What constitutes a Master? Does the word even have any relevance when pertaining to a martial artist. Something I think about from time to time. When it relates to Chinese martial arts the term can mean many things. It can mean in some general sense an accomplished martial artist recognized by his peers with many years in his chosen art, or in many instances it's used as a self proclaim title bestowed on by himself as a marketing tool. Myself, I would feel embarrassed to call myself a Master. In the west it seems if you want to be taken seriously you have to be a Master from the mountains of Wu Dong or some other mystical place. With a lineages going back at least a few hundred years if you want to be considered legit. Otherwise, your looked at as a quack, made up martial artist, or con man. Westerns to a large extent have bought into this and have passed on this Philosophy to their own students which becomes a vicious cycle. I'm all for tradition. There are many aspects of tradition that are great like the family structure of the traditional kung fu school, and respect for your sihing and Sifu and the ritual of discipleship. As well as the passing on the art that has been handed down to you, but what I'm not into is all the baggage, mysticism, and politics that comes alone with it. Sifu Michael McIlwrath

Glad you liked the video. What I mean by " natural " many wing chun guys when they train in Chi Sao will have programed attacks and counters. In this videos it was unrehearsed and completely spontaneous. Your MA style sounds great - is it similar to any other MA? Wing Chun is a southern Chinese short range combat system there are others like white crane, Jook Lum praying Mantis, White eyebrow and others but Wing Chun Chi Sao training is highly more advanced IMO putting a lot more emphasis on this type of training.

A short descriptive video on the MCM Wing Chun perspective on the differences between Jun Ma or turning stance, commonly used in the Ip Man lineage -vs- using turning waist which is a alternative method found in the MCM Wing Chun system as well as in the Fut Sao Wing Chun lineages. This shows how both methods are valid and how they should be applied at certain situations.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DFLUMvG7zQ

Inside Pak Sau

sorry about that. I hate redoing videos. I perfer just to move on to something else, although I'm sure I will do something similar in another video.. -
A favorite technique of mine, I demonstrate on how I apply the inside Pak Sao technique in Chi Sau and in the Lop Sau drills. Some Chunners say using the pak Sau on the inside is wrong an you can get trapped easy, but I have found it to be very effective to the contrary. Hope you enjoy the video. SORRY but the video is not framed correctly but I believe you will be able to make out most of what's going on in the video despite the fact. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lW2H0TqCXaI

Nicely done..You used Pak da-slap block and punch. I do it almost the same way just using a shorter stance to get in closer to control and disrupt the opponent balance and position,so it makes it hard for him to counter. Hey thanks for the compliment about how I used it, you clearly know what you are doing so thanks. I'm in phoenix by the way, I actually found a guy downtown. I already made contact and got info on pricing and classes. Going to give it a try next month and see how it goes, thank you! Let us know how it went..Good luck with your training..

Really awsome. I have some basic wing chun training and would love to take on more but finding places are hard for me. This is really great stuff here. Imho wing chun is the single most beautiful martial art I have ever seen. When I chose styles I didn't choose styles lol. What I mean is I learned what I could from whoever, at times it was very scattered and mixed but I learned to the best of my ability. My main background is in karate/The Kwon Do becasue of these ideas, but also becasue I chose the teachers of styles as well. Can't say enough about wing chun though. I'd love to get more in-depth for sure, it just draws me in, pure beauty IMHO. Very nice videos by the way. Thank you very much glad you liked the video..I hope you can find a good teach in Wing Chun..If you tell me where your from I might be able to recommend a sifu.

Why would some call, Secrets of the systems?? I don't believe in "Secrets" of any MA. Why? Students need to be informed, and in the information, ways to protect oneself shouldn't be kept "Secrets" from the student body. Or are the Secrets to keep ones opponent unaware...uninformed??!! Chinese martial arts traditionally have been plagued with secrets ever since the Chinese brought their Kung Fu to the west. It is s sort of play on words. Not to be taken so seriously..What I show is more of the inner working on how I teach..

Thanks a lot CredoTe for your input.[/quote My pleasure.... Thank you for all the info and videos you post on WC / kung fu. They're reminiscent of my Hung Gar training... your welcome..I also know a little Hung Gar. I have been training it for almost 2 years. It has made my WC much better and have a deeper understanding of Southern short hand.
