Another note Other things to come into play such as. 1. He is going to rape you gf, sister, mom, etc... 2. Is their a big crowd arround... Mean may he miss you and shoot someone not involved. 3. Do you know them... Just some other things to think about. -

Yeah I understand what your saying. Someone pulls a gun then all it takes is a flick of the finger and its bye bye sweet world. This is just the normal speech I give classesn when asked about it. Then I show how to catch bulletts in my teeth. LOL -

Hands up and do what they wanted me to until I realize one of 2 things. 1. They were going to let me go after they took my money and car keys. (in which case you don't act) 2. They are going to kill you reguardless. (In which case you take you best shot when the opening appears) Big thing is to always be calm. Remember most people do not want to kill you. They see the gun as a power play but don't want to use it. Now you never know how nuts they are or if they a high or drunk which may lead to them doing things they may not do usualy but in general I think its safe to say people don't want to kill people. Espically if they are just after your money. -
Unless your trying to make money I like small classes. You can see everyone and work with them on a one on one basis. You have more room and everyone gets more reps in.

kicking with the ball of your foot or the instep?
G95champ replied to Shotokan_Fighter's topic in Karate
If I know Im going to be able to land a good round kick to someones ribs then I will use the ball of the foot becaue its going to drive deeper. However I hardly throw my roundhouse that high. I use it for low kicks as I said above. I am constantly kicking the floor as I walk arround the dojo with the ball of my foot. However the front snap is prob. my most used kick. Again both are good each has a purpose and a place it may work better. I just find the shin/instep more useful for myself. -
Yeah its not about doing crunches and set up's as it is about body fat. Unless you want a job in a rap video or on baywatch its not a big deal.

Good Deal I had always heard the saying as Those who are smart and runs away lives to fight on another day. No shame in running and as far as your mom freezing well that happens reguardless of training. You can never get the same effect in class as you will get in real life. Its like practice and a game no matter how many times you do it your still not ready. Hope you had a Happy 4th

kicking with the ball of your foot or the instep?
G95champ replied to Shotokan_Fighter's topic in Karate
I explain the ball of the foot idea on the round kick. Howver I was taught and I teach to use the instep or shin. Its a bigger target for you to hit with and you don't have to worry about if you have shoes on or not. Its good to know both because the ball of the foot really hurts but for kicking in general espically low kicks the shin will do much more damage IMO. -
I hear ya Kensai ROCK ON..... LOL

No not fair Monkeygirl because Wolverine is held back by the other X-Men Geeks. LOL Wolverine in a movie by himself would be much more exciting IMO. LOL Spiderman does have better jokes o. Facts are if Wolverine hit Spiderman with the claws its dead spider. Spiderman can tie him up and all I guess but he has to beat him to death with his hands and we all know Wolverine can take a beating. Spiderman may win the fight based on pts but Wolverine can kill him with one shot which is something Spiderman can not do...

Agreed that you need to learn to fall before you let you class go wild with sweeps. I teach them and use them a lot. We work most sweeps of a cressant or outside cressant motion. Our target is the ankle. I also teach the low roundhouse (MT) which lots of times has the same result as a good sweep. We do, do the spinning sweep some from a hook kick motion but its pretty dangerous for both involved only our upper ranks do it. As far as counters Yes. However we do teach the guard and mount as well so we do go the ground and lots of times a person who has been swept will be able to pull the other person down with them if the counter is not very quick. I myself and a huge fan of sweeps and other trips/takedowns. The wave kick in Tekki Shodan is a good sweep as the the circle motion at the end of Bassai Sho. Any turn such as the mid line turns in Heian Shodan can be views as a spinning sweep. Most kata's will have move that can be taught as a sweep if you look hard enough to find it. Hope that helped.

Someone has read Clan of the Cave Bear to many times. LOL. I don't know about the inner animal but their is a zone that you hear about athletes going into when they can't do no wrong. The ability to control that at will is something to the effect a good Martial Artist can do.

O yeah can't go wrong with the Rocky IV soundtrack.... LOL

Jiu-Jitsu

Funakoshi got a lot of his Shotokan ideas from Judo so maybe that would be a good place to look into. -
Yes However I do not cross the 2. MA teaches a lot of good Christian values such as respect, honor, controling pride, etc. I know many MA's who mix the 2 and preach and teach. Thats fine and good but I do my best to keep them seperate. I think religon is a private thing and as much as I would like to see everyone follow Jesus Christ its something people have to do at their own time and I will not push anyone into it durring a MA class.

I try and always build up. I give as much as I can even if it did not look better I try and make them feel the more you do it the better it gets. I have trained with the low praise approach as well. It also has its good points but you work and work and don't feel like your making any ground but once you get patted on the back you like YES>>> SO to each his own.
