  1. So when there is an ITF tournament does the scoring differ from a WTF tournament ?
  2. I thought i would pass this site on .. a site with the ITF forms you can down load on real player or quicktime. http://www.taekwondo.edu.sg/
  3. We've had a few people join our TKD class for the evening that were visiting our area from out of town. Have you thought about bringing your uniform and seeking out a school and asking if you could work out with them ?
  4. The last time i sparred i ended up with a broken wrist, i went to kick the guy and ended up i suppose going a bit to fast and my momentum carried me over and i fell, heard 3 cracks and pretty much figured what happened. I'm still a little gun shy and i know i have to get back in there and do it, but i think i'll stick to concentrating on form for a while.
  5. I know this has been said many times here, Dont be afraid to die, dont be afraid to live. Possibly going beyond the scope or intent of this thread, put your Trust in God..and always know that your life is going according to His plan.
  6. Well..this is one such thing but not the one i was thinking of. Years ago an offensive lineman coming out of college drank these super high calorie milkshakes .. anyway.. http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/tl/gainers2500.html I'm only posting this for the hell of it, gaining weight can be a desirable thing, but i would strongly suggest doing it in a healthy manner or even not at all. One day your metabolism will change, your excercise habits will likely change and you may be like a few of the guys i work with who decided to bulk up, gain weight and now they're more or less a couple of fat guys who's excercise habits have changed but they're eating habits have not. Ya gotta work with the hand your dealt, more than a few people have bulked up and ended up with serious injuries because the structures of their bodies could not sustain the added weight.
  7. I should have added and i know this sounds un-real, but certainly on the internet is the recipe for what is called like the 5000 calorie milkshake.
  8. Or you could always wait until your mid 30's come along and suddenly you realize that your metabolism has slowed down and now you are having a hard time staying trim. Man what i'd give to have that back !!!
  9. I wish they would do that at my school..i was taking lessons with my son, but he was always reluctant to go because he didn't know anyone, that way at least he could possibly have a friend to go with.
  10. That's great info Taikudo, thanks !
  11. I was thinking about this last night as we were doing ridge hand strikes and round kicks on the pads last night..usually if the instructor see's an obvious mismatch, both size and weight, he'll put comparable people together. I was with another guy about my size, 6' tall - i weigh about 190 he weighs probably 230 or 240 - i work out on a regular basis bench 300 blah blah blah. Who's kick or punch has more power ? The bigger person or the stronger person ?
  12. Your going to get it Deby and then in fashion you'll pass on what you have learned to some else trying to get it. Keep working hard !!
  13. Yes, even though i'm really quite new to the martial arts i believe i've picked a good place to learn. I know i've seen this debated here before but for me i feel more comfortable with an older instructor. Not that i have anything against ones that are younger, but being 37 i feel i relate a little better to an older instructor rather than someone who may be in their early 20's. Anyway, being from Minnesota as usual i'm looking at warmer climates to live in..here's a link from an Arizona TKD school with a number of breaks they have on downloadable videos. http://www.aztaekwondo.com/breaks.htm Regards
  14. Hi Deby, Cool that you posted the link to my school, The Minnesota Tae-Kwon-Do center. Dr. Haaland is terrific and a great instructor. It's amazing i believe he's 72 and you should see this guy move !!! I dont know if you read it or not but he has a fairly interesting bio on the site as well. Regards
  15. That's interesting .. i was able to pull the ITF forms, i guess they're probably not all that much different from what i'm doing. Why is there an ITF and a WTF - cant we all just get along
  16. Hello everyone, I was wondering what forms you are required to learn in your school for your belt tests. In my school we have to learn both Taeguek and Palgwe. Regards
  17. I've had an extended time off now due to a broken wrist. I'm only ready to test for my orange belt in TKD and have been trying to stretch, practice form and kicks. Still it's been about 3 months since i've been to class. It'll be interesting, i'm nervous and excited to begin again.
  18. I just had to laugh reading this thread. I'm 36 and started back in about Feb or so. I worked through my yellow belt and was getting ready to test for my orange..and promptly broke my wrist while sparring. I still dont even know what really happened, i think i went to give someone a round kick a little too fast and a little too hard and ended up falling on my wrist..thankfully i finally got the cast off and am now about ready to start going back to class. Whaddya do ? Gotta get back on that horse and try again.
