I think the show Naruto is alright and has it's moments. I agree that the Japanese version is much better, but I'm a much bigger fan of the manga. Not as many silent stares with dramatic music in each episode. I barely watch anime, mainly just what's on Adult Swim. I'm a big fan of Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist. Great writing there.

What's your favorite MA Anime?
MizuRyu replied to lordtariel's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I don't watch anime much anymore. Back in the day I used to love anime, but it's waned in recent years. I do however love Fullmetal Alchemist, which has some GREAT fight scenes. Like when he fights the guy who coats himself in the blue tough stuff (forgot his name).. it looked like he was using Tiger style... heck, I'd put my money on that observation. Dragonball Z (before the whole kid Buu thing) was of course, a classic. After that it just got ridiculous. -
I have both a DS Lite and a PSP and love them both, but I prefer the DS myself.

Kung Fu

I've learned the hard way that you could see what you think is the greatest style in the world, go to the school, and get a brick of disappointment dropped on your head when you realize that the instructor has NO idea what he's doing. Instead of looking for a specific style, look for a great teacher. I've seen Tae Kwon Do (which usually has a poor fighting reputation) students that could snap you in half, just because their teacher knows what he's doing. Then, there's the Cyber Kung Fu thing I remember seeing. Of all the tapes/instructional things I've seen that one is the most in depth, diagrams, videos, multiple angles, and all sorts of stuff. But, it's still a home program. If you wanted to invest just to see if the art is for you or to pick up a handful of useful things (leopard strikes and whatnot), I guess it'd be worth a shot. Look in your local phone book, write down some addresses, and go dojo-hopping. Watch a couple classes at as many places as possible, weigh it out, and choose. Best strategy I've found. -
It depends on your style and level of proficiency in my opinion. I know a family of killing machines that knows only one law "never throw the first punch". I've yet to see a single person who can best even the youngest brother.

Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun

Indeed, relaxation is probably the biggest roadblock for many newbies. Don't get frustrated with yourself though, that'll just make you more tense. Just open your mind and let it flow. -
Does anyone else here listen to really loud music while they work out? I tend to crank some old Strapping Young Lad, Korn, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Carnal Forge and the like when I'm pumpin iron.

I speak English, French and Japanese, and I'm currently studying Mandarin.

Well, look at it THIS way. Before the discovery of radiation and all it's levels, it was a ludicrous, mystical idea. Who says we know everything? The box in which the human mind thinks has always been notoriously small. We think we know everything, only to get slapped in the face time and time again by a new discovery. We already know what Ki isn't, but we're still trying to find out what it is, IF it is.

Is this Right ro Wrong for a street fight?
MizuRyu replied to TKDguy's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sometomes so, sometimes not so. In MOST cases, between inexperienced fighters, yes, the first strike usually determines the victor. -
My cats get into boxing matches, and my 11 year old fat cat has a BRUTAL right hook. Knocks the cocky little one into a loop. Quite hilarious. I think I'm starting to see why the Chinese warriors of old would look at Cranes, Snakes, Monkeys, Tigers, Mantises, etc, and emulate them. They all carry wisdom in combat. However, they are born with those tools, we are born with ours.

Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun

When I started Wing Chun the one handed paak, taan, paak, taan chain punch control blew my mind. Now, a year later I see the same thing in newcomers. I love Wing Chun because of how fluid and effortless it can be when you get the hold of it. It's a VERY powerful system in the right hands. -
I honestly have no fear of death. I learned 2 years back that I had 3 major brain aneurysms that could burst at the drop of a hat, and for some reason it didn't really effect me at all. My mother had one burst a decade ago and she was pronounced medically dead but came back, and told me all about what to expect. The only thing it did for me was help me realize how precious and fragile life is, and the time we spend living is all the time we have, there are no 2nd chances. I do what I believe is best for myself and everyone around me, because in death you live on through your contribution to the lives of others. Fearing death is pointless. It's part of the grand cycle, it's a reality for everything that exists, not just living things. Everything fades in time.

I think a good example of Qi is nothing more than energy. Energy comes in so many forms; forms you can see, forms you can't, kenetic, potential, radiation, light, heat... it's in everything. Humans have an amazing ability to consciously generate power by focusing their energy into a single point at a split second in time. A good side kick exerts about 3000 pounds of force in pressure, in kenetic energy. Suppose someone found a way to move this through the air? Through objects? Or through a medium we can't fathom (space, the plane on which light travels, things that don't 'exist'). Humankind has a very strict set of guidelines in their thought process. We're STILL getting over the 'eternity gap', coming to terms with the meaning of eternity, even though we KNOW it exists, we still rationalize it. Same with Qi in my belief. It is nothing more than nature. Ueshiba on the other hand was a very peaceful person, a model example of a human being. I doubt that he would have any 'evil' intention or intervention. He was just an old man who knew a lot about what he was doing.

He's insane is what he is. He's a streetfighter over a UFC competitor. Lots of nasty underhanded things are his specialty. He's a proponent of using your environment, such as plowing a guy's skull into the corner of a table following a knee to the gut. He's also big. Very big. Funny too. Good man.

I didn't get to see it but I really wanted to. I would like to see a multiple part series like MBAKM but more scientific. Focusing on an art at a time and whatnot.
