  1. He obviously was just itching for a fight. Why give it to him? The legal repercussions should make anyone think twice about fighting. I'd walk away into the crowd and forget I ever ran into a jerk like that.
  2. Have fun ya lucky bugger
  3. All a distancing factor. Long range = Spidey, Short range = Wolvie. Now if wolverine can keep going long enough to wear spidey down its over.
  4. LOL that was funny TJS. I can just see him running around in circles "I am blind! Dear lord I am blind!"
  5. The Beatles. All of them, alive or dead. Can we go just one day without hearing any of their music on the radio or tv? SMACK
  6. The average range seems to be $40 US to $70 US. All of the more "in" arts right now (BJJ, MT, JKD) in the area charge $100 or more. But on the otherhand I found a very traditional Karate dojo that charges nearly as much. When I was in school I paid $40 a semester for TKD but now that I'm done it's $60 a month at the main school. I think the difference in cost is due to the college tkd club isn't paying for facility use/rent. Minneapolis/Saint Paul.
  7. Actually MMA fighters have a lot more realistic views on there abilities, because they test them daily. Go to any MMA board and look for discussions on dealing with weapons or multiple attackers. The only response you will find is "Don't try it" Now go to Traditional boards and magazines and you will find all sorts of bad A$$es who can tell you exactly how to do it. I agree with you. But perhaps you missed the "zing" and "it's all in good fun part" I wrote? I saw your tonge-in -cheek response and poked back a bit. As a "traditional" MAist (man I hate that term) I would never advise anyone to how to deal with weapons or multiple attackers. No i take that back. I think I'd say dont do it. funny how were similar eh? have a good day Andrew
  8. funny. It's the same mythical creature every MMA's is sure he could beat the snot out of... until the reverse happens to him! Zing, back at ya All in good fun I think it's just a term for a person that gets in alot of fights, is used to getting hit and hitting, and isn't going to follow any set of "rules". they're just going to pound you anyway they can. In short, a thug.
  9. I like to do alot of outdoor things: Bike, tennis (I used to teach), hike, bird watch, camp etc. Indoors I read sci fi and fantasy as well as mysteries, watch hockey (Go Wild!), and draw. I also play computer games. We have LAN parties a few times a year and usually play different first person shooters or strategy games. I also like to brew beer. It's something my Dad started doing a while back and turned out to be fun on both sides of the process.
  10. This thread is vastly diffent from the way it began but I'll make a comment or two as well... I'm in agrement with Jerry here. The level at which the movements are the same is very basic. The differences are what make the style/technique. A foil is vastly different from the way one would effectively use a broad sword. To use the foil as a broad sword is to invite getting cut to peices! Stick 'em with the pointy end like it was intended, it works better that way LOL! I also did a bit of SCA back before I started TKD. Mainly I fought with a single "broadsword" and heater (ie style of shield). Broadsword is in quotes there because it was the typical rattan sword and metal hand guard one sees in the SCA and not a real/live or metal practice blade. Man, was it fun though. There is nothing like the sound of slamming that blade into someones helm or the ringing in your ears whem someone does it to you. The armor is very heavy though and takes a bit of getting used to and there where times when you just didn't think you could lift that sheild up to save your life. Lets see: sheild about 5-10 lbs of wood and metal rim, helm 16 gauge steel about 10 lbs; breast and back plate, spalders, vambraces, gorge', leg protection... 30-40 lbs if plastic (SCA uses heat moldable plastic sometimes, cheaper and lighter) or around 70 lbs for steel (REALLY pricey!). 3-4 lbs for a sword (real ones ranged from 2-7 lbs if they were meant to be used, the idea of a 20lb sword is wrong. Armming swords meant for display or ceremonial guards were that heavy but not meant to be used). Add that to the weight of a set of greaves and padding and you now just about weigh as much as a tank LOL!
  11. Not sure on the actual breakdowns of the weight classes. I'd look at the USTU webpage. There's probably something there.
  12. I like grunge, metal, hard rock, classic rock, techno, industrial, EBM synth pop (sorta like techno and industrial), classical, blues, old school jazz but not smooth jazz. Favorite bands are: Jimi Hendrix, Stone Temple Pilots, VNV nation, Nirvanna, Pearl Jam, Metallica there are lots of other cool bands out there but not enough time to write them all down
  13. If I train in the basement I'll wear the pants. They're just really comfortable. If I practice in the backyard though I'll wear sweats or shorts. I dont like wearing the uniform on the way to and from class though. Seems like too much chance of getting something on the uniform.
  14. Green Dragon just became my new best friend! Excellent post.
  15. Doesn't cauliflower ear develop under ear protection too? There are alot of colligate westlers here at the Uof M that have it despite the ear protection. Just a question.
  16. I'd say aikido. Tai chi chuan is difficult to find (at least in my area) as a "martial" art. Stay away from arts that may put alot of stress in knees and other joints. what about Doberman-do? You know, the art of walking your pet doberman. A dog that size shold keep everyone at bay!
  17. I like elbow strikes. Doing them, not receiving them lol I also like sweeps. They're just fun to do.
  18. Punches are huge yes but I always have that nagging fear of getting a serious finger in the eye. That scares the b-jesus outta me.
  19. Well, it worked, but man he got pummeled for a long time before he tried that! All I can say is ouch! For both of them!
  20. Happy B-day! Oh man, get off the sidewalks everyone, she'll be driving soon!
  21. We non MT, KB, and boxing people come in here too Ghost. Your message will be heard Anyway, to say that boxing would not be effective is some what riddiculous. These guys train hard. Crazy hard. They hit quickly and with power, take tons of punishment, and always come back for more. So they dont train kicks. Big deal. You're still going to have to kick him very hard in the right spot, which we all know is sometimes easier said than done. So they wear gloves. We've all hit things bare knuckle without breaking our hands. Pretty sure they can too. They only downside could be their ground game but honestly, is your (collective your, not any individual) ground game good enough to get in past that fury of punches? The thing about this site that bothers me the most is people trashing other styles in favor of a certain 1-3 styles that are quite popular now. Give it a rest! At the end of the day if you enjoy what you're doing, if it makes you stronger and more capable does it matter what others think? I'll get off my soapbox now.
  22. If I'm not mistaken you usually have to compete at State first. The winners in the different weight classes then go on to nationals.
  23. Chariots of Fire is a classsic. Field of dreams is good too. What about Rocky? Boxing is a sport.
  24. I usually do them a few weeks early but got lazy this year and did them over this last weekend.
