  1. Not bad In the school i was attending we had to learn the Taegueks, Palgwes and another set of forms called Chong Bong. In addition to sparring, history, etc. As an update to a previous post on this thread, i will be visiting and should start attending the school with GM Ro after i return from vacation in April. I'm unfortunately getting my shift changed at work from a 0600-14:30 to a 1400-2300 The day after i return. This should allow me to attend the day class up to 5 days a week if i choose.
  2. I should have noted. It's a killer AB excercise That along with doing the one where your laying on the floor with your legs raised and your kind of riding a bike and as each leg is moving your doing a sit up or crunch to the opposite side. Youch ! But great for your upper abdominal muscles.
  3. There is an excercise i used to do that resembled a thing on t.v. - called like an ab roller or something. Take your dumbell and put it on the floor. Hold the dumbell while your on your hands and knees and roll the dumbell out in front of you so your almost lying face down on the floor and pull yourself back to a hands and knees position. I'm sure if anyone else remembers these things they could explain it better I hope that makes sense. This does work for your stomach - but with any excercise in strengthening your stomach muscles be careful of your back !! Especially if you attempt this on as it puts you in an awkward position.
  4. I will for sure. I cant say when positively, but i'm excited to meet him. Here's a blast from your past: I did speak to someone at the school last night, the forms they teach are Tae-Geuk and Chung Bong. Which you know were developed by Master Jay Hyon, Dr. Haaland's instructor and taught at MNTKD along with the Tae-Geuk and Palgwe forms. Read a little more here: http://www.tigerconsulting.org/forms.htm There are other articles online. As usual tread carefully, as happens so often, if something seems to good to be true, it usually isn't.
  5. That's great info KC, thanks. I did a little reading on this as well last night. Wow. I understood from being in class the part about the kwans being unified in the 50's, but i guess i didn't understand exactly what that meant. It's really kind of confusing. I think it's fairly interesting that for the unification effort that was made, it didn't really unify the kwans at all ! Tae-Kwon-Do is, for lack of a better analogy, a quilt of many different parts of cloth. I called the school that GM Ro started here and he still teaches many of the classes. I'm going to drop by and check it out. Regards
  6. Well i just copies this from my schools website: Our basics are derived from song moo kwan, ji do kwan and chung do kwan. I think i need to read up a bit on this stuff. Yikes.
  7. I haven't studied this a whole lot KC - care to provide a little more info ? I have no idea what " kwan " my current school is. It's a WTF school that teaches Palgwe and Tae-geuk forms.
  8. How about this one.. http://www.songmookwan.com/songsite/songhist.html I haven't seen much about these schools. It's looks interesting though as the NATF is based not far from my home and GM Ro is head instructor and also teaches Hapkido.
  9. Anyone do Combat Hapkido ? This is one i've wanted to try and have finally found a place that teaches it in my area. Just trying to get an idea of what i can expect. Regards
  10. Aside from martial arts, life carries on. Being a dad is busy work. Between running my two kids everywhere on the face of the planet, softball, basketball, baseball, football. I'm also a guitar player and have been for almost 24 years now ( God i feel old ! ) I love my Telecaster. I also have three amps i play it through, Peavey Classic 30, 64 Princeton and a 46 Gibson ( great tone ). Somewhere i try and squeeze in working out daily, practicing TKD daily, although a shoulder injury has kept me going to class I can still practice all my kicks, just have to take it easy on blocks. First things first though, i have to help at home, since i get home from work at 3 pm there's always lots of cleaning, laundry and supper to make before the kids get home from school, so we all have time to do activities.
  11. So that's the PM feature, cool. Reply sent.
  12. I was training at Minnesota Tae-Kwon-Do. A shoulder injury has kept me out now for a while and wondering if something else wouldn't be better for me. I enjoy TKD but have gotten curious about other arts as well. I think your list covered it well, there is so much out there ! You ?
  13. Respected. So who do you think Jesus was ? But as an aside to a comment you made on another post, you are disrespecting Christ, by not believing on Him or God.
  14. Niel.. I'm from St. Paul also, Do you know of a place that teaches Hapkido exclusively ? Have you checked this place out ? http://www.mnkali.com/html/about_rick.php
  15. Bonds or cash is the safest investment for now. There are a few sectors doing well, Gold, Oil but really not much else. The down side to oil and gold is that if you want to get in now, it's too late, the money has already been made and you'd be getting in at the top and not the bottom. Everything is getting pounded. If your in the market long term - 10 plus years, buy and hold. What goes down will eventually come up. If i had a ton of money, just to burn. I'd buy UAL, AMR and look at the other airlines carefully, otherwise any rally we see in the market is very speculative and all the data and other indicators suggest the economy is still very much in a slump.
  16. Here's where i think your missing it Kensai, Your holding God responsible for peoples actions.
  17. I wasn't correct, actually the one i posted came from a link on this site: http://www.fisks.com/tkd/default.htm Which KC directly me to when i first visited here. Either way, for WTF they're awesome sites. Check out the quick time movies for forms, something i wish every school would provide. They can never replace having an instructor going over proper technique with you, but it sure does help to have a good visual reference, rather than a sheet of paper with the forms. Regards
  18. KickChick provided this link awhile ago, i think it's the best TKD site out there. http://members.aol.com/ustccolospgs/USTCStudentGuide.htm
  19. This stuff is garbage. Run as far away from it as you can ! Ephedra is nothing but a low class stimulant. Kickchick - would you let or encourage your kids to take this crap ?
  20. Can it be simply said that the difference between art and sport is it turns into a sport when you begin competeing against others ?
  21. For me anyway, martial arts aren't so much as learning how to fight or defend myself, but more of a battle with myself and what i've learned through the years of what i dont think i can do. As i've only been doing this for about a year now and originally joined with my son ( who no longer attends ) i've discovered a few things about myself and have over came a few other obstacles that i personally face. We're faced with ourselves every day when we look in the mirror. I think most of us know our shortcomings and fears. Part of mental strength for me is facing those things and overcoming them. You are who your experiences have taught you to be, mental toughness in my opinion in nothing more facing yourself.
  22. Can i play too ? Almost 38 I'd like to see how some of you folks approach your training. For those of us with kids and houses and jobs ( obviously ) i'm curious to also see how folks fit trainging into busy schedules cause while the mind is saying go go go - the old flesh is saying - Man i'm whipped
  23. This is exactly why i wish had a few Hapkido only dojo's around. We have zero, none, nada...
  24. I didn't know such a thing existed. I'll have to check my local stores.
