    The End

Work on what you know at home like they said. Karate once started only ends with death.
  2. Yeah depending on the association you are with.
  3. I use as much Jap. in class that I can however its not a big deal IMO. Because I always have to say it in Eng. as well. LOL.
  4. I don't like the idea of contracts. If your a good teacher they will stay in class.
  5. welcome
  6. It will change from school to school and style to style. For the most part you will see one kata per belt at least in the early stages.
  7. welcome
  8. Welcome
  9. What a Game we lost 24-17 but Wisc. is very good and we held our own. Little Brother played very well. He only missed one series on offense just to get another kid some PT. Very proud.
  10. Amen to that Ben. Speed plus techinque will give you power.
  11. My students have to be 16. IMO thats the age you drive then thats the age you wear a black belt. Both are require great responsibility and both are deadly weapons.
  12. Wish I could do that! How long did it take you to get to that level? What kick(s) do you use when you do that? Hope you don't mind me asking you questions--I'm just interested. Any hints will be gratefully recieved! Regards, Bart the Lover My step behind side thrust and my spinning back kick both. First of all I have big legs and hips. I lifted weights all in HS and college along with playing football and trainging in karate. I did lots of squats and leg presses not to metniton the low stance shotokan makes you do so my power is 2 fold i guess. There is a differance in making the big swing and lifting it. Almost anyone can kick a bag and push it to the celling with muscle but Im refering to making contact and the bag lifts. I have broke several ball and chains from my celling because the chain dropped and popped out. 100lbs bag is not that big of a deal. Lots of guys in our dojo have done it I guess Shotokan focus on power has a lot to do with it. But as far as how to build that power it comes from weight training, low stances, and developing speed. Because speed is power. The faster you are the more power you have and if you hae any muscle to go with that speed you can generate a lot of FORCE.
  13. Everything Its not as far as a lot of MMA would have you think. The balance, speed, timming, combos, carido, focus, shifting, etc all play huge factors in a real fight.
  14. Hello Im from Gilbert and teach at he Larry Joe Harless Center. Logan is about 40mins from me. Not that much if you don't get behind coal trucks. LOL. email me at g95champ@hotmail.com
  15. short classes say 30mins and stick to motor skill movements.
  16. Being a HS teaching myself its like this. If the kids are nice Im nice. If the kids are jerks Im a jerk. Go to class set down and listen. If you don't like what she or he is teaching then just set their and draw or whatever but the less troulbe you make the eaiser things will be.
  17. Wendy's - Where's the Beef is a classic. I honestly don't know if there was ever a better one. I still LOL when I see it on VH1 I love the 80's lol. Budwiser Frongs - Prod the ones when the brought in Louie the Lizzard and him getting mad at the Frogs it was like a mini series.
  18. Well Im a pretty good sized man 6'1 290lbs but I am the smallest guy in my family. Our dad is 6'4 360 or so. LOL. We grow them big in WV. LOL
  19. IF you got nothing to do this Satuday turn your TV to ESPN and watch the WVU and Wisc. game. My little brother Garin Justice is going to make his first start at RT. Hes 6'8 305. I did say little brother. I guess younger is a better term. But he is wearing number 69. Ill be in the crowd somewhere if you see a big white headed guy tearing down the goal post if WVU wins that would be me.
  20. Yeap I use my front snap, low roundhouse and side snap a lot.
  21. If its not been used you can prob. trade it. However if it has been you may look to sell it. You can always just put it up and use it at home or in open sessions. In all reality I can't see your sensei being that big of a jerk about it. Just explain to him you did not know what color he wanted and go from there. BTW from my exp. Black is the best color to get you can pick up red, blue and white very eaisly but there is something about black that its just harder to see.
  22. I would say he could. I train with a 100lb bag and put it to the celling a lot. I know were talking about 200 more pounds but I don't do much bag work. Form all I have read on Lee he trained several hrs a day and worked his side kick over and over and over. So I would say the rumor is true. A shotokan side thrust kick should equal 10 times your body weight so do the Math. Lee was prob lucky to be a Burck 25 but thats still over a 1000lbs of force.
  23. "Your a daisy if you do" Doc Holliday in Tombstone Honestly none of us can say till we are there. Im a pretty crazy guy and I would think I would do somthing like blow him a kiss. Thats prob. not the best idea but I figure if I ever get to the point someone wants to start me down eye to eye im going to finish the game.
  24. When I did American TAO karate in college (a made up style) we did Chungji and Toigye but we did others as well. My teacher had 3 differant black belts on in TKD one in Hapikido and one in Chin Na Kung Fu. He picked the kata he liked and put them into his style. But I really dont know much about them.
