  1. I agree. I'd keep it. But like kamiya said, I'd strictly enforce the ranks. I'd also drop a few ranks. 4 or 5 is plenty.
  2. I am the first to take martial arts in my family. I did get my boyfriend into it But his nephew also took MA as a kid way before him, so I guess he is the second eventhough my boyfriend is older than his nephew LOL.
  3. I worked today. Came home and cleaned the kitchen. Now posting. Prolly will watch a little bit of the olympics while I eat dinner. Chill on the couch (not a training night), then hit the sack (repeat for tomorrow LOL).
  4. I had that happen once. I was also a green belt at the time. My belt was a little too long, but I was too lazy to ask for a shorter one. We did a jump kick back kick combo (or something like that). I jumped up and my belt whacked me in the eye, then I turned for the back kick fast, and my hair whipped around and got my in the other eye. I didn't get a shiner, but I couldn't see for the rest of the class. Oh don't mention farts I had a few "sneak out" during class.
  5. You got that right
  6. I'm the other way around. I can do high roundhouse, front kicks, can do splits ect. BUT I can not get my side kick higher than my shoulder height My side splits are lousy too. Anyways, the most difficult kick for me to learn (in the beginning) was the back kick. Now it's the jumping back kick ggggrrrr. I don't do well with anything that goes backwards LOL.
  7. I don't have any yet, but I wanted either the Moo Duk Kwan logo (the one under my name to the left) or a scroll looking thing with "perserverence" in Korean on my left arm. I picked that for several reasons, MA related and outside of MA.
  8. I forgot to mention that my dojang has a whole bunch of people in the adult class that are 35+ years of age. There's even a group of about 5 or 6 that are 50+.
  9. ramymensa, good post. I agree. I do TKD and I am also a big fan of the kicks. I say if you want to try it, go for it
  10. I would add more throws into our system. We do a few (and some takedowns), but not enough in my opinion (might be because I had the chance to take some Judo LOL). I would add some ground defenses also ... Not ground fighting, per say, but defenses from the ground. Other than that, I like my school the way it is.
  11. My school doesn't break boards till red and black belt level tests. But we do have kindling .... I mean, breaking week once a year. It is a good time, and I do have a woodstove, which means we get all the broken boards Free kindling I can see how it can help with focus, but not power. Most people in my school break with speed and proper technique, not power. At least, that's how I do it. I saw a young red belt (skinny little guy) break two boards with a side kick. He has really good technique, but he didn't use power. But I also saw an adult try the same thing, and he bounced off of the boards. So I personally think it's technique, not power.
  12. Hehehehe. I had a dryer sheet come flying out of my dobok pant leg while doing a kicking drill. Everyone start laughing (including me LOL).
  13. I drink mostly water or sports drinks or green tea. But on the weekends it's beer, wine, or a mixed drink on ocassion. I drink soda once in a great while. I'm not a big soda fan. BUT I'm mean without my coffee in the morning LOL. Love my coffee
  14. Korean food! My honey and I got so addicted to it, we learned to cook it LOL (cheaper than going out for it all the time). I also like (Japanese) Sushi, saki, and Tariaki (sp) shrimp. Chinese food is good, too. I like a lot of that, also (too much to name). Italian food was my first fav. Pasta based stuff rocks! Garlic bread, a glass of red wine, and a big salad .... mmmmmmmmm
  15. I also visit MT, but not as much as here. I'm addicted to KF LOL. I also visit TSD forums from time to time (not much going on in those, though).
  16. I am part of a WTF school, BUT we don't spar that much. Yes, it's the olympic rules when we do, but we focus more on the other stuff, not so much the sport end. I couldn't say much about the other two. I've seen videos of ITF that totally blew me away. This video of one ITF place I have, the technique displayed are really good (I'm a technique buff LOL)! But that's about it. mcaselogic, from what you said, you do want to find a sport WTF school (if your school isn't aready).
  17. Good attitude asynk I started when I was 24. I was falling over my own feet when I first started, and so unflexible. I felt REALLY stupid at first. But in my first school, there were a good number of adults to work with (older than me that is), so that helped. We all been there, so don't let it get to you. Just train hard
  18. Wow! Old thread, but ok. I'll bite LOL. We pay $75 for our black belt tests. Nothing for color belt tests (only $5 for the belt). $500 is a rip-off.
  19. I voted for self defense (my original reason for starting), but my motivation changed. I like the disipline, the character building .... the mental side of MA now.
  20. Don't worry about the writing. I'm American but I can't spell worth crap LOL. Welcome to KF
  21. Same here. We regularly do drills, go over old stuff, ect almost every class. But it's "quick." If the drills were a bit longer, it would be ok.
  22. There is TaeKwonDo Times. It's not the best, but it has good stuff in it sometimes. Here's the website: http://www.taekwondotimes.com/tkdt1.html
  23. I totally agree with the posts here. When I switched from TSD to TKD due to moving, I had this "dislike" for TKD (50% of TSD'ers are like that). Anyways, this is the school my boyfriend chose. He liked it so much, I joined with him. I hated it. I stayed for a year, though. I would say stuff like you do. You may find some of my gripes on here from year or so ago about this school. Why was I like that? I was close-minded. I attented another TKD school, which was a MDK school (like TSD). But I learned that that school was a McDojang. I learned cool stuff, but not properly (I had to work hard on my own to learn it right). But guess where I went back to? The first TKD school. I am more open-minded and I am enjoying it a lot. I just work hard, learn, soak up info, and keep my trap shut. I have be-friended the ones that used to hate me. They realized that I have changed. My point is that you need to go with an open mind. Drop the attitude and be willing to learn (or re-learn in your case). You just might learn some good stuff. You just need to give it time. I do wish you luck in your new school
  24. I don't watch UFC much, but I did see a few. I don't know the guy's name, but he would get someone in an armbar almost everytime, and make them tap out. I thought that was cool (I'm a big fan of armbars ).
