  4. Lee should have already told you the anser in your study of JKD. To have style by not having style. Lee was looking for true MA not tied to style and by his later life he had even went away from JKD because it was a style. Despite being a style with no style. LOL. Each of us have our own MA. The style we choose to bring it out shapes us to some degree but in the end we should all be able to move into the true MA that Lee was talking about.
  5. KK75 you change schools more than I change my socks. LOL... Not to pick on you but your in what I call limbo. When people start with me that have rank in other styles I start them at white belt. (9th Kuy for us) However because they should have a good foundation I will test them a bit sooner than normal. Just give them the time to catch up with the way we do things. Not that our way is right its just our way. LOL. So in our class they may wear a lower rank than what they hold but I make the point to always reconize their other rank. By giving them some authority over other people etc... But a brown belt in TKD will never come to me and get tested for a Black Belt in Shotokan without going throgh the requriments needed. This is why I don't think one should ever change styles until they got a black blet. It just makes things so much simpler. Black belts are universal. Meaning if you a black belt you know something about everything even i fyou don't know a lot about it. Color belts are always in flux. Mean a Blue Belt may be early in one style an high in another. Some styles use dozens of strips and stuff and only one or 2 color belts. Then a certin rank in a style like BJJ is not going to do too well in a style like TKD just because of the nature of the art. However some do work well together like differant styles of Karate. When I went to college and trained in ATK. I always wore my black belt but I did the lower rank requirments with the lower ranking kids in class. My Sensei did not think it was right to make me wear a color belt but we both agreed I did not understand his style as his upper students did when I joined. If your a black belt I say wear your rank but train as a new student. If you a color belt I say put the white belt back on and work with your Sensei to get caught up. Don't doubt your techinqes o. Although we have never met I have faith your a good Martial Artist. Don't get caught up in rank. Its better to be a great low rank than an ok high rank. You will do fine.
  6. Depending on who is involved. 2 guys a punch to the head or a push in the chest one or the other. In a Bar the punch in school the push. A guy picking on a girl. The choke or the wrist grap. A girl picking on a guy the slap or shot to the groin. 2 girls the slap or a hair pull *which I guess would fit into the charge and tackle group.
  7. Just new found freedom no big deal. Give it a few days. They have had all this rage built up for 30 years and now they can say how the feel. I think its good to see that they care. Our boys done a good job and everyone is thankful.
  8. Sometimes the best block is not to block. We kick sometimes hopping the other guy will block it cause your leg is so strong you can hurt the others guys arms if you force him to block everyitng. On the other hand if they kick full force and miss a few times it takes a lot out of you. Think about it.
  9. Welcome
  10. My taking on that is it laying in the floor or you throwing it in the floor. If it touches while your putting it on by mistake or setting no big deal.
  11. I wear the pants to the gym a lot. I usually take the top off and just wear a T or Sweat Shirt however today I wore the whole thing home. Well I took the belt off. But yeah. No big deal.... I don't wear it to go pick up girls O. LOL

  17. Intresting I agree that the hammer first is more powerful and safer than the backfist. Thus you would think that would be a safer action. The outer bone of the forarm is pretty strong. and the skin is usually pretty tough from always being in contact with anything from talbes and other things we rest our arms on. So I don't see any great danger in blocking with the outside of the arm. (hammer fist motion) The article made commetns about baseball bats and MT kicks. Well No one should ever block a bat with their arm. LOL. I mean come on karate is great but your not superman. Trapping and Distancing is more the things you need to learn when facing a swinging weapon. As far at MT kicks or any powerful kick anyone who knows anything about MA will never teach you to block a kick with arm (force on force) Legs will always win no matter how big a person is. Again trapping and the use of leg blocks are the way to block kicks. As far as the outside block motion I agree that it is a useless block and I too teach the Knife Hand before I teach it. In fact I only teach it because it is in certin kata. When I work sparring I do teach the backfist as the outside block or again the use of a knife hand. Only other change I do with my down block is to use an open hand. Meaning I block with the palm and the bottom of the forarm. This allows you to grab and makes the block more of a smack on your part and less painful. LOL
  18. We are lazy. People quit if its hard. No one wants to be the bad guy. Take your pick
  19. If you drop the MOAB in Baghdad you kill civilians and the US don't do that if we can help it.

  21. Kata is a half way point between just working basic and sparring. It makes basics fun and sparring safe.
