Hi. I'm not sure what that particular stance that is but you've spelt it almost like another stance, kamae. Kamae is not a fighting stance, its used for mental preperation and because of that I've not seen mawashi geri performed from it. If you are refering to kamae, its possible but its not all that practical. I would suggest trying it from a kumite stance as see if it feels better and more natural.

I use the Ashi-bari mostly to put them off balance and if im lucky they will go straight down either way it sets them up for fast counters. Generally I use tai-sabaki then sweep the back of the heel with my instep but I know others prefer to use the sole of the foot. In self defense I probably wouldnt use this technique as I prefer to get in close using hand techniques and execute a body drop, hoc throw or hip throw depending on the leg position of the attacker.

I thought it was spot on. Did he win?

I restarted after a long layoff. I double graded some but not all. I think it just depends on how hard you retrain, how quick it comes back to you and how you adjust to any changes that may have taken place since you left. Don't be discouraged... for example, I double graded the 1st two gradings (so from 10th to 6th) then on the 3rd grading attained 5th Kyu then one Kyu again to 4th then double graded again to 2nd kyu. Your sensei will know whats best and when... Keep at it and good luck.....

BJJ in a real fight
ff100 replied to AceKing's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I agree with the others in that multiple attackers against one is a bad but like the others attack the biggest 1st. If your lucky and hes down try to position yourself so that one of the other attackers is in front of the the other. If you see the big fella getting up attack him again. If at chance presents itself get the hell out of dodge. -
Thank you

In Your Opinion, What is the Most Superior Weapon?
ff100 replied to TigerCrane's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I agree with Daisy... I also love the Bo and in the right environment is unbeatable so holding that in my hands with a Katana (for midrange) and Chucks housed in my obi. -

Apparently a quote from Chojun Miyagi..... He was speaking to a student who asked about gaining a black belt. Miyagi replied, "If you're good enough, you don't need a black belt and if you aren't good enough then you shouldn't have one!" I've heard he was not a fan of the belt system but don't quote me that he really said this...

I wonder if anyone rests the day before the grading like I do?

Very interesting. Another sensai that is applying the same kata to both weapons and hands. Maybe weapons are real extensions of the hands as I heard said before... Thanks for the information.

I came across this when looking at another link from another post and thought you might like to see it I wonder which 8 kata he is referring to, any ideas? For the record I personally dont go along with his theory but maybe theres truth in it somewhere!

I've trained in Goju & Kykoushin and both dojos let me and their other students know on the day of grading whether they had passed or not. This may be down to the format e.g spread across multiple days / weeks for all the different kyus / dans but after reading the threads it seems that some take some time before letting their students know the result. I was wondering if anyone knows the reasoning behind this as I believe the panel knows who passed and who has not? Thanks in advance

Sounds like everyone at your dojo has a good sense of humor. Excellent.

I'm interested in what your Sensei said to you about the incident?

Let us know how you get on. Good luck

Each to their own however I find that too many patches spoil a gi. I think that a governing body and dojo/style is enough.
