  1. Kid Aikido? Or Ki? IMHO I think most Karate and Aikido principles are so different they wont gel. I was thinking of doing Wado ryu, but like I said, just too different. Although perhaps Yoshinkan Aikido might work better with Karate.
  2. True true Treebranch.
  3. Nails! Nail it on!
  4. I've studied Shotokan and study Ki Aikido and Judo. Pro's Deep Stances Strong Technique Linear Cons Deep Stances Kata Grappling range limited Weapons training limited Internal training limited Conditioning limied. Ofcourse I can only go one what I learnt, I have no doubt there are some amazing Shotokan Schools, I just didnt go to one. Having never fought a Karateka with Ki Aikido or Judo, I wouldnt really know how things would pan out. I did I fight a challenge, I'd probably just use the Judo I know to drag them to the floor and tap them before Shotokanka TKO'd me.
  5. The only person that can stop you training in what you train in is YOU. This only shows a weakness in character that Karate should help you with. As for grappling, grappling is very important as a range of fighting, possibly more so than some others (ie kicking IMHO). This is a weakness in so many styles, its important that you admitt that a Karateka is not going to be able to go toe toe grappling with a Judoka or BJJer. So you either learn how to avoid those ranges or you learn to fight in them. Either way I think you should do some grappling.
  6. 1) Hsing I 2) Ba Gua 3)BJJ Mainy because I do Japanese arts I would be interested in seeing different nations arts, plus I really love the internal systems.
  7. Judo, BJJ, Wrestling and I've heard some good things about San Shou (Chinese Wrestling) too.
  8. Well other than strategic reasons, they also display important moral obligations. The seven pleasts in the Hakama represent the Seven Virtues of Budo: Jin Benevolence Gi honour Rei Courtesy Chi Wisdom Shin Sinerity Chu Loyalty Koh Piety
  9. Aikido can be approached from so many different angles. Some stressing atemi waza, some more on Ki development....... etc. If you interested in the more Self Defence area, then either Yoshinkan, Shodokan or Yoshinkai. The more long haul styles are Aikikai, Shin SHin toitsu and Ki.
  10. San Soo is "basically" a Chinese striking art. San Shou is "basically" a Chinese grappling art.
  11. BEING UKE is the BEST BIT! Although I cant denie throwing my kyu grade comrades across the dojo is great fun, getting thrown by 10% of my Sensei's ability is something I really cherish.
  12. Get in the ring with them and prove them wrong. If not, start posting something more creative rather than basically flaming them even though you denie that. *shocked that I stuck up for MTists*
  13. Umm, this is an impossible task. There are about a GAGILLION Kung Fu styles, ranging from Tai Chi to Eagle claw. That are so different from one other you'd think they were from a different planet, same goes for Karate. PS Kung Fu just means "hard work", Wing Chun KUNG FU would be a style. Karate means "empty hand" Shotokan Karate would be a style, so try and be more specific in your question. But Kung Fu is WAYYYY better! NO, KARATE DO IS BETTER! But your asking the wrong quesiton, why dont all people study AIKIDO as it is quiet clearly better than everything else...............
  14. Aikido is the ART OF THE GODS! Thats all I have to say.
  15. Atemi, in Aikido, are not the same as that in Karatedo. Karatedo practioners use Atemi to effect the attackers structure, ie breaking noses and ribs and stuff, although well placed Aikido atemi do have this effect, primarily they are used to disrupt the attackers balance so setting them up for a throw or a lock. Atemi strickly means "to strike" the hand, fore arm, elbow, knee or foot....etc is Atemi. As for competitions, free style randori was adopted at some point in the 1950's however, due the huge number of injures no one would insure the competitions because of the amount of pay outs they had to make. So Tomiki type randori was created to allow Aikidoka to play safely. Hope this helps.
  16. Something like a side mount or kesa katame, into Juji gatame (arm bar), get them to over commit to the defence of the arm then change the lock to Ude Garume.
  17. I am not a big Bruce Lee fan, but he was indeed a gifted man. I dont think it was really his place to judge styles he had never studied. But it is an interesting read.
  18. AIKIDO OWNS YOU ALL! MW MW MW HAHAHAHA! Just kidding, if I were you, visit each class and see what you like. I dont think you can really gauage whether they are for you unless you try a few sessions. Best of luck.
  19. Nope never, and I hope to keep it that way to.
  20. It does not seem that fast, its just the Tenkan movement, proved that you have maintained a good maai, enter into yout partners place. You basically follow is back to the shoulder.
  21. BJJ = Basically Just Judo. Just joking. However they are very similar. The only differene techniques wise is that BJJers focus on the ground and Judoka focus on standing.
  22. Defending against a drunk, well I think any MA has techniques to deal with that. Its just whether you have the bottle at that time and place to do it. However, I dont care what people say, Aikido is effective. The question is, can you stick at it long enough for it to be so. Jerry, I have been working on the jab idea, its the same as dealing with the shomen strike, enter deeply and keep control of the elbow. Seems to have worked well so far. Regards,
  23. FOR GODS SAKE THEY ARE NINJA! THEY ARE EVIL! RUN!
