I saw it, it left me disappointed, not for Matt Hughes sake, but it was pretty much domination. If you re-watch it you can tell he knows he's going to lose, hugging people around him like he's going to war or something..

Most of the girls in our dojo can handle their own. They have the decision if they want to spar with a guy or pair up with fellow women. I've sparred a few, depends on the person, but a lot can't be taken lightly or else you'll end up getting messed up.

very inspirational, excellent article, best i've read so far

They're both pretty good, but i'd have to go with Pride because UFC gets old to me, everyone trains in Muay Thai and Jujitsu mostly, also boxing. pride has more variety for me

Funny stuff! Most that's happened at our Dojo is someone missing the occasional front kick and hitting someone in the groin

Kyokushinkai Karate - Kyokushinkai is Japanese for "the society for the ultimate truth." Founded by Masutasu Oyama We do intense training, mountain training, waterfall training, also are advised to run on our own and build stamina. Our training focuses a lot on Kumite, we do Kata also. Fights are full-contact knockdown, only body punching, no grabbing, kicking to the head is allowed. Kyokushin is popularized by the multi-man kumite, which today few people have completed, which puts you up against a multitude of people to knockdown, without rest. We also do some tameshiwari (board, tile or brick breaking). Our Dojo Kun: We will train our hearts and bodies for a firm, unshaking spirit. We will pursue the true meaning of the Martial Way, so that in time our senses may be alert. With true vigor, we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self-denial. We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors, and refrain from violence. We will follow our religious principles, and never forget the true virtue of humility. We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other desires. All our lives, through the discipline of karate, we will seek to fulfill the true meaning of the Kyokushin Way. -------------------------------------------------------------- Some Kyokushin Vids: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Woe5AQjBOdE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrM-bK-vM1c

In response to the original poster: I'm in highschool now, Sophomore, I live in a pretty rough neighborhood. There's at least 2 minimum fights a day because of the arrogance of people. Sad to say, Authorities don't even take action. The teachers can't stop it because the school won't allow them in case they get hit on accident they could sue. So it takes like 10 minutes to call the cops, which by that time the fight is usually over. I've been in a few fights, and I gotta say my Maritial Arts training has really saved me. Just a tip, but If you're ever in a school fight (or any fight) with an unexperienced fighter, keep your arms up because theyusually go with a flurry of haymakers which can take anyone out if they aren't careful. (Low kicks work for me)

If I have a chance to view my opponent, i'll do what Jiffy does and observe, if I don't, Meditate and go over my techniques, combos, etc in my head.

Tendon Gliding sounds very cool, i'm glad you found a style that you love so much.

My dad was in Kyokushin since I was 5, I wanted to join but couldn't because it was full contact and he wouldn't sign permission..so I started Shotokan at age 8 until I turned 16, one could say I was very committed.

Just for validification, Jin Kazama's style is in fact, Kyokushin Karate. I know this from a lot of facts..his moves, roll kick, kata, osu. Also it's on wikipedia. -

I'm pretty sure their style was Judo, judging by the way they were throwing in the beginning of class...although the english version dubbed it as bushido style. and that big guy was Nathan Jones, good fight. My favorites are: Yuen Biao V.S. thatoneguy - The Prodigal Son Tony Jaa v.s. Copeira stylist - The Protector All of the fights in Ong-Bak Bruce Lee v.s. Chuck Norris - Way of the Dragon -

hypothetical weapons tournament, what would you use?
Ace2021 replied to alsey's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Even though i'm proficient with a Bo, i'd have to say, if my life depended on it, a shield and shortsword. Kind of like someone said with the metal pole and knife, i'd use the shield to be hit, then get in close with the shortsword and do some damage. -

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but i'll say what I have to, please comment. While in class today, a 5th Kyu told me he was beaten up in a fight yesterday, I asked him what happened, he said he just forgot all of his training and the fear got to him. Me being a 2nd Kyu and in a few fights, I didn't know how he did that. In a fight I can always remember my training and take control, why couldn't he? He only told me because we're friends and he didn't want to be embarassed in front of the dojo. Do you guys think it was because i'm a higher rank? Is there a method to remember your training? I'm in Kyokushin and if anyone else is you know training can be tough and rigorous..I don't see how he'd forget his training. I meditate frequently, I don't think he does, could that be it?? Just looking for answers/opinons.

As soon as they showed the people punching and the numbers for it, I knew it was stupid. It might be a good show and all, but I couldn't take most of the data seriously. Of course a Boxing guy that has at least 100lbs more than the Kung Fu guy is going to hit harder, least they could've done was got a lightweight/featherweight to hit it, then compare. And the karate guy should've used a traditional karate punch..I don't even know what to call what he did.
