  1. Yes, but America really doesn't understand the importance of beer, since theirs is inherently foul, watered down, tasteless stuff. Besides, ice hockey's more fun to watch than baseball, although rugby beats them both.
  2. > Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there. They do this by masking carbon dioxide, which attracts parasitical insects. > Dentists have recommended that a toothbrush be kept at least 6 feet away from a toilet to avoid airborne particles resulting from the flush. The Victorians used to use urine instead of toothpaste, and apparently it was reasonably effective. > Donkeys kill more people annually than plane crashes. More people ride donkeys than planes. > You burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television. People often move in their sleep, and engage in a lot of brain activity which, despite many people's beliefs, does burn off energy. In front of the tv people don't seem to move much, or think. > The first product to have a bar code was Wrigley's gum. The first chewing gum was made from either rubber tree sap or whale fat. > The king of hearts is the only king without a mustache There is also only one one-eyed king, but two one-eyed jacks. > Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning. But coffee tastes so much better. > Most dust particles in your house are made from dead skin. Most dust particles anywhere are made from dead organic matter, since that's what dust usually is except for industrial or construction dust. Since your body is also entirely covered with dead skin, surely dust can't be particularly harmful? > The first owner of the Marlboro Company died of lung cancer. Poetic justice. > Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts. The woman who invented the Barbie doll did so because her daughter had only 'baby' dolls to play with. She also suffered breast cancer and developed a range of false breast replacements called 'nearly there'. > All US Presidents have worn glasses. Some just didn't like being seen wearing them in public. Having blue eyes increases popularity by seven points in most elections in the western world. > Pearls melt in vinegar. So do silicon chips, unless specially treated. > The three most valuable brand names on earth: Marlboro, Coca Cola, and Budweiser, in that order. Budweiser? Who could stand to drink that stuff willingly? Eight litres of coca cola within several hours is usually fatal. > It is possible to lead a cow upstairs...but not downstairs. Same with wild horses. > A duck's quack doesn't echo and no one knows why. The most recent theory is that its to do with inteference patterns, the sound cancelling itself out. Why this should be though no one quite knows, and no one has yet done any real research into the area. > The reason firehouses have circular stairways is from the days when the engines were pulled by horses. The horses were stabled on the ground floor and figured out how to walk up straight staircases. Getting them down afterwards was extremely difficult.
  3. Sounds like it was hardly your fault, certainly if he knew how to break-fall. If it was his first class I could understand your guilt, but if he had performed breakfalls in the past then he should have been safe. I know someone who stepped off a kerb and broke their foot, these things happen. I've never actually injured someone in class, or been injured, more than minor bruising, but in one TKD class I went to a girl in her first lesson dislocated her knee, mainly because the instructor was trying to get her to do twisting kick. I didn't bother going back after that.
  4. According to a doctor fellow student of mine (ex-kung fu third dan who's just converted to Choi) diets are in general bad news, if you're not obese then losing weight is more effort, and more dangerous, than its worth. If you do want to lose weight the best way is to simply exercise sensibly and not overeat. Its slower, but not as likely to severely injure you through malnutrition.
  5. But imagine trying to collect your royalties.
  6. There are a few drills I know of for reverse swing kick, but I'm not sure if that's the same thing. As well as that we also have different basic principles to our kicks, so they may not be suitable. If you want them anyway just say.
  7. An ache the next day is fine, shows that you've worked and should dissappear after a decent stretch. An ache three days later is a sign of either very bad stretching/warm-up/cool-down or of damage.
  8. Here's the big question, and the one that's going to get me flamed. Is a homosexual partnership a stable environment for a child? Its known that single parent households are not as healthy (at least not usually) as two parent households, but what difference does it make when you've got two mothers or fathers? More importantly what do you have to deal with at school, when other children find out that your 'parents' are both the same sex? I'm not stating my opinions on these for the simple fact that I like my head attached to my shoulders, but anyone else should feel free to.
  9. Grandmaster Choi (not General Choi of TKD fame) weighs a grand total of eight stone, and is a tiny little guy. I've seen him kick a sixteen stone guy holding a five inch thick compressed stone shield through the air and off a stage. The reason is twofold, firstly the sheer speed, and secondly his technique is so near perfect as makes no odds, as the impact connects not only all of his muscle but his entire bodyweight is behind the kick.
  10. Anything cracking is bad, although I crack my knuckles myself and am trying to force myself to stop. Essentially what happens (as I understand) is that you damage the seal around the joint, allowing fluid to leak in/out. Slowly this damages the joint, and is a very common cause of arthritis in joints. How exactly do you do roundhouses, because all I can think of is that somehow you're pulling at the joint. If you stop cracking for around ten months generally you'll find your joints actually won't crack anymore.
  11. I fight equally from left and right front stance, but have an unfortunate tendency to favour my right arm and leg whichever stance I'm in. I'm actually trying to break myself of it now by only using my left side in drills.
  12. We have someone in our school who can't kick above his own knee height, and I mean that he physically cannot kick higher than that due to bone growth in his hips. So he can't do a round waist kick, jumping spin kick or any of those. However he is one of the fastest and most powerful people in the class. He has been dedicated to the art for years and while his kicks are low they are technically near-perfect. So, just because he can't do flashy kicks is there any reason he shouldn't grade?
  13. The only question remaining is why was a politician's son in four hundred street fights?
  14. I'd imagine not, that would be like trying to copyright a front kick. Of course, they'd have to be copying it perfectly in order to infringe on your copyrighting anyway, and the most likely way they'd be doing that would be if you taught them. And no, General Choi doesn't hold a coyright, otherwise whenever a student did forms they or their instructor would have to send him royalties.
  15. We often use dance music with a strong steady beat in class for patterns, it helps to keep people going at a reasonable speed rather than 'racing' ahead and taking shortcuts, damaging their technique.
  16. I'm trying to get around to learning Korean, I'm sure I will one day. The alphabet has a really interesting history and structure.
  17. How can you not like it if you've never seen or tried it? We're small because the art is only 15 years old, and we're one of the fastest growing in the world.
  18. I suppose the high price also helps to narrow it down to those who are truly dedicated to the art, and instructors need to eat as much as anyone else.
  19. Actually it would probably depend how close he was Withers, you've still got to draw your gun and switch off the safety, all he has to do is stick his hand out as he walks past.
  20. I'd suggest that you try CKD, but that's only natural. However if you are interested then the website's http://www.choikwangdo.net.
  21. A sword is a modern day sword, a gun is more like a bow and arrow. Technically if archery is a martial art then shooting should be though, it depends how you're taught.
  22. I'm not quite sure if that proves Einstein right or wrong, but its a theory anyway so it doesn't really matter. I think you need to add a fourth category, the self-defense arts, to include those arts that teach how to defend in the average confrontation, but not how to streetfight. Then again maybe not. I'm not sure. Ack. Head go boom.
  23. Actually the best thing to do is run away again another day, I've never really understood the point of fighting against another day if you can simply run.
  24. Isn't that bad? I think I must be seeing things, I can't believe that I just read that trash. They are terrorists. They run around and plant bombs to kill, injure and terrorise innocent people! How can you say that it 'isn't that bad'? An uncle of mine was in London and took a bus. He got off, and two minutes later the bus exploded. All of the paramilitaries are nothing more than worthless murderers, they are not freedom fighters, simply cowards trying to impose their will through murder, mayhem and chaos.
  25. I still meet some people who believe that you can dodge/catch bullets with martial arts.
