Those are some great knockouts, DWx. One thing I have to say, though: "get your freakin' hands up, guys!"

High Kick Leg Takedowns
bushido_man96 replied to Johnlogic121's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
What you usually have to do is try to pull your leg back, bringing you and the other fighter together. At that point, clinching up and attacking with your arms would be a good way to start regaining your lost leg. If you stay way outside, with your leg straighter, then I think it puts you in bigger peril, and leaves the opponent holding your leg with more options to attack than you have to defend. -
It would be interesting to see if Anderson's fast pace would wear him out. If they used Boxing rules, and Boxing gloves, I don't know if the fast pace would be as coducive as it would be in an MMA match. With the lighter gloves, the knockouts come more easily. With the bigger Boxing gloves, it would change the strategy a bit, I think. Either way, if he is good condition, he may be able to set a quick pace, and possibly overwhelm Jones. You can't count out Jones, though. That guy is a great all-around athlete. He tried out for some semi-pro basketball at one point. He's got a good stroke.

I understand why you stated this. At times, it can be appropriate. However, it is also an indication of letting your ego dictate how people act towards you, and at times, you don't want to involve your ego.

Thanks, Zanshin. I know that many times the bunkai of the techniques doesn't really match what it appears to in the form. In our TKD form Toi Gye, we have a similar move.

These, again, are mostly Eastern procedures for doing Martial Arts. We just don't do those things in the West as a natural thing. So, does that mean that because the West has a more "liberal" approach to things, that there can be no "traditional" Western Martial Arts? I don't believe so.

How to fight larger opponents

After the single leg, where would you go from there? Would you attempt to mount and attack, or could you just try to get away from them? -
UFC negotiating with Fedor Emelianenko
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
He is definitely one of the most dominant fighters in the world right now. Couture would love to fight him, and I think the two are pretty evenly matched. I think it would be a good fight. -
The UFC is currently working with Fedor in an attempt to bring him into a one-fight deal in which he would face Randy Couture: http://www.mmafightline.com/news/2008/313/fedor_emelianenko_318666.shtml I would love to see this fight, as it would be a great match for both men, who are at the top of their game.

What do you think of this matchup: Roy Jones Jr. vs. Anderson Silva? Apparently, this seems to be something that may be in the works. According to the article, Silva looks up to Jones, and would love to prove the worth of the UFC fighters in the Boxing ring. This match would be fought under Boxing rules, in an attempt to stoke some of the comments heard from fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr. I think that this would be great match to see. Who would tune in to it? Who would you take?

Man, I would love to see this fight! I think it is going to be televised on NBC, so perhaps I will get my wish! Le seems fairly confident in his ability to defeat Shamrock. I think that Shamrock will be a very tough opponent for Le, and this should be a good fight. What do you think the outcome will be?

3-26-08 TKD Testing: 6:00 - 7:30. Testing included a demo by the Black Belts. Demo included basics, some one-steps, some Ho Sin Sul, and some board breaking. I did a jump 360 degree round kick, through two boards. We also demonstrated our forms for the audience. Testing when well for the students, and we had one that tested for 1st Dan. Her technique was really good, and she nailed her board breaks. She also did well with sparring. -
This, I wouldn't have a problem with. Let them think what they want. I don't care what they think. However, if it continues, then you need to act in some way, I think. Sometimes just getting chest to chest with them, and showing them that they may have to fight you, might be enough for them to try and save face and walk away. If not, then it may be time to take your shot.

I haven't looked back in a while, but what would the move represent, in your eyes, Zanshin?

There is some confusion in some of the definitions here. There were "Traditional" MAs that were done in sport form, like the Kickboxing that guys like Bill Wallace, Benny Uriquidez, Skipper Mullins, and Chuck Norris competed in. So, why do they still get to be called TMAs? Boxing and Wrestling are both hundreds of years old; Wrestling may very well be the oldest Martial Art there is. Why don't they get reserved for the "Traditional" tag? Because they are not from the Far East? Because they don't have Forms? Because someone didn't write a book on Wrestling called Wrestling Kyohan? I just don't see why the difference is there.

How to fight larger opponents
bushido_man96 replied to Throwdown0850's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think the low line round kick to the common peroneal is a great justifier, as long as you aren't being picked on by a guy with Muay Thai experience. A finger jab to the eye may help as well, if you find yourself that close to the opponent. However, most people will defend the head well, so you have to get a good spot. -
How scared REALLY are you to fight?
bushido_man96 replied to Throwdown0850's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
It is thinking about all the variables that could come into play that start messing with your mind at times, I think. One moment, you could be scrapping, you break, and then notice that your arms are bleeding, and the other guy has pulled a knife. Realism would set in real quick. Would you end up thinking about your family, and what if this guy kills you? What do you think? -
That stuff has been spreading like wildfire here too. I have been fortunate so far not to get it (knock on wood), and I hope that the warm weather coming finally kills it off. I hope you get well soon.

3-21-08 I took my son to the park near our house today, and while he was running around, I decided to try to do some pull ups on the playground equipment. I can't do a pull up yet, but I did a few partial ones, and then did the monkey bar swining, working on my pull up muscles. I think I will try to work on this on a regular basis.
