The Hidden Danger of Kata
El Guerrero Loco replied to Bon's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm pretty young and guess what? Kata isn't exactly my fav aspect of my training. Both sides have made good points but i tend to lean tot he dark side(bon). But i am blinded by the rash arrogance of youth I juss wanna be a great fighter man...watever will get me there i suppose.... -
I would use Panantukan for punching(Filipino boxing type style but uses things other than hands) I would use Pananjakman and Sikaran for kicking(both Filipino kicking styles) Dumog(filipino grappling) and BJJ for grappling. Arnis for weapons. Tai Chi for energy stuff.

favorite kick
El Guerrero Loco replied to Joecooke007's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I think for actual fighting, the back leg roundhouse is best. But for show i like a combo of 360 roundhouse into a tornado kick, but da butterfly kick is pretty cool(and pretty useless, i dun actually do wushu or tkd but i can do some fancy kicks from seeing them) -
Thinking about TKD
El Guerrero Loco replied to van_damme's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I think its ignorant for anyone to say TKD sux. It does depend on the person but I do think that style does play a part. But not whether you win or not, it merely determines the way you fight. Think about it, physically legs are supposed to be three times stronger than arms, they are also longer...come on ppl. And about the sport thing...think fer a minute, if one can use kicks to devastating effect against other highly skilled "foot fighters" why in the name of all thats still good, would you not be able to do it against an untrained "thug"????? Plus, TKD doesn't put a huge emphasis on punches but that doesn't mean they don't have them. I personally do Wado-Ryu but I learn stuff from other styles to attain a higher degree of skill(and hopefully have some knowledge of how other styles work so that i can defend against them) My brother, my sensei and I went to a shotokan tournament. We wiped the floor witht hem in our different divisions, all coming in first. Heck, no one was even able to hit me. But that doesn't mean shotokan sux, or that Wado-Ryu is better. I've seen some amazing shotokan figthers and tkd figthers. Come on ppl. Use ur heads. -
Hey, I'd like to know the stuff one learns in ninjitsu. Wat kind of techniques and training methods do they use? And is it a good and practical fighting style? Can it compete with arts like Muay thai and BJJ?

Yeah thx guys, i know wat it is, i've used it before and never knew its name. Lol another guy in my class used it on me but I blocked it with the double block like at the start of Pinan Sandan

"Uncommon" Martial Arts
El Guerrero Loco replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I know a couple... There is a Filipino MA called Dumog/Buno. Its a grappling style: Dumog is a general term used to describe the Filipino art of wrestling and grappling. There are two main forms of dumog. Agaw patid Buno, is the more commonly known form of dumog. It consists of standup grappling and wrestling, utilising off-balancing techniques, throws, and neck turning to force an opponent to the ground. Traditionally opponents would engage by holding a belt or encircling each other's waist and attempt to throw and unbalance each other. Victory was declared when the opponent's shoulders squarely touched the ground. Musang Dumog is a ground fighting art, utilising locks, chokes and strikes to submit opponents on the ground. Both systems can be combined or learnt independently. The origins of both these styles is rather sketchy, however they are still relatively abundant in the northernmost islands of the Phillippines. Another is a style called Panantukan...which is Filipino boxing, however they don't only use their firsts. They incorperate elbows, fists, forearms and i think head. They however don't only attack the normal targets of body and head. They also do something known as joint destruction, they attack joints and other areas to disable opponents. Another Filipino art is called Yaw-Yan: Yaw-Yan is a Filipino martial art developed by Grandmaster Napoleon Fernandez. The art resembles Muay Thai in a sense, but also utilises kicks which are found in Tae Kwon do. However, the origin is more often than not Filipino. The word Yaw-Yan was derived from the two last syllables of "Sayaw ng Kamatayan" meaning "Dance of Death". It uses roundhouse kicks which curve downwards (even from head level), which result in tremendous power when hip torque is applied. The punches include many punches found in western boxing, such as the uppercut, hook, swing and right cross, but also include back hands, bolo punches and corkscrew punches. It differs from the other empty-hand styles found in the Phillipines because it is often trained with gloves on, to allow full contact between sparring partners. Because of this, it doesn't employ the variety of limb destructions found in the other arts. Another filipino art is kino-mutay Kino-mutay is the Filipino art of biting, eye gouging and pinching. In itself, it is not a primary fighting style but employs techniques which can be readily grafted onto any other Filipino empty hands or weapons system (or any other martial art for that matter). There is little evidence that this art existed as a traditional fighting form and it is probable that its development is quite recent. Another filipino style is called Kuntaw Kuntaw is one of the oldest fighting systems in the Philippines. It is reportedly from the Sulu archipelago but has since worked its way North to other islands. It is a fighting system that utilises all the natural weapons of the body, such as hands, elbows, knees and feet. The hands are used for parrying, striking and grappling while the legs are used for lowline kicks and off-balancing sweeps and takedowns. The techniques all focus on evading and redirecting the energy of attacks, a common principle in many Chinese styles (which may have influenced Kuntaw somewhat). It must be noted that it is not strictly and empty hand system, and like in many Filipino martial arts, Kuntaw also utilises weaponry that can be substituted for any empty hand techniques it employs. Although this art was traditionally taught very secretly, today it is taught publicly throughout the Philippines and the rest of the world. Hey did I mention I'm Filipino! -
Hey can anyone tell me what the mountain punch is? thx

Brown Belt-Wado Ryu Karate Tho belts aren't the all in MA. My sensei beat a black belt when he was an orange belt. Its about skills my martial brethren. Peace and respect to all, without it we are all just violent thugs.

The Martial Arts
El Guerrero Loco replied to Martial_Artist's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
So karate is useless eh? Its too slow and indirect? I've kicked up to the face of many people even ppl way bigger than me before they even noticed i was kicking. I admit some of the stuff we learn is not "practical" but that certainly doesn't mean that the rest isn't. So according to you, i'd be wasting my time giving you a slide up side kick to the knee huh? I think not. What do u do...no wait lemme guess, JKD. I could be wrong but i have encountered many with a similar attitude. If Karate was useless then why have so many used it effectivly? Why do many Karateka do so well in K-1. Certainly they should be absolutley useless against ppl who's sole purpose if fighting like thai boxers(i love muay thai by the way). But the're not. Surely Karate would be useless in a real fight, i know some young karateka, one is in grade 6(very small and skinny), he has no trouble fighting bigger grd. 8s..and another who was in grade 6, he also had no toruble with grd 8s. I presonally do martial arts for the sole purpose of becoming a more powerful fighter and i DO disagreee with doing it for most other reasons. How you would say our techniques are useless when many of them are extremely similar to JKD techniques. JKD is a totally fight oriented art, so because the techniques are similar, JKD must be useless too. Karate is useless eh? The only thing that is useless are scumbags like you and no i don't care about you opinion @$$hole!!! BTW, I do Karate, but also learn many other arts through other sources ie. books, internet, videos etc. and i do work to make my style more practical, so in truth i'm not really a true karateka but instead a free-style fighter(yes and i use mostly JKD principals and muay thai style fighting) but even so, try goign to Japan and saying karate is useless to one of the kyokoshin karate students...if ur still standing after 30 seconds maybe i'll show you some respect Usted pelaso de MIERDA!!! -
That guilty call was a complete load of F-ing bull...He friggin swung for u...destroy him, je tried to hurt u, F him up, ferget reasonable force, he wasn't using reasonable force was he? The "law" needs to get a friggin life, as does ppl who would criticize someone who defended themselves, against a drunk or not. Now if he was on the ground and you kept on stomping him...that's another story, but you didn't. Someone posted earlier and said something like "its like pulling a shotgun on someone who pulled a knife on you" well i say they deserve it. A knife is a deadly weapon, they prolly have the intent to kill you(whether under the influence or not) BLAST 'EM! How many of you have had ppl try to kill you with a knife? As much as one may rebuke another for feeling the need to ensure their surival from the safety of their home computer....nevermind. Hey no offense to whoever said that, i juss think if someone wants to fight me, fine. If he's way more powerful...then groin shot, knee cap shots, eye gouges are they way its prolly gonna go But if they pull a deadly weapon on me....their done...(providing i can defeat them) lol, we; there's my 2 cents
-
Both are essential, I'm primarily a striker but oddly enough feel more comfortable to go to the ground. Its juss that even being a good striker, street fighters still have a chance, specially the experienced ones...but on the ground...they're done. And I', kinda small so i'm at a disadvantage, i can kick pretty high regularily but sometimes when i get into a sticky situation i freeze up somewhat and would only do body level kicks and punches, and if my opponent is too big....u understand. I had felt kinda upset at my lack of confidence in my striking. Then I learned some grappling from various sources and currently train wit my brother to improve it and stuff. So now that i think of it...its not so scary to get into a confrontation...TAKE 'EM TO THE GROUND! lol. I not a *****, i'm like the toughest guy in my karate class, but i'd love do do BJJ, soon i hope. Anyone know any good sites to learn techniques?
-
Really ppl, how many of u could get out of a headlock with a knife to your throat??? But....if you could, why would anyone merely disarm them? What r u? The Power Rangers? Take his knife, turn it sideways and shove it straight up his rooty poo candy @$$. Nuff said

The victim of a mcdojo speaks out
El Guerrero Loco replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have about 5 yrs of experience and am still a purple belt In my dojo, we are mostly strikers, and att his time we're working towards our brown belts. the last class before tonight's one, we did grappling and stuff for like the whole class. Nice little change in pace. I think its important to be abel to strike and grapple. I dunno bout you ppl but I've never been knocked out, i've been close when my sensei kicked my between the eyes, but i didn't go out and although i was blind fer a lil bit I stood and put my guard up...maybe I'm a fool but, I think we as martial artists deserve more respect for the hard training we do. DON'T EVER LET ANYONE PUSH YOU AROUND!!!! well you don't have to go crazy, be resonable...but if need be...ANNIHALATE 'EM! _________________ "A chill runs through you spine and crawls into your brain, the freezing touch of fear... Dirty StreetFighting
El Guerrero Loco replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't agree with the point abotut he good fighter being as good or better than a black belt. Sure he can take a punch, but the black belt should be able too as well. Besides if he's any good he shouldn't have to take a punch. Another thing, this so-called good streetfighter can fight other street fighters. Try fighting someone trained to fight. Sure sparring has rulez, but we keep that in mind, and what if he do vale tudo er somefin like dat? Plus, we have a wide variety of techniques and for some, styles to choose from and can do so in a split second. My dad is a dirty street figther person, never lost a figth, I guess I have his genes. I agree with the other points. Street fighters have some chance if any against a good striker because naturally they can punch. But what about a grappler? What possible chance would they have on the ground? Do they know how to get out of an arm bar? What about a reverse naked choke? I doubt it. Plus our conditioning and speed should be far greater than theirs and soemtimes strength, for those of us that incorperate weight training. SSSOOOO....street fighters can shove it, arrogant, honourless, no good mutha...ya know da rest. If one can break cement/boards/bricks...imagine what one could do to another person's friggin ball sack. BOOYAH! All opposed to knife hand throat stikes say I. *silence* thought so.
