  1. Welcome
  2. Kajukenbo is a good system for self defense. Internet has lots of info on Kajukenbo. There are also some forum members who train in Kajukenbo. You may want to address them with some questions.
  3. I don't ever wash my belt. In fact, my original BB from 1986 has only gotten a bath when we did beach training and were working out at waist level surf . My belt has since faded to a light black/dark gray, and remains in tact . Wish I could find the same type belt if ever I need a new one.
  4. Hello and Welcome....like the signature!
  5. Nope will be at work On the other hand, bet the "dojo bunnies" will be in full force J/K Happy Easter to all
  6. When I studied Shotokan, my training partner was a woman who was a black belt in the system. She and I trained hard at everything from kata to sparring. At one point when we sparred, she suggested that we pad up and pull no punches. So we did and we knocked the snot out of each other . I'll never forget getting hit with her reverse punch....just wanted to make me . Never once did the fact that she was female make me think otherwise about how we trained together .
  7. Welcome Aboard!
  8. Hi Tera, Welcome Aboard! Nice background by the way:-)
  9. I marked the foam boot, but I also use the cloth shin guard. In all reality in this day and age with SUE happy people, it is wise to use as much precaution as you can when you spar. Especially when dealing with students. Now if I were sparring with my training buddy, we'd still pad up, but the contact is something else. In other words, we'd let loose a bit on the control .
  10. G95: I have 1" thick puzzle mats in my garage. They are from Tiger Claw. They are okay for what space and budget I have. You do tend to stick to them pretty good, so catching a toe or pivoting can sometimes be a pain/possibility. I just lay mine down on the cement and they don't slide. I don't recommend throws or hard take downs on them, even with padding underneath. I have 2 fold out mats for that. Perhaps one on the best home mats that I had was the 8x8 Swain one peice mat. Unfortunately it wasn't big enough to train on. Swain gets real expensive when you need a decent size coverage.
  11. Call it cheesy, teenie, whatever...........but I saw the pilot and the second episode, and I guess I'm just not hard to please when it comes to anything martial arts related on the tube. I simply watch it for pure entertainment purposes, not to actually try and learn anything from it(physical martial arts movements, etc.). As for the story line, plot, what have you, it's all up to the writers. As for being lined up with Alias, well fortunately for me with this satillite TV, I can't get that channel anymore, so I gotta make due with what I got.
  12. hello
  13. Attitude usually gets you nowhere, but a ticket with a big fine at the end..............
  14. Since it's illegal in CA., I must say that it does take some skills to manipulate the balisong. I can flick my folder out just as fast perhaps as a balisong being opened, so I don't understand the need for the balisong to remain illegal. Also, there are folders on the market that are spring loaded like the switchblade, and yet those are legal here.
  15. HERE,HERE....To the men and women of our Armed Forces
  16. The Shotokan world has lost yet another great instructor/pioneer of their art. May his students continue on with his legacy.
  17. in chat rm now, chillin'
  18. Work on some focus pad drills for hand combinations. You can start with your students in static mode so that they can get timing down. As you progress add in some footwork, linear and lateral. Continue to add in some upper body movement such as the bob and weave as they throw their punches. For punches work basic jab, cross, hook, even uppercut. If you have the Thai pads, you can incorporate the kicks with the hands. Hope this is of some help to you.
