  1. He just needs to go see the new Hulk movie, and get pumped up! Well, it worked for me, anyways. But in all seriousness, I think that Shorikid has nailed it, really. He needs to either set himself to training for fights, and do it, or go with his gym.
  2. I played the old Metroid on the NES, but didn't clear it in any kind of time to get a cool ending. I still liked it, but didn't ever get to play any of the other versions.
  3. Probably a Corvette.
  4. Congrats!!!! I met my wife at my TKD classes, so I kind of follow you here. Best of luck to you two as you journey the road together.
  5. I saw the Hulk today. I managed to talk the wife into taking me for my father's day present, and she even liked it. So, for me, the movie was a 2 hour adrenaline rush. But, I tend to get over excited at times. It was hard for me not to just clench up and give a big Hulk yell during the movie. When I buy it and watch it at home, there may be issues.... Anyway, for those that saw the Ironman movie (I missed it), were there any indications that there would be a Hulk/Ironman themed movie in the future? Because at the end of the Hulk, Dr. Stark makes an appearance, asks the General about his "problem," and then says that he is "putting a team together...." Does anyone have any info to add to this? I am still excited about seeing this movie, and it is left open for at least one sequel. Anyways....I loved it. You know what I really like about the Hulk? He is a guy who is really in touch with his Chi...... HULK SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. Nice post, Shorikid. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I wish that I had more schools available here, not to challenge, but to go experience and learn from, and make new MA friends.
  7. Welcome to KF!
  8. Avengers are next? Cool! Is that going to include Captain America? I had heard that a Cap movie was to be done. There is supposed to be a Wolverine movie in the works, too. Can't wait for next Batman and Superman to hit the shelves, either. I am supposed to go see The Incredible Hulk today, for my father's day present!
  9. I would love to be able to practice in Western Swordsmanship, but there aren't any active groups near where I live. I would do it just because it interests me, and I love it. As for other weapons, I would like to practive knife and stick, as they would relate more to my line of work now. I do work with the gun when I get a chance.
  10. Well done, and good luck coming up!
  11. In the end, waivers don't stand up very well. Otherwise, schools wouldn't need insurance.
  12. I think you missed my point. I'm saying your regular students start saying they will not test because they don't care about rank also. Do you continue to teach them the techniques associated with the next rank when their ready? Or do you say if you don't test then I don't teach you any of the advanced techniques past your current level? Not teaching them their next level of techniques would be unfair when your allowing someone else to train and not test just because they are from another system. As far as our classes go, the basics that we do are the same for everyone. Then there are one-steps and forms, which I don't think the other person would do, if he wasn't going to be testing for rank. Therefore, there wouldn't really be this problem. If he wanted to show some things that he learned to me and my students, then that would be acceptable as well. I would also share information with him. The bottom line would be that I would be willing to work with him in relation to his skill level, like I do with my own students. If students don't want to test, then that is their perogative. I can't make them test. But at the same time, I wouldn't see a bunch of students staging an uprising in my school, either.
  13. I agree with the others. If it is the way that you feel, then who cares what anyone else thinks? I would also maybe mention to him that if he doesn't like the instructor, then that is fine, but that maybe you don't want to hear the negativity about it. People don't always see eye to eye, and that sounds like the case between him and your instructor. In the end, do what you feel is right, and feel good about it.
  14. What can you think of as primarily "kicking" oriented Martial Arts? Off the top of my head, I get: Capoiera: Lots of kicking and evasion, but with some other forms of attacks. Taek Kyon: A revival art in Korea, said to be the original, that is played more as a game, and has a similarity to Capoiera. TKD: Very kick oriented, especially when it comes to Olympic sparring. I have only read about Tang Soo Do for the most part, so would any TSD practitioners say that is as kick oriented as TKD is? Or its more of a balance? Does anyone have anything else to offer as far as these or other kicking styles go?
  15. Well, when you talk about competition, then you can kind of throw ideas of "purity" out the window. In self-defense, it is another matter; you do what you have to do to survive. But when it comes to competition, you should know the rule set you are going to compete under, and then train accordingly, and try to win accordingly. Personally, I would have done what I know would have helped me to win. That isn't to say that your friend's strategy was a bad one, though. He just got caught. My two cents, anyways.
  16. Combat is more about mindset than anything. If you get into it with someone, thinking "I am going to kick his butt," and the other guy/girl is thinking "I am going to do everything in my power to kill this person," then you may be setting yourself up for a real world of hurt.
  17. I think that the talent level is starting to really come around in the UFC, and parity is greater. It isn't like Hughes is losing to C rated fighters. He just needs to respark his training, and maybe adjust it in a few ways. We see losses come to those who seem to be on top come quite often now. In the UFC, it is "who knows" most of the time, anyways. That is what I like about MMA over Boxing; in Boxing, it always seemed that you knew who was on top. In the UFC, it just isn't that way. And that is what makes it great.
  18. During my ATA days, I sparred a lot with a guy who went on to win his State Qualifier under what was then the USTU. He spent time training at the Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, and was going to go to the National tryouts, but ended up not making it there due to some scheduling deal.
  19. If you are being struck hard enough, then you may be getting light concussions. You may want to consult your doctor.
  20. Welcome to the Forums!
  21. Same county as Topeka, the capital.
  22. I haven't seen it yet, but I hope to soon. I loved the first one, and if this one is supposed to be better, then I am set. The Hulk has to be my favorite hero.
  23. My family and I actually hit the links last weekend when I went home to visit. We golfed like crap, but we had a good time.
