My style does a lot of linear movement, but when we do joint manipulations and self-defense techniques, we get more circular things going on. I feel that the cirucular maneovers help to get around the rigid, strong people who try to resist when you are linear vs. linear.

The Art of Not Fighting

Ah, very sneaky. I thought it was a true story! But very well written, and very practical. -

That looks like some very interesting stuff. I would love to see my style incorporate more ground work and joint locks. -
Give Sohan a PM. He is a personal trainer, and may be able to help you out.

Just started Systema....
bushido_man96 replied to glockmeister's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It sounds like Systema may have some similiarities to Krav Maga. Very combat oriented systems. -
Just about every kick in TKD can be performed at belt level, if need be. Even jumping kicks don't have to be performed at super high levels of height.

I think that the executive producer is the person who is primarily financing the show. -
My current intsructor told me to quit doing backfists in sparring, because they were to the body, and wouldn't produce much, because we need body displacement to score. And no contact to head with hands. Anyhow, if I do a backfist, it would most likely be to the side of the face, with the lead hand, and would be a snapping motion, kind of like the jab.

Fight prep

They say that losing builds character. Well, if that is the case, I think I have enough for the lot of us! Now I can start building other things, maybe. -
That's a good idea, checking with the organization. If there is no organization, then you should be able to have one of the high ranks fill in until the instructor gets back.

Shukokai Grading 30/07/06

Thank you Sorry for whinging - its my own fault if I do something wrong. Very self pitying of me I know Don't think of it as whining. Think of it as constructive self-reflection. Of course, you don't want to be too negative with yourself. -
I think it is a good thing to have a board breaking class. However, I don't see why everyone could not attend. It is a good exercise for everyone to practice, in my opinion. Even low rank students could perform one board breaks with techniques like the palm heel strike and the front kick.

No, I heard a little bit about the story line...he come out of retirement, during which he has been running his gym. Don't know much more than that, though. -
That sounds kind of interesting. So, in karate class, you spar like TKD, with lots of kicking, and at TKD class, you jump on the fact that they like to kick, and get close and punch. Now, do you ever attempt to try to use a balance of both, and work some kind of strategy that way when you spar at each of the classes? Or, do you ever try to mix it up and spar karate like karate, and TKD like TKD? Not that I am trying to generalize, just going off what you mentioned.

avoiding blisters?
bushido_man96 replied to taekwondomom's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I have never really had a problem with blisters. However, maybe less spinning would help reduce the problem some. Or, let the blisters callous, and then soon you won't have to worry about them anymore! -
I think the jab would have more power than the backfist, but the backfist is nice to change to if you jab a lot. By switching, you can throw off your opponent a little.

I don't think Stallone signed on for this series. Isn't he supposed to be filming Rocky 6? -
It sounds like you are doing the right thing, here. Teaching can be difficult, so stick with it. If you can get another high rank to help you out from time to time, it would benefit you greatly.

Don't be too down on yourself.....just think how much better you will do when you are 100%. Keep your chin up, and keep working hard! -
No matter what art you study, it is going to take some time to become good. There is no short cut. Hard work and dedication are what it takes.

Psychology of pressure points?
bushido_man96 replied to parkerlineage's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I feel that the mentality/toughness of the individual that you face will have some bearing on the results of attacking a pressure point. Some people have higher pain tolerance levels than others, and this will have an effect of the results. -
When everything just clicks.
bushido_man96 replied to cathal's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yeah they can be difficult but I had to pretty much learn them trial and error because my instructor at taught them did them by pure muscle and had no idea how to really make it work without forcing it. It was very sloppy with him. I learned the dynamics of them and then was able to drop people that weighed in at 250 fairly easily and these are people he had some fits with because of their size. Not bad for a guy that now weighs 160 and then only went at 135. If you ever need help with them I would be happy to help a little where I can. Sounds good. When I start reviewing my ICHF, I'll be corresponding with you if I have questions. -
