  1. Someone said Machida trains in Blackhouse Gym, which is an MMA gym, true. But to say his style is not karate anymore is not true. Maybe not his whole style, but if you watch him fight, his stand-up is very smart and methodical, and the karate element can be clearly seen.
  2. Unfortunately i've been busy with school and I haven't had time to post my training. I've been going to the gym a lot with my training partner who is an MMA enthusiast. Been working on standup a lot. Anyways, just been sparring, lifting weights, running, bench press. Generally staying fit and in shape.
  3. Yeah, I used to have this problem. Just build up the inside leg muscles, thighs, etc. As Bushido pointed out, plyometeric leg exercises would really help. Anything that builds explosiveness.
  4. The way I see it: Clarity of the mind will make your reflexes faster. How? You won't be affected negatively by emotion, thoughs, etc. Your fighting moves that you train in to make your muscles do on reflex, won't be questioned by the normal human instinct of "Swing for the fences".
  5. If you were still alive that is. I would rather die defending myself than die because i had the delusion i'd sue the other person after it was over?
  6. If i wanted to just sue someone that attacked me, instead of successfully defending myself, I wouldn't be taking Martial Arts.
  7. I've been in two highschool fights, currently a junior, and I know whenever I kick or shoot on a guy and take him to the ground, people think I had to cheat....but I guess they don't realize is that due to my training, Leg kicking and shooting have became natural reflexes. I'm pretty sure this is what a Martial Artist wants to achieve. It may look like cheating to others, but to me..2nd nature.
  8. I'd mix.. Jeet Kune Do T'aekkyŏn Judo ===== I'd call it.. Jeet T'ae Do
  9. I hope GSP wins. the Cro Cop v.s. Kongo fight should be interesting, Kongo is huge, and they're both good strikers.
  10. I can't see many Muay Thai based fighters (Anderson Silva, etc) wearing a Gi...nor can I see Chuck Liddell or Matt Hughes. As said before, not all Martial Arts came from gi-wearing practitioners. The point i'm trying to make is, I doubt the fighters would comply with that request.
  11. Judo was pretty nice, in the end though they used Jason because he's faster, more agile, and has more ground experience (which makes sense)..I still would have loved to see the big guy get thrown around .
  12. It could be really good, or really bad..
  13. Yeah it was Kyokushin, pretty good episode, Savate should be interesting.
  14. This guy summed it up for me.
  15. Good vids, love Chuck's "unorthodox" technique.
  16. I usually keep it in part of a combination also, usually jab jab cross, back leg roundhouse kick to the thigh, as not to telegraph as much. It's one of my favorite combinations. Kicking with the lead leg in a roundhouse is ok, but it usually won't buckle your opponents leg, which is what I aim for. Lower the mobility substantially, and the rest of the fight is usually easy from there.
  17. Thats fine, but unless your Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, or fighting under the same conditions they do, then him being able to stomach kick people in a ring doesnt do a great deal to prove the effectiveness of body kicks for self defense purposes. Well my point was in response to the OP, body kicks CAN BE effective.. now if you're just someone trained like me, a hard sidekick to the solar plexus can make all the difference, all you have to do is land it. I guess what i'm trying to say is, depending on your skill level and proficiency in the strike, anything can be effective.
  18. I should have been more clear but, I meant in the Fight Tony Jaa had with the Burmese Boxer who injected himself with stuff. I knew Tony Jaa was using Muay Boran.
  19. I voted "Yes" If you've ever seen Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic roundhouse someone in the stomach, you'd know..
  20. Same here, saw the Muay Thai and Escrima Eps. Can't wait for Karate Friday, my only concern is which style of Karate they will study. Karate isn't something you can generalize, same with Kung-Fu. Karate: Shotokan, Kyokushin, Goju-Ryu, etc.
  21. MMA is the fasted growing combat sport in the world. I can see how you can relate that to Robot fighting, and then I can't. Robot fighting was never as popular, with pay-per-view's and all.
  22. In response to the original poster: Yes Christians should do Martial arts, someone intent on hurting you won't care if you're Christian or Atheist. (Unless they're that sadistic)
