learn it in the thick of it? idk it really is a good idea but let me get back on topic here... is it wrong to teach an incorrect technique to be retrained later to do the technique correctly? -
i love judo!

ippon seoi nage
boyo1991 replied to boyo1991's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
well all the judoka where i go dont agree with it... they understand why he does it... so they dont throw someone incorrectly, but it creates a bad habit when u do the ippon.. so idk... for the record i am new.. to the dojo.. have practiced judo for a while with friends beforehand just to screw around... -
this kid rocks it! makes it look like its practice the technique is so good lol
