  1. I was wondering, in relation to Muay Thai, how long does it take to toughen up your legs to take all those kicks to the thighs? I know in Thailand they start young, they have to be tough. But how long would it take an adult like me, and how would I go about doing it?
  2. I don't think some people appreciate what kind of an 'athlete' it takes to be a race car driver. These people are very talented, and I respect them greatly. Personally, I love dirt track racing.
  3. I had a student once years ago, who got drunk at a party, and then announced that she could do the splits, and dropped straight into them. Problem is, she really couldn't do them. She was tore up real bad for a while, and needless to say, it did not improve her flexibility.
  4. Yea I guess we are... To Bushido_man96: thanks for telling me to breathe it really helps you not die... Anytime I can help!
  5. This is the number of posts you have, listed under your name on the left. When you hit certain numbers, your belt color changes. 1000=black.
  6. Sounds like you did a good job. You covered lots of stuff, showing your range of coverage as far as arts go. One suggestion is to get a guinea pig, and have him to demonstrate self-defense. Toss him around on a mat a little, people dig that.
  7. Whatever kata you decide to do, take it apart, break it down, and make sure you feel confident with it. If you have good technique, then you should be able to take either one. Just make sure you have the intracies of it down. Good luck to you!
  8. I always enjoyed doing forms. But, I sometimes wondered why some moves were the way they were. Now I know that I need to study it deeper to really see what they mean.
  9. HEY, HEY, just take it easy, man......slowly.....now breath. There ya go. See now? All better.
  10. Good luck!
  11. This sounds like a great idea. Do you do things like bunkai and stuff? Or does it just depend on the course?
  12. I have the opposite problem. Too little control. Somehow, I am really trying to have control but I just tend to snap out of it. I guess this would be a topic for another thread, but maybe any of you has similar experiences and can tell me what you have done about it without sacrificing power/distance/speed? This just comes with time. Slow down a little, and have your partner slow down too. Then do a faster match. It will come, don't worry.
  13. Well, sometimes when you throw a counter, but pull it a little, and the other person doesn't realize you could have taken their head off, so they don't respect it. Also, getting close, but not connecting.
  14. Nice post. I don't know why, but I have always found interest in the Indonesian/Phillipene styles. Especially the stick fighting styles.
  15. You have to understand, that I don't think God intended to lay everything out in the Bible. There will be holes in spots, or things not mentioned. Heck, they just found some more scriptures, The Gospel According to Judas. Who knows what they have not found, yet.
  16. Yeah, that I need work on.
  17. Sometimes, I have gas at class. I have gas a lot, though. The secret is trying to slip them out quietly. Do that in a sparring ring, and see if the person notices. Then POUNCE!
  18. That's great news, Sohan. Glad we could help.
  19. Yes, congratulations on the 1000th post! You always have good info. I feel like we have a good group of regulars hanging out here, and it is always fun to see everyone's replys. The banter is exceptional! I have enjoyed this forum so much, and have made some very good contacts, and dare I say, some friends, off of this site. The feeling of comaraderie is great (did I spell that right?).
  20. You guys are gonna make me blush....
  21. We used to do it kind of like this in our old school in my hometown. It is always tough workout, sitting in stances while the instructor explains things. Good workout, because you get used to doing everything in a flowing manner, and not slowing down. I was always sore after those workouts!
  22. The orientation is a half hour class, where it is just the student/students that are new, one on one with the instructor.
