I got the 1924 tape of G. Funakoshi and they are training in well (underware) a lot. I can't wait to read Sai's link cause I don't know.
  2. IF I were going to write something I just get a card to go with it.
  3. I don't use music in the dojo but as a football coach I get nervous before the game if I don't hear some AC/DC or Metallica or Godsmack in the CD player. I hate when one of the guys brings in some rap cause that means we usually play like crap. LOL.
  4. I like to walk away.... LOL No really Im a striker however I have great respect for grappeling and wish I knew more about it. But if I had my choice I'd rather KO him and go on about my way. LOL
  5. It took me 3 years and about 3 months.
  6. See what styles are taught then look at price vs number of classes a week. Then talk to people in the class and see what works for you.

Well it could be 1. The person you are working with is redirecting his punch or kick. 2. It could be your to slow. 3. Could be your waiting on the count instead of his fist move. 4. Yes it could be you just need more reps doing it. Shifiting is very had to get right. In and out, left and right, in and right out and left, blah blah blah blah. It just takes time...
  8. Yeah I do the same. I usually go into clubs and asking about signing up to see what types of lines they feed me.
  9. Well the 8th Dan should have told you a lot unless he was 80 years old. 5th or 6th is as high as any avg. person can get in all reality. Lots of times it not how much you know its how much you understand.

Shifting is what will seperate good students of karate from bad ones. Its one thing to shift and find the open spot when your told to in class but its another finding it for yourself when sparring.
  11. I have always been a pretty calm and collective guy but I would say MA has helped me walk away from things that in the past may have gotten me in trouble.
  12. Each have pros and cons Wood is great but it does get slick espically when it gets wet. Carpet is ok except for the rug burns you get on your feet from time to time. Mats I don't like. Sure its great if you are working throws and take downs but I have troulbe shifting on them cause my feet tend to stick. Tile not as good as wood and more slick. Stone as in Concrete sucks but if thats all you got then hey. Ive done it several times. It kills my joints. Ground as long as the grass is cut and its not muddy its pretty good.
  13. I love it.... Bruce Lee felt it was one of the best weapons as well. So if Bruce liked it, it had to be good right.
  14. At least 3 months but more if you not ready. No sooner.
  15. To help me become a better football player however I would be lieing if I said I did not want to do it always. Once I was in I was hooked.
  16. Sounds fun
  17. Its about honor....
  18. People don't hit and you can work on your speed without fear of hitting someone. Both need to be done IMO...
  19. Yeah teaching history, coaching football and teaching karate I have a blast.
  20. WOW LOL Adult Classes In the past Kids and Womens SD. Must be nice to teach in a big city. LOL
  21. I thouhgt Leo was a jerk lol telling the others what to do do all the time and getting mad cause they did not do it his way. Raf was my second fav because he was just a smart butt. MA was ok but too goofy. Don was the man o. I might add I was a bit older when they became popular so maybe thats why Don and Raf were my picks.
  22. The style (masters) developed years ago is just a base to get started on. All changed their art as they went along. Much like the US Constution the Founders knew they did not know everything so they made it possilbe to change as the times changed. This is why it is called martial arts. If it were set in stone as right or wrong it would be martial science.
  23. How can you pay for lessons up to your black belt? That could be 2 years or 20 years depending on how fast you learn. Please explain to me how that is th case.
