Bad anime endings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drunken Monkey replied to King of Fighters's topic in General Chat
well, crouching tiger was just one book from a series and that character wasn't exactly the hero of the books but you're right, tragedy is kinda popular... part of this is because of the historical implications of tragic heroes in china. there aren't any real heroes or villains in them books. just people of different situations. but um, anime are japanese and the don't have the same culture... oh and just a little note. it seems that in the states, you use the term "asian" to describe everyone from that part of the world. however, we use asian to describe people of indian/pakistani/bengali etc etc origin. the chinese/japanese/thai etc etc are called "far eastern" or "oriental". -
or perhaps i was hoping that i wasn't talking to some fool...

you say he is not flexible? have you seen him train? have you seen the things he can do? you say he is out of shape? compared to who/what? i know i say not to judge from the films but get hold of "gorgeous". it's not a brilliant film but it has some cracking fight sequences and you can see some of the the things he can do (like full stretch press ups etc etc...) but then if that is what you think then he has done his job well because he, on screen, is not not meant to be some kind of super human. you say "somebody who deserves it". does this mean you don't think jackie deserves his success? you say that a lot of his opponents on screen can kick higher. is this your judge of good technique and skill? you say he is not realistic. my question is what is realistic in films? he creates fight scenes. these have rhythm, pace, beat, flow. realism has nothing to do with it. if you then say that his version of a fight scene for a film is bad then i'd like to ask you to name a good reasitic fight scene. i've always said that the normal, non martial arts public will never appreciate good technique because they don't know that they are watching them.

really well, when you talk about drop kicks, you kinda won my arguments for me... but really, you gotta stop saying dumb stuff, sooner or later, people will get tired of it.
-
about as serious as any other 13 yr old kid i guess
-
well, like i say, there is an easy way to find out. look at who owns the character.
-
well, that's a lesson for you then... in the future do not make dumb comments if you cannot defend your answer.

a counter is a counter why on earth would someone counter with a move that wouldn't work?

unless they step back...

and that would be good because...?

What to do about mean teachers in HS
Drunken Monkey replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in General Chat
so you see you teacher in bars and clubs? how old are you again? listen, i don't know what your teachers are like but i'm sure that they have more improtant things in their lives other than rowdy kids who don't appreciate what they are trying to teach you guys. yes i agree, some people are just *. you say he is mean but how is he mean? let us know, give better examples. and hitting him isn't going to do anything except get you chucked out. one thing i have learnt is that outside you can do nothing. if you want to change things you have to be inside and you have to play by their rules to the letter. if he is really not a good teacher then complain. if everyone knows he is bad then everybody complain. i don't know what it is like in the states but schools here in britain cannot ignore that many letters from students. if all you can think about is beating the guy up then i think that says a lot about you... -
Ever had to use your MA in a real sreet fight

isn't a scary thought that you guys live in a world where you feel like you have to carry a weapon around with you just to do the shopping? i've read a lot of your stories and sometimes i wonder if it is really that bad over there in the states. a lot of you have stories of fights, attacks, muggings etc etc but i can honestly say that none of that has ever happened to me. i have never faced a knife or a gun and the worst thing was being hassled when i was a kid. i understand the whole gun thing is really different compared to here in britain but does everyone have a gun in the states? you ask what kind of place we are that doesn't allow pocket knives. well, you have to look at it in context. if you are stopped by the police, there is probably a reason (well, at least here there would be...). and if they find a knife on you then you can and most probably will be arrested. their argument is basically, "what do you need to carry a knife for?" one point was that a knife was for defence. are you really attacked everyday? are you really under threat every day? i could understand that it is for IN CASE you are attacked but then i ask does it have to be a knife? does it have to be something that can kill or worse still, be used to kill you? another point was to level the playing field, so to speak. the only problem i have with this is that yes, while it does make things even.however, what would make a mugger more likely to shoot you, you giving your wallet or you pulling a gun? some have said that they wouldn't give their wallet up and would fight for it, but with a gun? is your money worth more than someone's life? -

guys, lets look at it all in another light. at your martial arts club, what happens if you are late? what happens if you do not listen? what happens if you are insulting? what happens if you keep getting things wrong? what happens if you only turn up once a month? -

hey, does anyone know if the manga "blade of the immortal" was ever made into anime? -
you say ip ching, from ron heimberger? i trained for about six months with one of sifu heimberger's students in london a couple of years ago. showed me a new perspective on how to do chi sau. very "forceful" and very different to my usual "light touch" chi sau... excellent stuff. all the best in your training.

um, anime is the term used to describe japanese animation... i think the question should be, is it a real character from a cartoon, or something for the advert.

i hope it kinda explains why i get so annoyed when there are so many fakes and wannabes on forums talking about things that they have no real knowldge of... i know it shouldn't bother me because i should expect it. but it is kind of insulting to our arts and to our intelligence when some kid who knows nothing makes stupid comments. i just feel that somehow, even this little thing, the fakes on the internet, all go into dragging martial arts into the dirt. maybe i'm just too angry. or it could just be my aching shoulders/legs/knuckles/elbows (wallbag again...) making me a bit cranky.

ok, cheers... need to do a bit more reading...
