Okay in my opinion the Holy Spirt and ki are two entirly different things. As a Christian I belive that the Holy Spirit is the third part of the trinity(God the father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit)The Holy Spirit is the part of God that lives in you when you become a Christian.I'm not sure develop would be the right word as you said in your post since the Holy Spirit is a being not a thing. But rather though prayer your develop a relationship with God. Ki,I belive, is an inpersonal force though I'm not sure if I should put anything else on ki since I'm not sure what I truly think of it myself. Forgive me if I come of as overly religius (sp?) I'm a bit of an evangalist. I agree with you..........

I'm 30 y/o......5'7" and my "wingspan" from finger tip to finger tip is only 66 inches. How do you other guys/gals with short reaches fight against people with long reaches. I guess I am refering to kumite/tournaments and not actual street fighting. The good Lord blessed me with decent strength and speed but that reach advantage gets me sometimes. Do you try to be quick and work the angles?....or do you try to "muscle" your way inside? I know that each situation and oppenent is different, but in a "general" sense what is normal strategy?..Thanks for the comments.

I have heard from a few buddies that using a "slow-fast" technique when doing some exercises can be benifical.....for instance when doing bench press bring the bar down very slowly then as soon as it touches your chest push it up as hard and fast as you can....same thing with push ups, lower yourself as slow as possible and as soon as you touch the floor push yourself up as fast as you can.......do all with correct form of course. I was curious if any of you guys done this and if it was effective for strenght and speed. Thanks for the input.

Gotcha...does make sense...the only thing that is weird Shoan is that I can stretch it and it doesnt hurt or anything..then when I kick not even up to the width of how far I can stretch it.....I still get the pulling feeling....i would have guessed I would have really felt it when I stretch esp. since I can stretch it farther than when I am kicking....but your point does make sense...and I guess deep down inside I figured thats what it was, but wanted a second opinion.... Thanks for your input. -

Thank you very much for your reply and it does make sense.......but I think I am doing that exercise...I am doing splits on my own....then (this may not be what your talken about).....I will sit on the floor with my legs straight out in front of me, the I will spread them apart as far as I can then will have someone sit directly in front of me, facing me, and I will have them put there feet on the inside of my ankles and will have them come closer to me and push with their feet (man, sounds like Im describing a sexual position doesnt it ) out which stretches my legs out farther....If thats not what you talken about please let me know and thanks for your response.... -
I do not want to confuse anyone with my stupidity so I'm gonna try to explain this as best as my feeble mind will let me. I've been taking karate for almost 2 months and I can REALLY see a big difference in my stretching ability. It has really gotten better. I'm stretching no every, but almost every day and like I said its going well. My only problem is this......take this senerio I can do split stretches past 90 degrees with both legs and with each single leg and I can I lateral leg swings past 90 degrees but it continues to seem that (even after I am really loose and completely stretched) when I attempt to do a "regular" sidekick, mainly with my left leg, to a height of 90 degrees I'm still getting a feeling of a pulled groin muscle even though I am stretching and doing leg swings that are past 90 degrees. Can anyone help me out as to what I can do to help with this? Thanks for the help and I hope I dont confuse anyone.

I greatly, greatly apologize ahead of time, for asking so many questions.....this one in particualar being kinda of lenghty...but I am 30 years old...and have started back for the last 2 months taking MA. I love it. Unfortuanatlly I am out of shape and not very flexable. I took MA back in high school but quit to play football and baseball. I am looking for some advice on a workout routine (cardio, stretching, strength) thats pretty in detail that I can go by. I have looked all over the net and cant really find anything particular...as in a specific routine (maybe I'm not looking hard enough). I was wondering if you had an idea (or know of somewhere I could find one) of a start off set routine that I can do each week..mainly cardio and stretching. I have always lifted weights and am still pretty strong but my cardio and flexabilty is lacking alot. Again I'm sorry to ask such a BIG question and I apologize for bothering you but I just want to do the right thing to better myself. Thank you for any adivce/tips/help you offer. Thank you very very much for your time.

Sohan, when do you start increasing the times you work out from starting off with one of each every week? Thank you. You don't (trick answer). You never strength train a particular exercise or bodypart more than twice per week. Bench twice per week, squat twice per week, deadlift once per week, etc... The number of total workouts, however, may differ depending on how you split your routine (ie push/pull), but this rule applies nonetheless. If you can train a particular exercise more frequently without getting hurt, then you are either taking more drugs than the Bulgarian women's swim team or you aren't working hard enough. With respect, Sohan Ok...gotcha....I see what your saying now....Thanks again my friend for your help.

Stretching/exercises while at work?
savedbygrace replied to savedbygrace's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thank you for your comments. It makes alot of sense. -
This is probably gonna sound like a dumb question but I've started back into karate for about 2 months now. Needless to say I'm working on my stretching. Right now we are only having class one night a week. I, fortunatly, sometimes have time during lunch break to do a lil strectching. Would/could it be beneifical to continue to stretch on days of class? I notice sometimes on days I stretch at work....when I get off work I'm a lil stiff, so I'm wondering if I should wait until its time for class. Any comments/suggestions? Thanks

I have worked as an ER/Trama RN for over 9 years, and have seen the problems uncontrolled diabetes can cause. This is VERY good advice and a very good point. Bottom line......take care of yourself...

I am sorry to hear that my friend. I tore my ACL completely into in my right knee several years ago while playing football. It was about 6 months before I could really start back playing sports aggressively again. I pray for a speedy recovery for you.

Yes greenbelt girl I am.....but I prefer to say i'm a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. I think the word Christian is not bad, but is misused alot. I am by no means perfect of think Im perfect...but I strive to serve a perfect savior.
