  1. I practice punching on boxes at work hehehehehe. We have these thick boxes (I think they are called bulk boxes for heavy storage). I walk by them and give'em a whack. I purposely leave knuckle prints in them or I end up splitting them (oopsy ). I got funny looks like I was an angery person, till someone found out I do MA. This person is used to me now, but pokes fun at me LOL.
  2. Well she was still cockey, attitude-wise. But we sparred again tonight, and I did no contact with her, but I did normal contact sparring with everyone else. She still got mad at me, because I scored on her alot. Oh well. This time it didn't bother me. I blew it off. I guess she'll learn one way or another.
  3. I had one recently. During a sparring class, the guy I was sparring kept stepping on my pant leg. They would fall down slightly, and I'd yank them back up and continue sparring (I did have the string tied, by the way). Finally he stepped on them, and I happend to step at the same time, and ..... oops .... FLASH the backside The instructor saw it ..... well not my back side. I was turned toward him, so he didn't see that "portion." But he knew what was going on. He said, "You can call a time-out to fix very important sparring gear, ya know." I blushed and fixed my pants LOL.
  4. Yep, I agree. I read her like a book, switched to "simple" mode LOL. I do know the fancy stuff, but it wasn't needed for that match. I guess that's what I'm trying to say LOL (I'm confusing myself .... I'll shut up now LOL).
  5. I did TSD and I do TKD (WTF) now. My school doesn't mix them. But I have heard of it. I did see one TKD school do kicho, then taegeuks 1-8, the back to the TSD forms. So it depends on the Kwan (school).
  6. I had a similar problem the other night. I do TKD with all the fancy kicks and all. But when I was sparring, I did simple to-the-point techniques, and beat my partner. She was using all the fancy stuff, and it didn't work. That just taught me that eventhough I do TKD, it doesn't mean that the fancy stuff works (unless someone is quick enough, that is). Well, I knew that, but this is TKD ya know hehehehehehe
  7. This is good advice (coming from a Judo beginner myself), when I started, I smacked my head pretty good. My instructor told me to tuck my chin to my chest while falling. It did worlds of good
  8. Congrads! A friend of mine just passed her 3rd dan also and I was there to watch. So I know it wasn't easy for you. But you made it! Keep up the good work
  9. Wow! You sound like my old TSD instructor ... tough drills, but very good ones Oh, I want to try your combos also
  10. elliotspirrett, right here is a good sticky thread on term http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=6381 Hope this helps.
  11. I always do Anyways, for TKD (as you know), the head IS a legal area, so I don't see what I did wrong (like you). But I did feel bad afterwards. I don't know why, but I did. Maybe cause she played that "well, She hurt me," thing. I did say I was sorry afterwards (just in case I did really hurt her).
  12. I wasn't going to post about this but here goes..... I recently went back to my old dojang. I made quick friends with this girl (the only one willing to learn tricks with .... the reason for a quick friendship). I taught her a few, and she taught them to a few other people ..... to make a long story short, she got cocky. She thought she the "stuff" in sparring also. I had others tell me about how she would get cocky with them during sparring, cause she knew she can beat them. She would "knit-pick" at them. In the mean time, I didn't hang with her much for the fact that I don't like cocky people. So, sparring class was the other night. We were allowed to pick whoever we wanted to spar with. I picked a couple of my sparring pals first (the ones who are not cocky but good, and loads of fun to spar with). I picked her next. A lot of the other girls told me she was good, so I prepared for a challege. I actually beat her .... easily (this was my first time ever sparring her). She got mad, and told the instructor that I kicked her in the head. He asked "did you block?" She said, "no, but that wasn't fair," and claimed that I hurt her. I maybe hurt her pride, but that was it. Was I wrong for doing that? I mean, she would pick on others who might be the same rank, but less skilled (some younger than her, also). The instructor even gave a lecture about good sportsmanship (cause of her attitude about losing), and he talked about that people will get kicked, even in places that are not legal. "Stuff" happens.
  13. AngelaG, I can see another article out of you Two good topics in a row.
  14. Laurie, I'll do you a swop anyday!! I don't know about the UK. It rains alot there doesn't it? And P.A.L. it's always a mess up here
  15. Hehehehe You know who I mean, Heidi LOL Oh and I forgot about you. Another one of our senior ranks
  16. You all should come up here to upstate NY. We get plenty of snow. You will get sick of it the first winter. Yuck! Sorry I'm not a winter person in the first place LOL.
  17. We have three schools in all. The main one (I attend) has an office geek ..... I mean, manager (sorry, I don't like him .... too pushy). The master instructor stays here mainly. The other two have two of our three senior black belts (3rd dans ... I think). I think one may also have an office manager. They all have regular meetings with our master instructor. And He does visit the other two schools now and then. The red and black belt tests are done here only.
  18. I agree, ninjanurse. Our school does the above stuff as a warm-up. I think it's great, because I get warmed up, plus I get to work on combos at the same time
  19. When I moved from NJ to NY (well a couple months before), I searched the web for schools up here via the internet. I think it is good for schools to have a website for people like me that move and want to find a school. I thought it was useful (for those that did have sites). For those that didn't, I thought it was kinda frustrating that I couldn't find out info on the school without calling them (which I couldn't do on my parents phone at the time). And, like some mentioned, it's good to be able to check up on events, ect and maybe have a place for students to get together outside of class.
  20. I do TKD and have been studying for 3 years. I don't have my BB yet. Maybe I stink LOL (stupid joke ... sorry). Just kidding. Seriously, manuelito has a good point. If you have been studying for 8 years, you should be able to learn these kicks fairly quickly on your own. No need to start TKD just for the kicks. Just practice, practice, and oh ..... more practice
  21. Angela, here you go http://www.karateforums.com/album.php You can also get to the album from the top right of any KF screen. The little red bar, that is. And congrads to all the winners Way to go all.
  22. This is very good advice. I could do splits (almost), but I couldn't get my side kick up there. Now I can with proper champering. Plus I worked on my kicks in slow motion (hold on to something for balance if needed). Make sure your technique is good. Then speed it up. It worked for me
  23. Mu Ryuk, good luck. You are competing with my fav form But don't mess it up like I did LOL.
