  1. An interesting thought.. My honest answer is sometimes. I wish we could slow down a bit. For me i feel one of the disadvantages that i have is unlearning 38 years of habits in the way that i move. Not necessarily with all things but as an older beginner ( a bit over a year ) i find that relearning in a way how to move has proven difficult. Dont even talk about trying to be flexible after never stretching in my life. I've made great strides but i have a long ways to go where as someone 20 years younger would have a great advantage.
  2. Although an old quote..this is so true: To the world you may be one person - But to one person you may be the world. Always hold yourself up as a good example and be thankful to those who helped you along the way. Giving back to others out of respect for those who gave to you is a blessing. I love to help and teach if i'm able..i was one of those who fell through the cracks because of either being to shy to ask for help or just not being noticed that i had trouble. Always look out for others. See quote number one.
  3. I have to agree with Robert. I can learn very effective fighting techniques with TKD. Also keep in mind that TKD is a varied martial art combining many different things. Ji Do Kwan, Moo Duk Kwan, Chung Do Kwan, Song Moo Kwan and others i cant remember Each have their own techniques, forms, one steps and so on. Can it be an effective combat art ? Hell yes. In a real life fighting situation would i be inclined to throw a spinning hook, jump three feet in the air with double half twist ? I doubt it, ya never know i guess, but probably not. Would i get out of my opponents way? Put a hand down on the ground and a kick to the side of his knee and take him down ? ( brown belt one step ) maybe. There's a lot to TKD that if your aren't doing it, your not aware of. As with any art it has it's devastating techniques, will you have the presence of mind to use them under a real situation..who knows. Always fall back on your training.
  4. Not sure how this escaped me, but i finally found a forms video/dvd for taegeuks and palgwe forms. Cool. http://www.turtlepress.com/default.htm
  5. Thank KK1975 .. although i think hate is a strong word .. at least you were able to explain a bit better what i was thinking about. I must've missed the part where the King was 13 - If so keep this bit of advice tucked away for future reference. When dealing with Women/Girls always be honest, true to her and more importantly true to yourself. Putting up a front is not only dishonest to her but also dishonest to yourself. If she doesn't like you for who you truely are, the relationship is doomed before it starts. Keep in mind that there's only one of you, completely unique and different from anyone else. Find someone who values and appreciates that. Regards
  6. Just be yourself. Dont put up a big front to try and win her favor. Girls are funny creatures. Or as Gump once said " they're like a box of chocolates .. ya just never know what your going to get "
  7. Low bow ... i'm just not in the same geekienest league .. i'm not worthy i'm not worthy... Thanks Ken .. my son however is a different story. I'll have to consult him for more details.
  8. What she said .. Where is it revealed that she's a cyborg
  9. Ahh..but Wolverine can be killed, just as he killed a female version of himself. ( she was kinda hot by the way ) I took my son to the movie over the weekend. Not bad. Looking real forward to the Matrix Reloaded coming out in about 10 days.
  10. Even for me..a 38 year old !! I just got over a break that scared the blank out of me..and i actually told a few people about it when i was done. To be able to share our accomplishments with each other is important. My break ( even for kind of a beginner ) was a knife hand. And i had to hold the board with the wrist i broke not to long ago. Frankly, i was very nervous about it. Like many other folks, being able to work with my hands is paramount to be able to earn a living !! 90 percent of my job is spent at a computer..i need to able to key about 80 words a minute to be effective at what i'm doing. One handed doesn't work. Was i proud of myself ?? Your D-MN right i was !! First shot and i didn't feel a thing. It was a huge confidence booster for me and i needed it.
  11. Thanks jmy77 .. i thought i was going to get flamed for that remark. In my opinion, martial arts, physical activity ( working out and such ) is a very honest thing. You cant fool yourself into doing more than it's possible for your body to do. The satisfaction i derive from working out, from pushing myself harder, doing the extra reps and then being able to look in the mirror and think highly of myself - is a very pure thing. I dont work out for anyone else, i think any sort of enhancer is dishonest..like lying to yourself.
  12. It's for people who cant play with the hand they've been dealt.
  13. Good link for all things Tae Kwon Do - but also for Palgwe forms. http://www.fisks.com/tkd/default.htm
  14. Welcome back from Vegas..what a place I just got back from almost two weeks in Florida. I thought i would be ready to be home but alas..i wanna go back Oh well..it's not going anywhere. So there's always next year.
  15. We stay at the Paris. I haven't stayed at MGM. I hate to say it, if your not familiar with craps i would go to the free lessons that casinos offer. It's a quick game with a lot going on. It's an easy game to learn and play, but can be a little intimidating. You'll know the craps pit if you follow all the screaming and shouting - what a game ! LAS is a lot of fun if you haven't been there before, there is so much to see and do. If you do anything out there do this, take the elevator to the top of the Eiffel Tower - it's about 15-20 bucks but well worth the trip. Go at night and stay up there until the Bellagio Fountains get going. Have FUN !!!
  16. Craps is hands down the best odds game in Vegas aside from doubling your money by folding it over, putting it back in your pocket, and walking away. I'm not a big bettor in craps, but i've seen people win and lose thousands at the table. I was fortunate enough to have the dice while a lady next to me was betting about 1000.00 a roll. I held the dice for about 30 rolls, she made some serious dough. I was able to pass five times and hit a bunch of inside numbers. What a riot, it was at about 1000 am at the Paris. She was about 70 years old, what a doll. For everything you wanted to know about craps and more: http://www.dicesetter.com/ Go here. There's a message as board was well, it's a fun site to read, but post carefully, these are extremely serious people. Best of luck to you !
  17. You know that's right ! We've been fortunate to be able to go a couple three times a year. What a place. Gimme the dice, i'm a craps player
  18. Favorite place to go - i'm not sure if you can call a vacation, vacation..but what a town. Was just there in mid January and dying to go back again since.
  19. Maybe this summer, but for sure next week. Oh thank God i'm getting out of here for a couple of weeks and heading to Florida with the wife and kids. At the time we booked finding cheap airfare from Minnesota was tough. By adjusting our days we were able to pull it off. Leave on a Thurs return on a Tuesday. Although i'm considering 1200.00 for the four of us cheap, cause i wasn't able to find anything else lower than 1600.00 ( including taxes, fuel surcharge, security bs and everything else. )
  20. I started my son when he was 9. By the time he was 9 and a third he was done. I wish i could have kept him up with it, and maybe it was me, but in my opinion, i couldn't get him to distinguish that while it's a fun thing to do, being in class isn't necessarily time to have fun. You have to settle down, receive instruction and focus. Which i just dont see him at this time doing. All kids are different, i really, really hope at some point i can bring him back.
  21. Hello Rhuarc, Here's a great site for WTF forms. http://www.fisks.com/tkd/default.htm I'm not sure about the other stuff your looking for, but it's an awesome website either way.
  22. Broken wrist while sparring Couple of groin pulls. I dunno for some reason your injury sounds worse. D-mn ! That must've hurt !
  23. I thought i would throw this out there. There is quite an international community posting here, how do some of those from around the world see Americans ? Good, bad, ugly, pompous, self serving, other ? I'm not trying to start any arguments, only trying to get an opinion from those outside of the U.S. Regards
  24. Have you thought about having someone video tape while your in class ? If allowable this would seem to be a simple, cost effective solution.
