the answer is simple...No. Kiai, is used to channel internal energy at a specific moment through an attack, to do more damage than normally possible.
-
So does your style require a lot of thinking??? I'm trying to understand, how do you know how effective it is in a street combat situation, because afterall, that's where it really counts. Let me see if I got it...basically, you learn a multitude of techniques from all systems, and use them to adapt to an opponent, as the fight progresses. So what are your concepts on fighting, and the different adaptations necessary when in a fight. Because as we all know a fight is unpredicatble anything can happen in a fight. BTW, how do you train??
-
when executed properly, the kiai, is used to add internal energy to a strike. Sure it may startle or surprise an opponent, but that frails in comparison to it's main purpose, which is to induce internal energy, and add it to an attack, making the effects more volital. But it must be done properly, a Kiai must come from your central, your "gut", otherwise it's just a scream or loud noise, and does nothing but make you sound funny.

Your style sounds very interesting, I want hear more, but I have a couple of questions. How long have you been doing this?? I'm just wondering, because, i'm just curious. It sounds very adaptable Have you tested this in a real street combat situation?? I really do want to hear more, you have my interest perked. I just want to know Have you ever had any formal training?? What is some philososphy your style has that you might want to share, to further our understanding.

Attitudes of the General Public
Jade_Lotus replied to MonkeyNinja's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I don't really care. People laugh or snicker at me..what does it matter? They don't know me...they know nothing about me...they are no one important to me. What they think matters not to me. I'm not that weak. I know myself and my abilities, i don't care about romo's that know nothing about me. I could care less! -
I want to introduce a great chinese martial art
Jade_Lotus replied to TigerKorea's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
sounds very interesting, ya I highly doubt that you will find anything in English on this guy or his art. You might find it interesting to know that many stories like that have also been lost in time. Back when MA was at it's humble beginnings or at least before the Mcdojo age, people like that were not uncommon, it's just too bad that they've been lost with time. -
Howdy! hope learn much, and have a good time.

I prefer a variety of music while I train. I don't like to train to heavy metal, but a few songs that aren't that heavy I can deal with. WOW! I'm not the only one who like Loreena Mckennitt and Yanni! But, I also really like to listen to Rocky music while I train, I use alot of intrumentals during certain parts of my training and the more upbeat music when I'm picking up the pace. But mostly I like alot of intrumentals, things that relax me and clear my mind for thought. It may be odd, but I can get more pumped with the right kind of intrumental and peaceful music, then I can with upbeat fast music. That may seem odd. I also love the crouching tiger, hidden dragon soundtrack too! I haven't seen Last of the Mohicans in a long time, but i think i remember liking the music, I'll have to check again. Anyhow, that's the type of music I train too.

not all blocks are effective. find the ones that are, you learn this through practice. Once you find them you must practice it with much diligence, if you have to think about the block in a real street confrontation, then you will NOT be successfull. Learn to recall it only on reflex. This is done through many many hours of dedication. Months, years, of training. Patience is a virtue, learn this well.

a punch is a punch and a kick is a kick. don't let the size of your opponent throw you off. He has vital areas as well. Of course as you would any type of confrontation, try at first to avoid it, try to get out of it. If that is not an option, then you must fight. It's simple bigger and stronger, does not mean better. If you are faster and more skilled than he his, then I don't care if hes 6'8" and 350lbs, his fight is already lost. But of course never underestimate any opponent. Basically size doesn't matter, just fight him. This has been my experience.

Why did you join the martial arts?
Jade_Lotus replied to LeaF's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My reason for studying the Martial arts is a simple one. the only reason I study is for defense, defense of myself as well as loved ones and those who need it(i.e the weak and innocent). That's it, that's my purpose for studying. No other purpose. -
I agree 100%

What Instant Messenger are you? Candy bar? Soda?
Jade_Lotus replied to Patrick's topic in General Chat
hahahaah I'm IRC!!!! Okay, so you're not really an instant messenger, but close enough. IRC isn't for those who can't keep up with fast fingers. Just thought I'd warn you. hahahaah I'm Crunchie!!! You're sweet at first, but like all good things, people get sick of you after a while. One good (or bad, depends how you look at it) thing though: you're not available in the US. As for the Third One I'm Ginger Ale! hahahahahaaha -
.....How effective do you think these are in a real street fight combat situation??? Have any of you ever executed a spinning or arial kick in a real street fight?? I've had a few experiences in which I haved used spinning kicks, and only 1 situation where I used an arial kick. And I was actually successfull at doing so. So let me know what ya'll think??

Jeff Speakman is the perfect weapon! Whaaaa!!! Chuks, like any weapon will wear with time and certain usage, all that you can do is make them out of the best materials and techniques possible. Then their life will be longer, and the amount of abuse they can take will increase.
-
I don't think that any one style would be the best. I've had a few experiences with this type of situation, I handled it with both kick and punches, alot of moving. The most important thing to remember is when you are being attacked by multiple opponent, when you knock someone down, they must not get back up. You can't afford to be doing paper attacks, and allow for each attacker to get up and come at you again. I have seen this time and time again. Also, if you know that the attack is imminent, then make the first move, put yourself at the advantage. Don't narrow your gaze and limit your abilites with just one style. Each has benefits. To be strictly a stand up fighter, and not train extensively in ground combat then you set yourself up for the unexpected. I don't study any style, but i hope this helps.

what you don't realize Kensai, is that there is NO quick low down, of what has been talked about here. It's far too in depth. I wasn't trying to come across as a jerk, Ya I was being smart, but I was trying to do it in a friendly way. Guess, you're just too serious to realize that. I was just being goofy that's all. You need to relax.
-
Hey, kensai, i have an idea..why don't you read the posts?! I think that maybe this will help you figure out what's going on. I'm pretty sure, but not 100%. Hope that helps.

Does everyone hate their gi/dobok?
Jade_Lotus replied to rabid hamster's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
ummm, well, I don't own Gi. But i have worn them before, I don't care for them, and i would never train in one. I usually just train in sweats or a t-shirt, and sometimes street clothes too. but mostly just sweats. I don't feel that Gi's should be used in training, actuall street clothes are not as tough, or rigid as Gi's they're not made to be grabbed and used to throw people, they don't have extra room in the stride sewn into them, or extra stitching to make them tougher. Grabbing a Gi and throwing some one by their Gi, is far easier that grabbing someone by their t-shirt and trying to throw them...quite simply it just tears. Gi's train and condition you to execute your techniques in a uniform made for fighting, in a dojo this is ideal, all your classmates are wearing them. This however is not true for a street fight, people don't don't go around wearing Gi's or clothing designed for fighting. Quite simply Gi's make it easier to control you opponent by their clothing, and people are taught their techniques against an opponent wearing a Gi. This is misleading, and will prepare you to execute your techniques with effeicieny only against an opponent who is wearing one. This is very dangerous for a martial artist. Anyhow, hope this helps.
