I have seen these tools that you mention, but other than the makiwara conditioning that hands, I think they focus a bit more on developing some strength as opposed to the physical toughness. I have seen exercise that some Karate styles have done where the student stands in front of the sensei, who then slaps the student on various body parts to toughen them a bit.

Exactly. That's pretty much what I was trying to say. -
Fighting vs. Self-Defense?
bushido_man96 replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
You don't think that it can be self-defense in a bar? I think it could be. Although it doesn't work this way often, I don't think that going to a bar should automatically have to cause you to be on the lookout for a fight or an attack. But, it usually does. -
Found...one hit, one kill...
bushido_man96 replied to Bushido-Ruach's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The battlefield usage is not a valid arguement, for one major reason; on the battlefield, there would usually be some form of armor worn for protection. If you can't strike the nerve, then you aren't going to get any results. These techniques could not have been developed or used on the battlefield, due to the use of protective coverings of some type. The main things developed for battlefield usage were weapons and weapons techniques. Hand-to-hand combat has always been of a secondary concern to battlefield warriors throughout the centuries. Whether or not these techniques were designed for the high ranks or masters of the arts, is speculation at best. There just isn't enough proof to go around. -

These repsonses are from the found...one hit, one kill thread, and it was brought to my attention that the subject in these posts might be worth its own thread, so I have started the topic here. Thanks for reading. -

The martial arts stances combined with a colt...
bushido_man96 replied to Boris's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I could only view one of the sites above, and he had a pretty side-on stance. Unless he's got a steady hand, I prefer to have two on, like tallgeese mentions. You can opt for a slightly bladed body posititon, but it won't be side on. -
Hopefully, I'll get to see a replay of this fight. I've read, and heard some reports, and it was GSP just pretty much dominating Penn.

Constant experimentation vs. tradition

That is one nice thing about small organizations that have easy access to each other. Its just too bad that the lower ranks can't get together and do this kind of thing, as well. -

That's pretty cool. Sometimes, just finding something that you have in common with someone will help things to take off. -
Those are some crazy messed up cakes. I'll bet there were some complaints, too.

You could even try this on BOB using the forearms as striking tools; they are very good tools for this, too.

Thanks for the advise, Fit. I don't mind getting sore at all; I kind of like it at times; it let's me know I have been working, at least. There are times, though, that is seems like I don't get sore, and others when I do.

1-31-09 Aikido class: 10:00 - 12:00. It was nice to finally get back to it, but next week, I'll miss it again, because I am going to be out of town to see the folks. Oh well. 2-2-09 Today is a bummer. I was sick the day before, and still feel kind of crappy. So I am taking it easy today. -
I don't think that it has much to do with the "guns." Being overall fit, however, is something that would be, I believe.
