  1. Welcome to KF! Alsey has some good advise there. Giving all you got is never bad for testings. As for eating, I would eat light, so you don't get your stomach upset, and always try to stay hydrated. Can't beat good ole water for this. Good luck in testing!
  2. Well, it looks like you have thought this out quite a bit. You have some good elements in there. Recognizing the threat level is important. Feeling out your opponent on the street though, may prove more difficult than it would be in a sport situation. Other than that, it is sound.
  3. Good for you, Shotokan-kez. Forcing the issue just causes burnout faster. And as he matures, he may start to take a liking to it, and he could take off.

  5. Another good idea is to have some information pamphlets with class times, etc. listed on them to hand out after you demo. Helps lead them in.

  9. I was wondering, in relation to Muay Thai, how long does it take to toughen up your legs to take all those kicks to the thighs? I know in Thailand they start young, they have to be tough. But how long would it take an adult like me, and how would I go about doing it?
  10. I don't think some people appreciate what kind of an 'athlete' it takes to be a race car driver. These people are very talented, and I respect them greatly. Personally, I love dirt track racing.
  11. I had a student once years ago, who got drunk at a party, and then announced that she could do the splits, and dropped straight into them. Problem is, she really couldn't do them. She was tore up real bad for a while, and needless to say, it did not improve her flexibility.

  14. Sounds like you did a good job. You covered lots of stuff, showing your range of coverage as far as arts go. One suggestion is to get a guinea pig, and have him to demonstrate self-defense. Toss him around on a mat a little, people dig that.
  15. Whatever kata you decide to do, take it apart, break it down, and make sure you feel confident with it. If you have good technique, then you should be able to take either one. Just make sure you have the intracies of it down. Good luck to you!
  16. I always enjoyed doing forms. But, I sometimes wondered why some moves were the way they were. Now I know that I need to study it deeper to really see what they mean.

  19. This sounds like a great idea. Do you do things like bunkai and stuff? Or does it just depend on the course?
  20. I have the opposite problem. Too little control. Somehow, I am really trying to have control but I just tend to snap out of it. I guess this would be a topic for another thread, but maybe any of you has similar experiences and can tell me what you have done about it without sacrificing power/distance/speed? This just comes with time. Slow down a little, and have your partner slow down too. Then do a faster match. It will come, don't worry.
  21. Well, sometimes when you throw a counter, but pull it a little, and the other person doesn't realize you could have taken their head off, so they don't respect it. Also, getting close, but not connecting.
  22. Nice post. I don't know why, but I have always found interest in the Indonesian/Phillipene styles. Especially the stick fighting styles.
