  1. if i saw a fight that looked incredibly 1 sided, and i thought i had the ability to break it up, 1 big against one small, or 2 on 1 i would try to. if i thoguht that i wouldnt be able to make a difference, i would probably leave it alone and contact the authorities.
  2. yeh, also the copy con filename.text it stands for console, so basically in dos when you use the copy con command it will copy what ever is type in to the console (dos box) in to the file name specified. i think the f6 button stopped the imput
  3. for the life of me i cant work out why i spelt stretch streach. i remember looking at it thinking it didnt look right, but it look more correct than streech ahaha
  4. ill admit you do hear about a lot of people that are saved by someone that took a cpr course, and there are a lot of kids that will stop drop and roll in a fire. but my guess is that there are a lot more incidents where someone that did a cpr course tried but failed because they did something wrong. you say this is my opinion, which it may be, but the fact remains that a 2 hour self defence course isnt going to be as effective as if the person that did said course continually practiced it. and thats fact, and it is the same in anything. someone that continually practices will be better than someone that doesnt, thats my point.
  5. if all that fails go down to the library and get out some books that will assist you with training on your own. sure its not great, but its better than nothing.
  6. not quite, accuracy is important to the huys holding the board. nothing worse than getting your finger jammed between a board and a heel.
  7. in my school (not an instructor) the only time the junior sylabus differs from the adult sylabus is when going for black belt. juniors have a kind of "probationary" black belt and have to retest when they turn 16. come to think of it, i dont even know if the sylabus is different. maybe its the same and they have to do it twice.
  8. also remember, if you dont break the board, its gonna hurt a hell of a lot more than if you do break it.
  9. high kicking is about flexability. the key is to streach. and when you have streached enough, streach some more. it will come eventually. i dont think its anything to worry about
  10. my bb test for tkd involved all the basics, a pile of breaking techniques, the patterns and then a whole pile of sparring, 1 on 1, 2 on 1 and 3 on 1 not sure about the exact sylabus of the club im at now but it would be on the website.
  11. im not saying that everyone should find the time to do martial arts for there own safety. my point is that doing a crash course in anything isnt really going to make you any good at it, and especially in something like self defence, its going to give people some false confidence.
  12. i dont actually have kids, so its hard for me to see how you would feel, but if someone spoke like that to my (future) kids without decent, i would tell them where to go, regardless of where i am, and if it was at the dojo, i wouldnt care what grade they are either.
  13. for alot of people, martial arts isnt about training to fight. its fitness and fun rather than self defence. my guess is that the idea of a confrontation frightens him and he just froze up. could happen to anyone regardless of their grade.
  14. i would only get involved if there was violence involved. if they are just yelling then dont worry about it. here is a question. there is alot of people saying that they would get involved if the guy was hitting the girl. would you still get involved if the chick was hitting the guy? what if the chick was bigger than the guy? it does happen, it just doesnt get the publicity that violence against women gets.
  15. seminars rule. i have only been able to go to 1 so far but i hope to go to a lot more.
  16. ok, karate: kihon heain sho, ni, san and yon itf tkd: Kicho 1 (same as kihon) Chon Ji Dan Gun Do San Won Hyo Yul Gok Joon Gun Toi Gye Hwa Rang Choong Moo Gae Baek WTF TKD Kibon (same as kihon) Taeguek 1 - 8 Koryo
  17. every move has its use, some people just might not see it.
  18. some good points there steve. but i would still say that regardless of the system, a couple of hours worth of seminar self defence is not going to be enuf for people to have enough skills to help them. i took a 4 hour seminar that had self defence, sticks and some BJJ in it, and i wouldnt even remember half the stuff we were taught, and im an Martial artist of 15 years.
  19. 1.5 hour classes are the perfect length, long enough to get stuff done, but not so long as to drag also, for senior belts working with junior belts also helps them from an instructional point of view.
  20. nothing to be ashamed of, i rekon most people here would be fans. and many would own the dvds, i know i do. in fact, i would say that KK would be one of the No 1 reasons that people that grew up in the 80s would have taken up MA in the first place. there is no MA problem that cant be solved with a KK quote.
  21. well done!
  22. jumping, or flying, kicks would have their usage, they just probably wouldnt occur as often. example, someone is throw rocks, or something at you from accross a ditch, or whatever, there is no retreat and no side exit available. so, you run, perform a jumping kick over the ditch. ok, so its a pretty crap example, but there is going to be some situations that *could* occur that a jump kick would be used. if there wasnt, they never would have entered in to a traditional sylabus for any art.
  23. i think bunkai is something that you really do have to work out for yourself. if you are shown set bunkai for each kata, all you are really learning is some self defence techniques. its fine for people that are just starting with bunkai, but as you move up through the grades let them figure them out themselves rather than telling them what to do. throw thema hint if they are stuck but dont give them theanswer. a month ago we were told to work on our bunkai for the next grading. while some of the other students had been shown some, i hadnt been. i worked out quite a few different ones, decided that some worked, some didnt. turns out that the ones i worked out for myself are similar, but not the same, as what the others were shown (for some of them). if you can show your own bunkai, you are on your way to understanding kata.
