  1. Welcome!
  2. hey thanks everyone! Oh, and I'm not worrying about finding one- I'm not looking to buy for a couple of months anyway (after I recover financially from Christmas), and I wouldn't even have time to play much until this semester is over, but I tried one out at my cousins, and I'm definitely getting it. Thanks!
  3. Does any one have this? I'm thinking about getting one for my fiance and me, but I don't really like video games that much, but I liked DDR (and unfortunate WOW) and I think that we could have a good time playing this. Any opinions?
  4. I already got my presents I'm bad... I got one of those picture frames that change pictures, which I bought at 5 am day after thanksgiving, and my mom paid me back for, and a music editing station from my fiance. Also, I think my grandma got me a new sweater, but I can't tell, because since I was 10 I've been banned from touching my gifts, because of the oh-so-useful talent of being able to guess them right.
  5. good book that is generally about self-defense is "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin Debecker
  6. hehe my instructor ALWAYS forgets the belts for a couple of months... just some people are forgetful... or have been training so long that a few too many punches to the head may have caused sporadic amnesia.
  7. I like club shirts- its a camaraderie thing- but the "i'm a black belt" ones, I also think may bring about the crazies.
  8. when i was a kid I got bored of karate. mom wasn't thrilled because she'd sunk a lot of money, for us, into my training, so she said I had to give it a couple more months, then if I still wanted to I could quit. over the next few weeks, she slyly rented the karate kids, the ninja turtles, and the 3 ninjas (yeh, even that one)... by the end of the two months I had a renewed interest because i remembered why i thought it was cool in the first place and noticed when some of the techniques were wrong in the movies, making me realize that I'd learned a lot. but i think it really depends on the kid- why'd he want to do it in the beginning?
  9. Go to walmart- in the hair and stuff aisle, there are tons. Just be sure to get what you want- level 1 lasts a couple of days, level 2 a few weeks and level 3 is pretty permanent. also, look on the side of the boxes for if your current color is....., then it will look ......after the dye. with little boxes showing the colors. It may be light brown for someone with dark hair or blonde hair, but not so much for people who already have brown. Just my tips
  10. Yeh, but he's not leaving the community, just this one position (the more visible, yes, but not necessarily the most important)
  11. Yeh, i was following too- but he has a lot on his plate, teaching self-defense to LAPD, and running his own gym. http://www.bjmuta.com/
  12. Cool, yeah satin and silk are probably not best because we grapple sometimes. Thanks! I'll check it out.
  13. I've always bought crappy belts, but I want to buy a nice one- any suggestions?
  14. Yeh, for Jiu Jitsu, you will need a Jiu Jitsu or Judo (sometimes a few bucks cheaper) top, here are some : http://www.martialartssupplies.com/judoaikido.html http://www.judogis.com/ http://www.karatedepot.com/judogi.html http://www.judoinfo.com/gi.htm http://www.brazilianfightwear.com/store/stores_app/store.asp?Store_Id=117&page_id=5 http://www.jiujitsugi.com/ http://www.nhbgear.com/Jiu-Jitsu-Gis-c-5.html And if your Shorin Ryu gi is actually a judo/jiujitsu gi, then, yeh, they'll probably want you to take the patches off.
  15. Welcome back
  16. Good Suggestions Night Owl I'd say tell her that you are sorry that you upset her and that you didn't mean to. Tell her that you never want to make her feel bad, but you're just a person and you messed up. Then look at her all timid like and tell her that you love her. Also, hot chocolate.
  17. Like bushidoman said, go check out the schools around you and see what you can get in to- if you are in a city this is going to be much easier Good luck!
  18. I'm in agreement with the people here- check it out and see if one has elements that you like.
  19. Good luck!
  20. Hehe, well that makes a little more sense
  21. This depends on your goals. To be a well-rounded fighter, yes you should probably also take a standing art, but if that is a lifetime goal and not a, win some mma competition by the time I'm 25 goal (which is a valid life choice), then two grappling arts at once will work out. At one point I was doing BJJ, Judo, and a striking art (and not so hot in my classes) which was nice, but I've found that its ok to do this one for a couple of years and if it sticks, keep it, if not move on. With Judo, when I tore my meniscus, I couldn't do a lot of the techniques, so I concentrated on my standing, and when the striking class conflicted with my schedules, I concentrated on BJJ. Just my ramblings, but overall my opinion is to go for both.
  22. Interesting! From a self-defense point of view, though, doesn't that make it kind of useless, if it only works on the willing? Again, I've seen a few things on him, and only his students and friends go down. Of course that makes it a neat party trick, but as far as a combat art or martial art, it seems to be without.
  23. Yeh, there have been a bunch of stories done on that guy and I'm pretty sure that it has never worked on someone who wasn't his student or friend.
