  1. No picks, but the Jackson/Griffin fight should be a good one to watch.
  2. Thanks, ps1. I could be one of those that fall into the category that you mention. I don't know much of the history of TKD, other than what I have read in books. However, the history of TKD is so confused and mussed up, anyways, it is difficult to seperate fact from fiction. I have read up on other arts, but to be able to recite the histories verbatim, I could not do.
  3. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us, Heidi. I really enjoyed reading them.
  4. Very interesting. Cool.
  5. The story looks interesting, and since I am big into the superhero movies, I will probably rent this one.
  6. Hey, it was worth a try, though!
  7. Well, first off, I would think it would suck. However, the idea behind a test is that it shouldn't be 100% planned and expected. It is what it is; a test. Also great if you as the instructor forgot to put together a class plan for that night....
  8. Its a good thing the owner was there. Its sad to know that there are some people who let dogs like this run around out there.
  9. Ah, cereal. The good stuff. 6-29-08 20 minute walk with the wife and little one.
  10. Check with USA Taekwondo, or maybe even Kwon magazine.
  11. I would much rather be associated with an ARMA study group than with the SCA, however.
  12. I think that Zanshin and tallgeese are right on the same page, and I agree with you both. I think that this is something that MMA may begin to contribute to, as well. The casual fight fan may have an interest in MA knowledge, as opposed to physical skill.
  13. Perhaps this will just go around in circles, but what the hey! I was thinking about this because I do a ton of reading. There is enough information out there today that one could become an expert on the topic of the Martial Arts without ever doing a single punch or kick or takedown. Now, this person may not be someone you could approach about self-defense experiences, but realistically, one could learn the concepts and strategies, histories and philosophies about the Martial Arts in general, or one in particular, without really practicing one. Thoughts?
  14. A very well written treatise on breaking. I enjoyed it very much.
  15. I do like the movies. There is an author that is carrying on the Bourne series, and there is a book out: The Bourne Betrayal, I believe. I wonder why Universal doesn't use it for the background?
  16. Not so much insomnia; I work nights!
  17. I don't carry off-duty, or on right now. I am still working on that end... However, I don't know what the regs are for me to carry off-duty, either. I may look into that.
  18. This is good to see. Things will begin to regulate better for MMA as this continues.
  19. 6-28-08 Went on a 20 minute walk tonight.
  20. I have had experience in the SCA. It is nice, and the fighting can be fun, but I don't care for their restrictions so much, and their fighting is an augmented form of stick fighting as opposed to the actual combat techniques of Medieval Swordsmen. It is fun, though, and I do enjoy it.
  21. I agree. This is what I have dealt with both in my Combat Hapkido training and in our TKD ho sin sul. My DT partner and I have been working towards more applicable ideas for our training. This approach is pretty much the same that Abernethy uses in training; striking is more efficient, and you should be aiming to end the confrontation with strikes. If the opportunity for the joint manipulation shows up, then take it; if it fails, hit them again, or hit them on the way down. But don't go looking for the joint lock. Look to strike first.
  22. Well put, RAZ. That just about sums that up, I think.
  23. Why would you want them to have to test again? If they have already completed the test once, and met the requirements, then why do it again? Just because they have gotten older? B/C in their intern phase they're a pseudo black belt. In this case, I say either hold them off altogether, or give them the rank; otherwise, it just seems like beating a dead horse.
