  1. "i would have tried to get a weapon like a stick and ran away. if someone would be fast enough i would quickly brake his arm and run on." "quickly brake his arm"..... hmm....... yeah right.... You make it sound so easy...... In that situation JJ figher, I would have ran. They may catch you, but its unlikely that ALL 10 would be able to, so you might have a fighting chance if they did so. Find a a place where there are lots of other people and hide..........
  2. O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba. Other than being a man of great spiritual strength, this could only be dwarfed by his martial prowess over eastern asia until his death in 1969. Being one of the first great masters to practice a few techniques well rather than over loading yourself with thousands of techniques. During his youth accomplising physical feats of strength that amaze me and levels of conditioning unheard of in todays modern world. Taking decades to refine one technique before moving on to the next. Not a man to shy away from a challenge from any quater, he and his students defeated some of the best from the Kodokan and Kosen Judo, as well as Karatedo, Kempo, various Kung Fu practioners and Western Wrestlers. http://www.aikidofaq.com/bilder/osensei/osensei88.jpg
  3. I have just got a book on Wrestling, has a small section about Greco-Roman. Looks very interesting, lots of similaritys in some throws to Judo, although they use more upper body strength. Indeed very powerful, not the sort of person you'd wanna mess with. The lack of submissions is a problem, but it does not take a brain surgeon to ground someone with a mega throw then pound them to dust.
  4. I still preach peace and harmony, but I now understand the words in a different light. Osu!
  5. What, you mean I am not a deadly weapon!? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Well, I QUIT!
  6. Would do, unfortunately there are no BJJ gyms where I live. As long as they have had similar mat time as me, I would give them a show.
  7. Karateka traditionally have the trousers half way between the ankle and knee. And the the sleeves half way between the wrist and elbow. But dont cut it to short, as the more you wash it, it will get smaller.
  8. What draws people to Aikido...... Oh god knows, its a lot of hard work for what you actually achieve. But its the belief that Aikido is the path and not the destination. Osu!
  9. Anything by Prof Dillman and the Black Medicine series of books.
  10. Judo, BJJ, Boxing, Mauy Thai, MMA, Kyokyushin Karate, Silat, some styles of Kali/eskrima (that would be lots of armed fighting), submission wreslting and Jeet Kun Do. Hope that helps.
  11. Ninja, you said that the standand is lower in the UK. Just as a point of interest if you can make it to some of Sensei Enoeda's Shotokan classes I think you would be impressed.
  12. Judo is great, and so is the O Goshi throws, but wait until you do ippon seoi nage, thats the damn coolest throw. Congrats on finding something you like.
  13. Probably Judo, they have a lot of experience in teaching the young ones. Just watch out of "Black Belt Clubs".
  14. NinjaMaster, You seem to have a failry concrete opinion of Karate. So I wanted to know what sort of experience you had of the style. Wanted to make sure that I was going to get a worth while debate rather than some 14 year old troll. I also hope you do know the difference between the styles and not lumping them all together. While it is true that diluation is a HUGE problem in the karate and Martial art community. Not all schools are the same. Depends on whether your lucky enough to find a good one. So it seems to me that you have a problem with the mcdojo's and not karate itself. Which I agree with 110%. However, you coming onto the forums knocking karate as a system is generally not a respectable thing. Ofcourse you can have an opinion regardless of lineage, but I wanted to make sure that its an informed one.
  15. Very true omnifinite, however any good Aikidoka should be able to deal with good soild strikes. If he cant then he should switch styles or train harder.
  16. Thats a question I always ask myself. Sometimes I LOVE the USA. Sometimes I HATE the USA. Europe is a joke anyway. Sometimes, I think isolationism is a good idea. But thats not how the world will evolve. Its a question of what is right and wrong. Personally I think we should stick our noses in everyones business sometimes, Mugabe, Lybia, China, Russia....etc the list goes on. But when does it stop and even the Might of the USA armed forces cant stop all of them. Democracy has always been the way to make real gains, but always with the "credable" threat of force, if we let this little league dictor get away with it, then the real players like N.Korea and Iran will see the West as weak. So perhaps it is better to do this now, not just to get rid of Saddam, but as a message to the rest of the world, to get them back around the table and make some REAL disussions.
  17. Shotokan is basically karate for kids. Funokoshi modified karate so he could teach it to children and it was then called Shotokan. I've found Shotokan to be too Japanese i.e. too linear, too hard and too stylized. Goju is one of the arts that Shotokan was derived from, has both circular and linear movements, is hard and soft and far more practical for the street. In a word wrong. Shotokan did not come from Goju, they both came from Sensei Itosu. Shotokan is karate for kids........... disrepectful much! I will think you'll find that GRAND MASTER Itosu made Karate teachable to children. So they are both equally hard or easy to learn.
  18. *Claps Grunt*
  19. Ninjamaster, hi there. I did not relise this "debate" was going on in here, or I would have stepped in earlier. You do Thai boxing? Ok, more or less explains your ideaology. So what experience do you have of karatedo, do you have any proof and linages? Thanks.
  20. Funny G95, I guess when you have the FRENCH winning your battles for you, it must feel a bit of a hallow victory........ Just kiddin'
  21. Grappling does not get much better than BJJ and Judo if I am honest. Perhaps Kito Jujutsu, but they are thin on the ground outside of Japan. If you REALLY like ground work then Kosen Judo would suit you, but like you said, you dont want Judo or BJJ.
  22. Saddly, that sounds like a poor teacher, and one of the reasons why Aikido looks so bad sometimes.
