  1. 1) We do co-ed sparring. Me being a big guy will not hit a female with all power but enough to help her understand contact. 2) I will fight anyone but my daughter. I just can not hit her. Wish it was the same the other way. 3) If training for a tourny then it is advantage to fight the same size person. 4) WTF for me. We use all olympic rules for all age groups.
  2. I figured a hopping front kick followied with a step behind side kick followed with a flying side kick. All multiple boards.
  3. I am going to be in a breaking tournament and I am not sure what I want to do.....Strange huh.....We are allowed a max of 3 stations of breaking....Anyone have any ideas of what is good? I have no problem with breaking and using hands or feet is not an issue. I think my problem is I have been helping others in class develop thier program and I guess I am out of ideas.....
  4. And by the person telling you that it is cheaper to go with the monthly fee, this is good business. Nothing strange about it. I am sure they will allow you to sit in for a week for free. Also I would still look else where for comparison. It does not hurt.
  5. Defintly ask to sit in on some lessons for free. a good school will not even hesitate on this. Does anyone know the conversion of a pound to the american dollar?
  6. I Would love to see some photos of schools abroad. Would be a nice way to see how different or similar they are.
  7. Best of luck to you (and your wife). I am sure IW ill be nervous too but without a wife. I should be testing for mine in Feb 06 and married in Oct 06. lol
  8. I study WFT and the Taegeuk forms. I think this will help you. http://www.natkd.com/movies/Forms/Palgwe/palgwe8.wmv
  9. Good luck with it. I am going for my Deputy Black in Sept. I have always been sparring during my tests. PErsoanlly I am not a fighter. I love the forms and techniques mostly. What form do you like th emost? I love Taeguek 6 even though Taeheuk 1 is my best
  10. I used it once when I tried stopping a guy (not calling him a man) from beating on a lady. Well I was able to block a punch and grabbed the wrist anf put him into the groud with it. He did not have any weapons. When others (friends of his) came and found out what happened they actually thanked me for stopping him from doing anything to her. She was thankful as well. I was shocked I reacted as I did.
  11. I have been informed that part of the fees we pay for testing goes to Korea. The other part goes to the school for overhead (rent and so on).
  12. Well I should state that the $2500 dollars includes monthly fees as well as test charges.
  13. If your looking for more traditional type of training then I would go with ITF style of TKD. The schools I have seen that are WTF focus on Sport type of fighting.
  14. For me it will cost approx $2500 American to go from start to finish. 4k seems high to me.
  15. I think it is actually 6feet 10 oz.
  16. I know all 8 Taeguek forms (1 through . In order to acheive my Deputy Black (in Sept) I need to demonstrate them all without hesitation or flaw. These are the forms needed within the WFT. ATF I believe utilize the 8 Palgwe forms which are the traditional forms of Tae Kwon Do (no taeguek stances too for the record).
  17. Muaythaboxer, That is not a valid reason to select a school. If he is looking to get into fighting and sparring then yes and if he were looking for Olympic type of fighting I would select TKD. But the student needs to understand what it is they wish to get out of the art. One art favors the other for different reasons.
  18. Just for the record. The instructor does make a HUGE difference in class. Example being that the school I go to is a little different, but noticably, then a schoool owned by the same group. I would say TALK with the instructer and use that also to judge if it is a school for you or not.
  19. Alos what I do when I learn a new form is practice it in steps. First I work my legs and head turns and make the turns as if doing the form. Then I will work my hips into the turns. Then I will add the arms. This allows me to do the form with different parts of my body and really feel myself doing each move correctly. Reading books is VERY important in learning your art. I try to understand EVERYTHNG about it I can. In fact I was told by my girl friend that I am overboard with reading about it. HEHE
  20. From what I ave been taught is that you can score with a punch (reverse only) and it must STOP or BACK UP your opponent. The is a VERY difficult thing to do with a punch.
  21. From my understanding this was a WTF tournement (I could be wrong) and it was open only to American/Koreans. The rules appeared to be Olympic rules....Scoring as follows..... 1 point for a hit to the chest area 2 points for controlled kick to the head 3 points if knock to the ground.
  22. Does anyone know of any Tae Kwon Do Exhibition teams from Korea? I heard there is a couple of them touring the US. I believe 1 is from WTF but I could be wrong (which happens).
  23. How about Seek and Destroy - Metallica Ina Goda Divida - Iron Butterfly (WOW)
  24. I attended the Nation American/Korean tournament this past week Upper Dublin, PA and was very impressed with what I seen. I learned so much about fighting just by watching. Sometimes I felt like I was in the ring getting kicked. My only question/statement is that I seen so many (95%) fighters with thier arms down. This was for Black Belts only and thought they would keep them up. Wild but still impressive.
  25. To me I tend to blend etiquette and disciplin together. After all they do go hand in hand. When I began studying TKD I noticed not only do I hold doors open, which I did prior, but when walking past woman in the office I stand almost at atention as I say hello or other greetings to them. I also notice I call my chief and other elders SIRor MAAM and do it without even thinking.
