  1. I practiced shotokan for 3 years until I was 16 and old enough for kyokushin. Still currently doing it, brown belt. it's a very physical style as i'm sure you've heard..and I hated point sparring. But check this video out..one word: awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XT8D2MOBl5s&search=Kyokushin
  2. Only if you want to drown. I would advise not diving in..but first starting doggy paddle, then get to the more complicated strokes and dives. (Hope you can see how that correlates to fighting and MA)
  3. My friend was in a streetfight where his opponent did the blast thing (most do), he sidekicked hard into the solar plexus. the guy fell. Good if you can do it right, because of the range your legs have over your arms, bad if you do it wrong because you'll lose balance, probably fall, then basically become someone's punching bag.
  4. My bully philosphy is, stand up to them. You don't do you, or him any good if you let them bully you. They'll think they can go unchallenged their whole lives and maybe one day end up killing an innocent person, or hurting someone seriously when they get older, when you could've stopped it by standing up to them all those years ago. If a little suspension is what happens to you both, so be it, better that than the above IMO. I just transferred to a new highschool last year due to military reasons, and the typical new kid gets picked on. Well, I got pushed around for about 3 days straight until I decided to act. The guy went to push me as he always did, instead of taking it and walking away, I sidestepped, and roundhouse kicked him in the solar plexis. He was hunched over for a few minutes, while I demonstrated that I could easily snap kick him in the face if I needed to. I then I told him that if he would continue his rash and inhumane actions to fellow people, I'd have to intervene and next time I wouldn't hold back. I know what you're saying...what if he ganged up on me or something. Well, luckily he seemed to be the "alpha" bully, if you would. His friends were bullies but he was the strongest (laughable). They all pretty much abandoned him after that and stopped picking on people, and those who didn't abandon him right away did so after he got his head straight and cussed them out for not helping. Now, by doing just that I probably changed his life, as well as many others who thanked me because they were harrassed by him and his minions also.
  5. If faced with an attacker that will probably kill you, i'd low-roundhouse to the knee. I'd rather get sued than die.
  6. I saw something like that on the news..except backwards. a guy that was defending himself beat this one guy that was trying to rob him with a toy gun, then a karate or tkd guy came up and beat him..because he thought he was beating a helpless man. pretty ironic.
  7. I live in Texas..a town near Austin
  8. I have this vibrational feeling also at times when I focus on feeling it. When i'm i'm bed trying to go to sleep it gives me a falling feeling. Odd, but i'm glad to know i'm not the only one experiencing it.
  9. A wise man once said, hiding your strengths will hide your weakness..and vice-versa (showing strength, showing weakness), that story was a good example of this wise mans tale.
  10. I'm pretty sure it was a taoist concept built on the aspect of a mountain. While sun is shining on one side, darkness (shadow) befalls the other. originally it had no dots, then it evolved.
  11. I live in Texas, thanks I didn't know a lot of that. It's good to know that deadly force is acceptable under those conditions. Why do I say that? Just on the news (and this happened in another state) I read about a "thug" attacking a man, the man pulled a knife and killed the "thug", and "thug's" parents sued the man for...let's just say ..a lot. Justice? Not from my perspective. IMHO: If you're going to attack someone, and you end up dead, that's your fault.
  12. Sue happy indeed. A fight broke out between me and another student today (I'm in highschool)..they all think they have something to prove.. anyway, as the croud instigated, he threw wild punches which I blocked easily until he got tired and walked off. Could've dropped him easily..saw at least 12 opportunities. Point is..the teachers and staff couldn't get involved because ...we could sue them for touching us. Where's the justice in that? They'd rather let another guy possibly put me into a coma or worse...then get sued. as you said, sue happy indeed.
  13. Very nice^ I've been in a full contact fight..train in kyokushin, but as anyone who's in a real fight knows, there are no fights that aren't full contact. So, to put it short, after blocking a lot of his jabs, I roundhouse kicked the guy in the joint where his thigh and knee connect (glad I didn't tear his ligament), he fell fast and hard. Fight over.

  15. Well done. I've been in a situation similar to that myself, a guy and his friends picked a fight with my friend, they hit him, I hit them, they stopped. Some people will fight, but not if they are retaliated.
  16. well written, and very influencial.
  17. I don't know about you guys but I started Martial Arts for two reasons: 1. Having something to do when I come home from school instead of watch T.V. 2. My philsophy on fighting is, "It's better to know how to fight, and not need to, then need to and not know how." Which is used in various other topics..like having a gun and not needing it, then needing it and not have it, etc.
  18. and I can't edit that but I meant: "The more you dislike me, the more I like you."
  19. Something like this happened to me, accept it went a very different way: I'm in highschool..a freshmen, and another girl that I didn't know was always hitting me and doing obscene things like spitting water on me. I told my dad, he just said stop being a wuss. (figures) So I decided to try a little reverse psycology, everytime she did something mean, and said she didn't like me, I just said "The more dislike me, the more I like you." What do you know, she's my girlfriend now. P.S. Very nice story, correlates to my signature in a way.
  20. Very well written. I like the emphasis on "life is not a match in the ring."
  21. Well written, and very interesting considering i've been attacked by a dog also. Here's what happened: I was with two of my friends, we were walking to 7/11 when out of no where this huge Rottweiler came walking in the middle of the road out of the side houses, it stopped like a Deer would and looked at us for a second, I told my friends to stay calm but they took off running, which triggered the dog to run after them..but instead it came at me because I didn't run, i'm used to being under a lot of pressure at tournaments and stuff. It jumped for my neck, I swiftly side stepped and grabbed it by the throat with one hand, while pinning it to the ground by the other. We found its owner a few minutes later.
  22. I'm not in Taekwondo, but I still close and open the refridgerator with kicks
