That's really interesting. I think you should try it.

Dear Lord and mother Mary! I'm glad that all worked out as well as it did. And here I was about to complain about the amount of homework I have to do over the weekend. I need a slap in the face

That would be cool if it is actually going through. We should look further into it and see if it's actually happening. Then do all we can to support it.

This is a very interesting question. As far as I know the Bible doesn't say anything about energy. I'll have to ask my mother. She knows so much more about the Bible than I do. That's a risky statement. There are plenty of things on this earth that God did not create or ever want to exist or happen. Sometimes, things that come about and things that we do happen because we become succeptible to Satan's temptations. I'm still on the fence about it. Like I said; I'm going to talk with my parents and see what they think (I don't even think they believe energy exists in this sense).

Philosophy in the dojo
The BB of C replied to greenbelt_girl15's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My Kuk Sool Won school claims to teach philosophy, but they don't. When my friends and I do our experiments, I teach philosophy and a seven part code of ethics. -

We can't teach you online. I suggest physical therepy, wait until you heal, and then start looking for a school near you. -
What am I doing wrong this time?

I never had any intention of quitting because of them. I understand what you're getting at and trust me, that's not the case at all. The case is that they thought I was doing too much of one thing so they asked me to do something else as well. After a few years I found something else I could do and according to them it's all I do and it's annoying to them. Even though there are several things I do. -
Here's my sparring advice: There will always be an open spot. Find it and hit it withing legal limits. Close the distance by moving in with kicks, and then collapse on him and find the most open spot and nail it. Repeat until you win Also. Clear your mind and don't be nervous. You're only going to choke like that.

To be frank I'm not entirely pleased with my training environment now. If I may reiterate: I don't expect anything to be different. I just know that my mother would be more at peace with it. Thank you for saying that. For months I've been trying to find a short way to explain it to my mother (Notice I say my mother a lot. She doesn't study. My father studies and he understands the bowing, but doesn't like it.) for months. The next time she asks, I'll say "It's just like an asian handshake." and it will stick finally. -
Can you describe the rules of the sparring to me?

I'm not sure what the word 'fallacy' means but I pretty much knew it wouldn't be much different from certain things that any other good school would try to teach. Other than the fact that I'd be hanging out with people a lot like me because like I said earlier; all of my friends are either religious or martial artists and I've always wanted to be around people who are both. It might also work out better because most things with the word 'Christian' in front of it registers well with my parents and they probably wouldn't nag about me being so into it. -

I love Frank Peretti! I've got a few books of his in my closet right now. Also, did you say you pray before each martial arts class? Does that mean you're in some kind of Christian martial arts class? Because that would be awesome. I wish I could find something like that around here. My parents wouldn't care how much karate I did if I was in a Christian MA class. Plus I could meet some other people who are religious and martial artists (all of my friends are either one or the other). Now that I think about it, that might be partly on what's throwing my mother off about my martial arts. Before we start every Kuk Sool Won class we bow to a bunch of people and she asks me repeatedly what we're bowing to. -
It happens. I used to be like that.

Why? My parents are really into intelligent or spiritual books. I write adventure novels where the action can get pretty intense (depending on the story) and in some cases gory to a small level. Because of this; my works are not things that they would enjoy reading. -

That's an interesting idea as far as the tournaments and classes thing goes. As far as the writing part; my parents would hate my writing. -
Just because someone is obese, does not mean that they can't be flexible. It has more to do with how much you stretch than with how much you weigh. Many Sumo wrestlers are quite flexible. You can be heavier, and make your moves fast, too. It is all in how you train. Don't get me wrong, though. Identifying a problem like obesity and seeking to fix it is a good idea. Very interesting. I forgot about Sumo wrestlers. That post I wrote there was the Dan in me talking My older brother always told me that I wasn't flexible because I was overweight. And when I lost weight, the first thing I noticed is that I became more flexible. But perhaps I did them both at the same time instead of doing one and the other resulting in it.

I wonder if there are any practicioners out there that would like to write an article and add those styles to the list.

What's your job- what would you like it to be?

My ideal career would be to merge my writing, acting, and martial arts into one occupation. I would be a happy man. -
Defending younger siblings
The BB of C replied to Dazed and Confused's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My parents complain I don't back up my siblings enough. I only let people get away with it if they're my friends and I know they're joking. Or sometimes I know it's going to be a total landslide and he can handle it himself. Anything otherwise, they'll end up like the last guy who thought it would be appropriate to pick on my little brother. It doesn't even matter if I can't take them by myself. My brother(s) will join in if they have to. So far; one person has been able to take on one "M" brother by himself. Nobody has been able to take two. -
When I first started training, I was too obese to be very flexible. So instead of worrying about being able to do splits for high kicks, I just threw as much body momentum as possible in to them. Of course it slowed the kicks down a little bit but it was a good substitute until I lost weight and got flexible. I also switched my fight instinct from offensive to defensive because I've always been too slow to successfully attack, I basically taught myself how to counter really well.

You could be right and there are thousands of instances like that. Though I do believe that to create a martial art, one needs a lot more than what you just listed there. But that's an issue I addressed in the P.S. Note. If you created a style that is not listed, it does not count. That being said, do you think it's a complete list?
-
It's stupid that things like that happen but the fact is that they do and there's nothing we can do about it. Tell your friend "Welcome to the world of street fights, where there is such thing as normal conditions."

A long while ago, I got curious as to just how many different styles of martial arts there are. I looked it up and with the help of our good friend Mr. Internet (Google to be precice), I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_martial_arts I've looked through it all a few times. I counted 302 different styles there. With some styles in the list that are in the articles. I've been calling them "sub-styles" or "branches" whichever term felt appropriate at the time. Anyway, I'm estimating in that whole thing there being at least 350-400 different styles/systems of martial arts. That's simply amazing to me. After I got over my amazement, I started thinking if after even all that, was anything missing from this list. What do you think? P.S. If you have your own style/system of martial arts that is not listed here, it doesn't count.

Ever got hit to the face bare-fisted?
The BB of C replied to Just me's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I know what that's like. Look on the bright side. At least you never got stabbed in the hand with a sai while filming something like some people I know *coughthebbofccough* I've been hit in the face quite a few times. When my friends and I practice, we bare-knuckle everything.
