  1. Hey, I know I guy who I believe is a golden gloves boxer and I think it is just the organization as mentioned before. McNerny
  2. Hey, I think the fight between David Loiseau and Charles McCarthy with punches on the ground after Loiseau spinning back kicked him and followed up with the flying knee. I'm not positive though, I will look the fight up. McNerny
  3. Hey, Shotokan is a great style too but you are not likely to find one that fights bareknuckle with full contact. In my school we wear gloves and but in the higher classes we can punch and kick to the body with full contact. It isn't quite as extreme as Kyokushin but I like it way more than no contact. McNerny
  4. Hey, Do you have any interest in some form of grappling? I would recomend it to compliment kung fu and go kan ryu (assuming it's also a striking style). McNerny
  5. Hey, This is slightly off topic but I have to share this story. Just today at wrestling one of our wrestlers that has cauliflower got it busted open. It bled all over the side of his face and on his shirt. After he washed it off he put gauze over it and wrapped his head with tape. He returned to the mat and kept wrestling. Moral of the story: cauliflower ear is not cool McNerny
  6. Hey, Some street fights also begin in clinches where one of the people is grabbing or trying to choke the other. Chances are the punch from such close range would not have knockout power. Plus, many grapplers can use the clinch to set up takedowns and throws. From the clinch, the grappler against an untrained brawler would have the obvious advantage. McNerny
  7. Hello, When I told my sensei I was going to begin wrestling he encouraged it because it supplements karate with its grappling. Since we don't do a great deal of grappling in karate, wrestling is really helping. Besides it being good grappling training, it's also great conditioning which helps when doing seemingly endless rounds of kumite. McNerny
  8. That was pretty funny McNerny

Hello, We use them at my karate school. McNerny
  10. Hey, Some things you can practice at home: your stance, shooting in on an imaginary opponent, level changing, rolls, for your sprawls you could use up-downs to practice getting your legs back and hips down (these will also help with conditioning) If you are already not too sore from practice do push-ups, sit-ups, leg lifts, bridges, squats etc. any body weight exercises are good That is all I can think of right now. Hope this helps. McNerny
  11. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a joke or not... McNerny
  12. Knott's Scary Farm is awesome. McNerny
  13. Hello, As it was mentioned, rolling around with someone with friends their to back him up isn't a great idea, but we are talking about the UFC and MMA events. Obviously grappling has proven itself effective in the ring. But it has its place on the street as well. McNerny
  14. Hey, Check around online and read up on each art if you haven't already done so. That may help you make a decision. As for the a little overweight thing, don't worry about it. As Willannem said, you'll get in shape either way. McNerny
  15. Hey, I am going to give the generic response that you should check out each gym/dojo. But if I were in your shoes and didn't like Shotokan, I would choose Judo. McNerny
  16. Hey, I have a Century gi and a Kamekazi Spirt. I have a set of Macho Lighting sparring gear which I mabye used 5 times. The only thing I used from the whole set was the gloves since it is optional to wear shin guards or headgear when we spar at my dojo. Normally I just use the Century cloth gloves (I'm not sure what they are called). And for wrestling I have a pair of Asics shoes, a head guard, and a super cool singlet. McNerny
  17. Congratulations McNerny

  21. Hello, Although I wasn't alive then, I heard that a "Karate Kid era" was started. This may have contributed to senseis realizing the financial gain possible from opening a McDojo...but that is just assumption. McNerny
  22. Hey, There is a possibilty that he was just using that to increase hype for himself to promote his new movie, Kumite (which last I heard isn't going to be finished). I don't know how well he would do either. I don't follow K-1 too closely, but would van Damme be an old man? McNerny
