Cheers Brian...just got my internet back on. Yeah i can still do some light training and teaching but no sparring, can't risk getting it banged again. Like i say it was four weeks ago so i have seen some improvement, i just though it was a weird one, never had that happen before so thought i would mention it.

Thats so strange cos they seemed to be doing that at the comp, just picking people out to ref, seemed unfair. Also it was an open karate championships so you could have had wado ryu refs judging a shotokan kata which i also considered to be a little unfair.

Ahh right yes that makes sense cos it was bright red in the middle where the vien was and all black around it where my leg had bruised. Thanks for that x

Woohoo im so happy at the moment I decided i wanted to go to college to get some decent qualifications to get a decent job. I took History, English Literature and English Language. I was scared at first but i soon got into the flow of things...and here's the best bit I'm getting B's and A's in History...woohoo It's great fun and i'm so glad i decided to go to college.

We are allowed friends and family for support, i was watched by loads of people on my black belt grading and the sound of them clapping and cheering when i got a pass was fantastic. We are allowed camera's and videos but no flashe's/ I'm not sure why, maybe one of u guys could answer this. If a student is taking a 3rd dan or above no-one is allowed in the room?

Hey guys. Last month i entered my first comp and i was very dissapointed. There wasn't really enough ladies so for the kata the judges decided there wouldn't be an elimination so basically one shot one go. I decided to do Kanku_Dai which i had been working on for weeks prior to the comp. I scored 17.9 which was one point from 3rd place. The thing that bothered me is that if there had have been an elimination i would have got through on that score. Then there was kumite and i got knocked out on my first fight by a lady with a much lower grade...i was gutted. I was winning the fight all the way through but then it was a draw, it was like she was scoring without me realising. Anyway the fight came to time and the judge said the first to score wins, she punched me in the hip and they gave her the point, i was gutted. They must have thought she got the body i know it was my hip. Well i don't know if this experience has put me off comps, i can't decided weather to go in for one again or not. Just wanted to share. Hey guys, hope ur all well. I was at Karate about four weeks ago and we were doing line sparring. I went to do a front kick and this guy must have blocked it funny because he made my vien pop out. The injury is on the inside of leg in the soft bit at the side of my knee. It was weird to be honest, the pain was immense and the vien there just popped out (bit like a varicose vien). The bruise is huge and very tender. So i have had to stay out of karate unless i have been teaching. So my question is this: Have any of u guys had a weird injury like this before? A nd any idea's how long it will take to heal? I did phone our nurse and she said it just sounds like a bruised vien and it would take a while/ Kez x

Well i would feel more comfortable in the freestyle stance, zenkustu-dachi and kiba-dachi can be a little tireing on the legs lol

Oh this is sooooo cool i got my belt and it looks great, i'm really happy i did change it now because i wouldn't have it any other way! Also i have just got a really good bargain on a new gi, a blitz proffessional competition gi for £14, i'm all new and really happy! hehe Kez

our system has a purple belt, then a purple belt with a white stripe. Also a brown, brown with one white stripe and then a brown with two. The two being the highest out of the three brown belts. I do like the stripes, they are cool looking belts, especially the purple.

I think we have had many or similar posts like this before, but i just wanted to tell you all that i have ordered my black belt. I am getting frustrated because i have been waiting nearling 6 weeks, on the other hand i was very fussy and kept calling them to change it. Anyway in the end after changing my mind 3 times i have bought a silk belt, with my name in Japenese on one side, and shikata shotokan in japenese on the other side. So what do you guys have on yours? Kez
