  1. Happy Halloween, everyone! Have a fun and safe night!
  2. 10/28/2013 Taught TKD: 6:00 - 7:30 pm. There were 10 in this class, but only 1 was an adult. We got through basics, where I added in a combination to work on back leg side kicks along with front stances. I had three of the high ranked kids there do some forms review with the lower ranks, along with their own forms. One-steps, everyone got some review and their own steps down, and we took some time to spar, as well. Unfortunately, after the class, I had a parent tell me one of our older kids would watch me, and when I turned my back, proceed to turn up the contact levels with some of the kids. I'm glad it was pointed out to me, but frustrated that it was going on when I wasn't looking. So, I'll be addressing this with the head instructor, as well.
  3. I do recall reading this somewhere before. I think all the Naifanchi katas were originally one, as well, weren't they?
  4. I think everyone is guilty of this to some degree. It would be more worrying if people never re-evaluated their stance on something despite receiving new information and experiences. I think this is part of what makes KF so great. Its only natural that as we grow, learn, and mature, that over time, our stances on some issues will change a bit. Its cool to go back over old posts from time to time to see what and how views have changed.
  5. Don't worry, yamesu. You do.
  6. I love the Mr. Clark's Room story. Its a cool bit of history to KF. Thanks for all you've done with KF, SaiFights!
  7. Your posts are always great to read, pittbull. Guys with experience like you, tallgeese, and ps1 are always posts I look towards when I have questions about grappling. I've gone from reading some of those posts and not understanding a word of them, to starting to see and understand what is being described. I'm still a long way from being any kind of level of proficient, but I've made a start, and you and your posts, along with those of the other grapplers around KF, have helped. I also recall our brief run of fantasy MMA while you were on staff. It was a good time, for sure! I also think its so cool that you have the opportunity to train alongside your brother like that. The family that kicks together, sticks together!
  8. Thanks for sharing this, Danielle. You bring so much to this community, and we are very fortunate to have you here with us. I always enjoy being able to talk to you about the similarities and differences in our TKD experiences.
  9. Thanks for sharing your interview with us! Its great to have you here at KF!
  10. Thanks for the mention, CredoTe. I always enjoy reading your posts, and always enjoy learning from those who have been around longer than I have. Its been great having you at KF! I enjoyed your experience with your board break at 8 years old, and how it affected your will to achieve your goals. Thanks for sharing your interview with us!
  11. Thanks for sharing this interview with us. Its been great working with you on the staff!
  12. Great interview. Hopefully, we'll see you pop in again soon! Thanks for sharing this with us.
  13. Thanks for that, Bob. But I wouldn't count the Cowboys out just yet. Romo is playing pretty well, and that division is wide open.
  14. Series tied 1-1 as they head to St. Louis. I think game one was an oddball, and the rest won't be like that.
  15. Rateh, it sounds like you really keep them moving! Good stuff! Nidian Melbourne, I hope your instructor gets better soon!
  16. I hear you - it is a double edged sword. I, myself, as a child was a little snot in the dojo. Not mean, but I goofed around way too much and must have been distracting to the older and more serious students. I cringe when I think about how I used to behave. Then again, if I hadn't been enrolled or if they kicked me out, I might never have grown up to love martial arts the way I do, and Kyokushin would have never gained this student. My memory of how I used to behave, and my demeanor in the dojo now has helped me cultivate the first of my Martial Arts Maxims: "Have patience with kids in the dojo. You used to be that annoying, too". Its tough to fit kids in at times, and not all of them will fit in. I do think its important for kids to have at least a few classes that are kids only, so they can be focused on as they should be, and not with and as the adults are all the time.
  17. I didn't know you tested one at a time, Bob. That's pretty cool. How long will a testing last for a student, on average? Do you have high ranks available for one-steps, bunkai, and sparring?
  18. That jump is quite the athletic feat, if I do say so myself. I'm not sure I could pull that off.
  19. You're welcome, Bob! I find these articles interesting at times.
  20. I also wonder, along these lines, doesn't Kyokushin katas differ from the way they are done in Shotokan? After all, Oyama learned them as a Shotokan practitioner, didn't he? Well, sine wave is a part of the forms that is done in various ITF schools. Some do a "full" sine wave, or a more "natural" sine wave. It just depends really on when the masters were trained by General Choi, really, before they broke away. Kusotare, thank you for your explanation of what "ryu" means. That really helps with understanding the whole process.
  21. Ok. If I get a chance to see it, I'll try to keep those hints in mind.
  22. And I as well. Its been great getting to work with you on staff, and you bring quality to the community.
  23. The numbers don't bother me so much, but I think its necessary to have an adequate amount of judges that can observe that number of students. If one judge has a mark next to every one of those students' names, then that's a mistake. He can't possibly realistically judge all of them. I think it would be better to break them up into smaller groups to better observe their performances, and give them a better opportunity to perform to their level, and not be worried about kicking the person in front of or behind them.
  24. Many think that if they are attacked, then they have free reign to do what every they want to the person who attacked, when in fact, this is not the case, and there is a point where you can cross a line from self-defense into aggressor, and be held liable for it, as well.
