Then perhaps you should read the "code of the Samurai" a great tranlation by Tomas Cleary. In war there are always calsulaty's in this case and for many Samurai it was their code by which they "should" have lived. The code runs along the same lines as what O Sensei Ueshiba created. To use your martial abilitys for the better. However there are always some that do not. Although I have not read the book you speak of, I would believe that some or even many would break the code. For me the true Samuari is a person that upholds the code, of truth, honour and justice. Aikido is based on the prinicples of O Sensei, in turn he got many of his ideas from Sokaku Takeda, a great Samurai, perhaps a little heavy handed, but never betrade the code. You also said that monks used there powers for good. In some cases I would agree with you, however all people cant win there fight against greed. The reason why Wing Chun excists, and some of the great Kung Fu styles were hunted to exstintion is because of greed and jealously. Are you familiar with the story of Ng Moy and Wing Chun. Ng Moy had to flee the shoalin monestry because some of the monks truned against it in favour of there Manchurian rulers. The only reason that they could enter the temple is because of the stray monks. All people are open to turning to the "evil" side. Not just the Samurai. In truth I would not consider myself a Samurai. Of course not, but I believe and try to live in there basic beliefs. Be Well

Fair enother young one, I wont make any more comments about you personally in your posts. But when ones opinions change over a matter of minutes its hard to keep up. But I am glad that you are sticking to Wado Ryu, tis a noble art indeed. Always go with instinct, this usually means that you enjoy and respect the art, its important to have both. _________________ *Aikidoka* Master the Divine Techniques of Aiki and no foe will dare to challenge you. I would rather think of myself as a noble Samurai. Although I like the Bushido.

That is nothing compared to the Soke. I would not dare offend your Family friend. But I would always put my camp next to Soke H. Very well, I wont agree but there you go. Be Well

JAPANESE!!!!!!!!!! LOL! Gichin Funakoshi is Okinawan. But he did travel and took his brand of Karate to Japan. He demonstrated at a judo dojo, they were so impressed that he was asked to say on. No Karate is japanese, it's ALL Okinawan. Be Well _________________ *Aikidoka* Master the Divine Techniques of Aiki and no foe will dare to challenge you. To be fair eye of the tiger, you are'nt really all the made up yourself, you change from wado to shotokan everyother day. You have to go with your instinct, what you think you will continue to go to day in day out. This is the only way you get better. Once you have choosen STICK to it, even if you flirt with the idea of other martial arts, make sure you stay true to the one you like the most. Sometimes its hard sticking to one, because other martial arts are different, but stay with it and the passion will return. With that instinct you should choose what sort of martial art you want weither its sport, budo, striking, grappling, kicking, sort and hard. What suits your personality. Be Well

A super style?! A super style has already been tried and it turned into TKD. Which is not really a super style. Would be great to see however as all there ideas would seriously conflict, the hard style practioners not agreeing with the soft styles etc. But non the less just to see them together, and to hear what they would tlak about is fasinating

A strange title, but something that I would love to do, is have lunch or whatever with my idol martial artists for any period in time, so raise the dead in some cases. For me that would be O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba, Doshu K Ueshiba, Doshu M. Ueshiba, Soke Tohei, Soke Shioda, Bruce lee, Dr Hatsumi, Soke Takemutsu and maybe Yip Man and Sensei Funakoshi and Kano. What would you people chose? Be Well

The Japanese martial arts are superior, I cant argue with that.

Basic techniques, first find what union your club is part of. Either KUGB or SEKU, those are the biggest 2 in the UK. For good "practice" books that really only show you what you need to grade buy books by "Sensei Eneoda"(8th dan) one is called 10 kyu to 6 kyu then the other is 5th kyu to 1st Dan, he has done some adavnced stuff to but thats for later. These can be got off Amazon. Try to get the grips with the kata first. Kihon, Heian shodan, heian nidan etc. Really get used to holding the 3 basis postures, Zenkutsu, kokutsu and kiba Dachi. Which are basically all the stances you use. Also look at the basic punching and kicking, dont think that you can just jump into doing yokogeri's, tobikomi's and Mwashigeri's. get one kick, punch right at a time. Be Well

Who beleives in KI Power
Kensai replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Like Fry said it is not a wether to believe in question, its a fact. You will see Aikidoka throw eachother around the room effortlessly, and after training for an hour not really all the tired. This is Ki, Ki is when you rush into a burning house and carry out a child on each arm, Ki is when you lift a car that is crushing a fellow man. Ki is when you feel that you have nothing left, then mannage to win! Ki is It is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. The giver and taker of life, depending on how you use it. Eye of the tiger, you are doing Wado and kick boxing, they dont use Ki to its fullest, watch a Hsing-i, Aikido, Hapkido, Tai Chi, Wing Chun and Ninjutsu practioner. These are the more popular martial arts that use it, I am sure there are many more. Karate uses what is known as "Hard Ki" used to smash bords and though body's, but the true essence of Ki is to be at one with the Universe, to join with the principles of nature, if one goes against nature, and therefore the universe the how can you optain great powers. A little philosphical I know, but it holds water. If you want to find out more read Sensei Koichi Tohei's book on "Ki in every day life", or "Aikido". I know nothing about the Chinese martial arts in this respect. But perhaps a book by Yip Man or William Cheung. Be Well -
Takamutsu Sensei's dieing wish (the last of the combat ninja) wanted Ninjutsu to be brought unto the world. Can't argue with the facts. Frying do you have issues? Perhaps you should read about the ninja, then come back to me. As it is pretty clear that on the subject of the ninja you know nothing. I am sure that on all other martial arts you are informed, but in this case you are not. I would be the first to agree you with if you were right. I am also not a ninja, (dont practice ninjutsu). SO this is not a personal thing. Hatsumi is a joke in a black suit.................... you have to sleep some time I hope no ninja's take that personally matey........... be well
-
WHAT! So you are trying to say to me that Dr M.Hatsumi, Soke of Ninjutsu is not a NINJA. Don't make me laugh. More to the point, a ninja, when the word is broken down means "nin" = ninjutsu and "ja" = person. "quoted from The Grandmasters book of Ninja Training by DR MASAAKI HATSUMI" Smiley all you are giving is your opinion, which is all well and good. The ninja's oringally were a group of farmers, that were feed up with the hight taxes imposed by the ruling tent governments. "groups of assassins, and the extinct lineages" This is a joke. Ninjutsu is one of the fastest growing martial arts. A ninja in Soke Hatsumi's mind is "Someone who believes in the free principles of Ninjutsu and that can understand the has the ability to proform there physical movements of the ninja". I am sure that your knowledge of ninjutsu is vast but I would say that Soke Hatsumi's is well better. Lets just agree to disagree.

I study Ki Aikido. I have not been studying long. Very good fun, I have a great Sensei. 4 people. Thats what I think all Aikido black belt gradings consist of. Is it called Randori?
-
Yea I thought it was. Look for Sensei Abe. I think he is a good Wado Karateka.
-
Taikudo-ka, has no idea about Ninjutsu. Weapons are only an extention of ones body and a substanctial, but not central part of Ninjutsu. Also of the techniques are done against kicks and punchs. Armed and Unarmed. Taikudo-ka just to be picky, nunchucks are Chinse and not used by the Ninja, they commonly use the chain though which is the closet thing to a nunchuck. Although in crappy films you may seem them with them. However due to japans STRICK immigration laws are the time of the tent governments (shogunate) no foreign weapons would have been used away.

Having studied Taijutsu for a time, the street applications are very useful. Not saying the Wing Chun is'nt. However to be good at ANY martial art takes time and perciverance. Taijutsu is the same. As long as the club under Soke Hatsumi's name, the it is genuine. Aikido which is what i study, is similiar, with good ground work, but does not have the strikes that Taijutsu has, but Aikido has more Ki cultivation. If you are looking for a martial ar that you will be better at when you are 60 than you are at 20, so for something like Aikido, Taijutsu even Wing Chun. But stay away from the hard styles, as you age and your bones get thinner and you are not as fit then you are going to get hurt, more so than you would doing a soft style. Train Well
-
In my mind it is not the body, it is the mind that choses the martial art. More agreeably however with the hard restricive martial arts it does require you to be of good fittness. But I know people, tall and short, big and small builds that study the same art, shotokan in this case. Some are better at Kicking some at striking. Eye of the tiger, stick to Wado, as they are both bases on Okinawan styles, Wado is a little younger at martal arts go. Created by one of Gichin Funakoshi Sensei's students, who i think also studied Jujutsu.

XpOiSoN FrEeX If you live in Surrey, there is a great ninjutsu teacher at Surrey Uni. He is a 8th dan and his Shidoish ho is a 6th dan. Have a look if you can.

As I have said before. Become a ninja by studying the art, and by understanding and believing in its philosophy. Soke Hatsumi, the GRAND MASTER OF BUJINKAN Ninjutsu is a NINJA. The members of his club are ninja, the people that study ninjutsu are NINJAS! Soke Hatsumi is not a member of a ninja clan, nor is he of a ninja family. He's just a guy in fact he is a bone doctor. So a ninja can be a normal man, could be sitting right next to you know, or the next time you are in a bus he could be looking at you and you would not know it. THAT IS THE WAY OF THE NINJA!
