This style is unfamiliar to me. Could you tell us some more about it?

That is a cool idea. Neat that the certificates are hand written, too.

Welcome back to the Forums! I hope that you are able to find a place to train.

Toughness is often an attribute overlooked. Many times, toughness can overcome skill. -

5-1-08 TKD Class: 6:00 - 7:00. Class was ok tonight. I didn't feel like my basics were that great. At the end, we worked on some sparring drills that were kind of fun. -

I didn't realize that hyperextensions would cause problems like that. My bad. -
This was exactly what I was thinking. If you are going to try to display your toughness by trying to hurt someone, do it in sparring/kumite. Don't take advantage of someone who is intentionally exposing themselves to you.

Cool. Sounds like someone a guy could learn a lot from. -
I will oblige, when I get some time to look at my book again.

Nothing special, really. The belt is given, and acknowledgement is given in class. Hand shaking and congrats happen after class.

One note in particular that comes to mind is the myth that the bad guys don't train. I have heard different stories of guys in the pens that train for various scenarios. For example, I was told that the inmates will assume a cuffing position, and then practice dropping to the ground and scissoring the legs out from under the guy who is playing the arresting officer. Where there's a will, there's a way. -
I am a Magnet for Trouble!!

I don't agree that every act of violence has a cause. Unless you refer to someone being mentally unbalanced as a cause. There are people out there who just gravitate towards violence. A sociopath doesn't need a reason to resort to violence. I agree that awareness is an important trait to train, too. However, violence can come from unsuspected sources. For instance, many rapes are committed by someone that the victim knows. I am not saying you shouldn't be aware when you are surrounded by friends, but most of us don't think of ourselves as potential victims when we are surrounded by our friends. -

4-28-08 Chest/triceps Bench press: 155x10, 185x6, 205x4 Dips: 2 sets of 4 Technique work: Cable back kick: 50x5, 5 each leg. Jab: 3 sets of 10x10 lbs. each side. Middle block: 2 sets of 10x8 lbs. each side. TKD class: 6:00 - 7:00. Taught class tonight. There were 4 adults in the class, so when I had them break to get drinks, I told them each to grab sets of dumbells, 5 lbs., 8 lbs., 10 lbs., whatever they felt comfortable with, and I had them do Chon Ji hyung, holding onto the dumbells. They really enjoyed it. -
Him first, you second.

As many as you want. Some people try to see how many they can do in 2:00 minutes. Some will do intervals of 20 seconds followed by 10 seconds of rest of 2 minutes. You can mix it up, depending on what your focus is.

Wow, that's a really cool story, thanks for sharing. And it makes sense too! That's cool about Ed Parker too, that's awesome that you two were friends, he was quite the gentleman, and an amazing Martial Artist. This is a case where the stigma if "don't wash your belt, ever!" is a result of a process that would ruin the belt, or otherwise negate what you have done to it, from washing it. Now, in the day and age of manufactured belts that don't shrink or fall apart or lose color, the stigma doesn't carry. It just isn't necessary. Yet some people will hang on.

Sounds like you had a good time and learned a lot. I am not familiar with the name, though. Is he all BJJ, or does he fight, too? -
That is an interesting post. Thanks for sharing it. There is another swordsman that talked about the "Two-fold Mind;" he was a contemporary of Musashi's, but he was an Englishman named George Silver. Although he does not discuss it in concert with the use of the pen, he does have his own view, nonetheless.
