  1. I thought that within the WTF you need to go to Korea and be tested at the Kukkiwon. This would then certify you around the world.
  2. She is limited as to what she is allowed to break now. I will not let her do the thick 5/8" wood but instead the speed boards. They will be easier on her and still assist her in focus and technique.
  3. I apologize for this. I was misinformed. This year there is something happening on July 22nd weekend at the Upper Dublin high school. Next year there is a huge Tae Kwon Do exhibition coming to Philadelphhia. Again I am sorry.
  4. With regards to my daughter, now 9 years old, attaining her BB. She lives the spirit of Tae Kwon Do, with my help of course. When she first tried breaking she tried her elbow and scraped her wrist on the wood. Well any little girl would cry as she did and yet she asked the Master to try again but with a kick. She was upset that she could not break it still and kept trying (indomitable spirit) and finally broke it on her 12th attempt. The Master was VERY proud of her and still talks about her spirit not quitting. Outside the school she just started Softball and was not a hitter by any means. She kept trying and still could not hit. She tried switching hands (from right to left) and she ended up being one of the team’s hitters. Again not giving up and not trying to improve. I feel she may be a child that has the heart and spirit of a much older person.
  5. I wqas told a black belt should be able to start and stop in the same place. I close my eyes to make sure I trust my body to make the proper turns in the right directions.
  6. I believe if I put my mind to it I will do it so it will be an experience for sure.
  7. For me 1 step sparring is a great SAFE way to learn how to fight. True it is against one movement a punch but it still teach a person how to defend and attack and a way to practice stances while being attacked. We also practice not going up and down but also into circles.
  8. Breaking is a way to show power through technique. It shows trust between the student and the master and the students ability to trust the aster. I look forwards to breaking a brick. To me this willl be a step I am longing to take in my art.
  9. We are World Tae Kwon Do Federation certified. Not sure what else you mean? Unless you are asking style to which it is Ji Do Kwon. I was thinking of changing to Moo Do Kwon.
  10. I understand her becoming a junior black belt and all that. I was questioning if when she receives her BB at the age of 13 does she remain a senor to new BB's after her? example Jan 06 she passes her BB test and is now a junior black belt at the age of 10. in Jan 07 a person passes the BB test at the age of 30 and receives thier BB. in 09 when daughter is 13 she will automatically receive her BB becasue she is of age. Is the person who got thier BB in 07 her senior or is my daughter that person's senior? Hope this is clear.
  11. I think the school does the BB test in Jan and July. I am already not making the July test. No problem there really. I am not trying to rush it. My master said I am his only student who has been proactive to learn forms, taegeuk forms, with eyes closed. I do 1 through 5 this way and stop in my starting place. Working on 6 now. This is what he says allows me to move ahead.
  12. She started about 1.25 years ago. A little after myself. She trains with me and we practice together. Her bing extremely active in sprotsm ballet and TKD has truely helped her so much. We both are WTF associated.
  13. For me it is a spinning side kick on the ground and a flying front kick from the air.
  14. With my daughter being 9 years old and just obtaining her Red belt in Tae Kwon Do, I feel she is about 1 to 1.5 years out for her Black Belt test. I was informed that she will not get it until she is 13 years old. At which point she will be granted the belt. Questions are as follows..... 1) Is this correcting regards to the age of 13? 2) Does she receive the acknowledgement of a Black Belt prior to her actually receiving the belt?
  15. It is unheard of for us to have this happen. I was already told I will be in the next Black Belt test, which occurs twice per year, next year. So I have a lot to do before them. I will go for my deputy Black in Sept I think.
  16. I know have 2 white strips on my red and my daughter received her red belt.
  17. Having study the WTF forms I will say that the remembering of the actual poomse is on the easy side as a lot of forms in martial arts are. What I would say to this is that the technique behind doing these forms and katas are what makes them very difficult. Personally I practiced Taegeuk 8 on Saturday with my Master and I was exhausted from this. Any time a person practices forms they should be tired when complete. I have never seen a person NOT get tired.
  18. Well this past Saturday was a bit fun. I was getting ready to enter the class and my masters asked me if I wanted to test for my next stripe. I turn and said Iknow the form but not procaticed it long. Then I said it is up to my master if I am ready. Well myself and my daughter BOTH were selected and passed. I am now a step away from my deputy black.
  19. I was instructed that breaking wood is about the same as breaking bones in a fight. It is MOSTLY used to demonstrate how well a student focuses as well as follows instructions from thier master and knows how to use its art. When breaking a brick it is the perfect execution of a move (that is if you do not want it to hurt). I have heard that my school does bricks for the 1st Dan test but we are not permitted to attend unless already a black belt. As for me, I love to break and I do hope to get that chance to confront a brick. I use this type of test to show myself how well I am able to perform my art.
  20. I have a pair of TKD shoes and I do like them when I am training at home with the heavy bag. In class I wear them ONLY when I am going to be practicing my form. When testing and sparring I do not wear them. During competition we are not permitted to wear them. As for breaking, it is harder to break with them on because the soft soul is MORE work for you to break as it absorbs the energy of a kick. I guess my friend said it best. A bare foot with blisters and such really builds up character.
  21. Well being the loving father that I am I just could not brng myself around to hit her....OK your on to me, she is too fast..... What my instructor/tester did was me being a senior belt to her I was only allowed to block. She was attacking me. He felt I should be able to block her attack (which I did mostly). My thigh took a shot though. lol
  22. I have heard it willbe in Philadelphia on July 22 weekend. I believe it is an open forum and not just Tae Kwon Do. More to come as I get it.
  23. Thank you all. IT is good to be here.
  24. Has anyone heard of a major TKD Exhibition coming to the East Coast in July? I heard it was the Korean National team against the American Olympic team as well as a TKD amateur tournament. I would like to think it is TRUE. Rumor has it that 30,000 people will be involved overall.
  25. I just achieved my 2nd KEub this past week. 1 step closre to my BB. My Daughter (9 years old) just received her 4th Keub. I got to spare with her in test. She won. I could not hit her.
