Ryokeen replied to Ryokeen's topic in Health and Fitness
Thanks. I now eat alot of chicken posta and eggs, staying away from to much yolk . -
I have finnaly relised my goals and how much work it'll take me. Today while I was streatching thought of a routine to use to get my body use to far harder things. This'll be daily routine(I hope) with rest day's being Half work wednessday and off sunday. Warm Up: 50-100 Dips5-10 sets fo 10 with a break every 25% for 5 seconds. All Streatches to my knowledges stressing 30 mins to the ones I'm not so good at. Wieghts: What ever it's called; You lay down and bring the wieghts infront fo you then release them slowly down. Pushups with wieghts added. And several different squats using wieghts. Lots of technique and forms for competition. Lots of push ups in veriety and situps. Swimming or running 2-3 times a week atleast 1 mile each trip. Right now I way roughly 126 and Im roughly 5'5 or 5'6. I'm trying to tone up add density to my muscle and mass, some what. I'll only be using 15 lbs-25lb wieghts. What do you guys think? This will most likely be devided into 2 work outs each with 45mins-1h of streatching time before each. I'll be eating foods with protiens and such in them, fruit, potatoes boiled or baked, shrubery...what my family calls salad..lol. Any other dietary suggestions? Thanks, Aaron Oha nd for those of you who know I had an issue with my sidekick. It's now resolved but as a consicence I screwed up my roudhouse some how lol. Back to the drawing board .

wont that hurt? Yes, it sounds more crazy then what i do with ym sensei. I won't say ti because if you do it wrong your hamstrings could go capoot and there goes your elgs for 6-8 monthsish. NO one wnats that..

I can see I made many mistakes, fixed my diet now into 54-6 balanced small meals with protein, calcium, fruits ect all balanced out. I also talked to my sensei about using weights and I am not to sue any more than thsoe that you wrap around you wrists and ankles, He showed my many different exercises to work a large veriety of muscles, from handstand pushups to wierd ones that work everything. I am more soar than ever before right now . About the side kick. I can only do it about ankle hieght at a decent, not very good side kick. Also, something else came up in my new kata. I swear I'm gonna cut off my left leg and save me the trouble.. When I do it my legs not strait, its well wierd and low. I can stretch furth on my elft leg than my right so why is this happening? I can also kick higher with my left. Thanks for all your input, I did have a questiona s to how much protien ect I should keep in my 4-6 small meal diet. Wasn't quite sure. Thanks . I'm glad you guys straitened my out on alot of things. -

The only wieght lifting I'd consider is the old way. wrap a rope around a weight sling a rope over a branch and go to town. As fars as those pushups go somewhere in there I thought I mentioned I did about 90 to 180 (oops guess I only said 90) Very hard ones daily, not all in one gulp as I can only manage 90 every 30-45 mins. I don't want size, I just want more density in my muscle there for increasing my wieght. Maybe a little bulk wouldn't hurt but not much. But I think I will try some light wieght lifting. If you can't tell by now I beleive in not changing the arts to western style, i feel I'll get the best benefits from eastern, as that si where they origionated... it only makes sense.. But I will try to add more streatches to my routine. And I was also told to find some slippery floor, place on foot on the wall and one foot on some cardboard. Slide as far as I can and rest there for a while until it hurts to bad or I fall over and after a week I'll get about 3-7 inches better. I have trouble even making ti with my left foot, but yes I can do it. It just bothers me, my right was perfect from day one, but my left... well... Instead of 5-6 little meals I eat when I am hungery, usually 1-2 medium meals. They consist of a salad with a little bit of dressing, and maybe some potatoes and a few slices of oven baked ham. As far as the sugars go all I drink is water and the most sugar I get is sugar free popsicles. I have to be eating right, I don't eat fast food but once a month because mom says that if your body doesn't get use to it, the body will suck out all the fatty out of it. She's a nurse anddid a great deal of nutrition study. Thanks for your help! -
Well frankly it'd be great to have one of these. I could find hours of fun things to do with it. but there has gotta be a set cheaper than 1,000 USD. It's not that fun... I thought about building a ste, but I couldn't find all the neccisary parts. Can you help me out here? Thanks! Aaron

Here is my normal routine for a daily basis with some things weekly, if that makes any sense.. I try to do 350-500 knee pushups one handed on finger tips, Mainly for the purpose of building muscle in the hand and fingers, it also helps my legs stretching as I stretch my legs out while doing them. I do a combination of kicks, including the snap kick(a forward kick that kind of snaps with tows bent back), Roundhouse (Most people have the same roundhouse as my style XD.), and Side Kicks(JKD styled). I also streatch for 30 mins to an hour a day, although I don't seem to get any progress... (Help on this would be great!) In adition to those pushups, I do a routine of 15(complicated to explain pushups) then 15 crunches with my feet in the air and me doing a rotation form left to right. I do about 3-6 sets fo these daily. Right now I weigh roughly 127 lbs. But I came to find out that little of that is muscle. I'm roughly 30% body fat. I'd like to densify my muscle and maybe drop down 10-15% of body fat and replace that with muscle. In a sense I wanan stay the same, gain a bit of weight but not fat. I do 15 miles of canoeing a week, in one setting no resting... for more than 5 mins. Any tips would be great. Also my sidekick on my left foot is horrible. I don't get the knife edge that I should at all, I fear in next months competition I'll hurt it. I don't want that so i need tips on getting that to work out. Thanks! Learning from you guys rocks. There is no difference, A female body can be just a powerful as a males. It's like saying ice and snow aren't the same thing. They are both water. Although if you're not use to hard work you'll have to work your way up. It's just an image. Males aren't stronger, heck if i had to have a kid, well we won't go into that. Lol. Train as hard as you can, My sensei's daughter could take more and harder hits than any of his top ranked male belts. Oh and she kinda won the world championship at the age of 14... And now it wasn't divided it was males and females. Bassically it all comes out to how well you train and how hard you work. Have fun most of all .

I would venture to say that you are doing the first incorrectly, most likely. If your shoulders and mid back arent coming up off the floor, then all your doing is rounding your shoulders. I do all sorts of different crunchs from different angles to high upper and lower abs, as well as internal and external obliques (Add rotation and side crunches for these last two.) Aodhan Yah what Aodhan said, you have to be doing something wrong... By raising your feet and holding them in the air, you work your lower abs, by bringing your head up you work the mid and higher abs, I also do side to side ones. I bring it up to the left and move over to the right and back down flat then again. It's like doing a type of a pushup on your knees, there's a hard way and an easy way, obviously do it the hardest way you can.
-
Yup...I figure, if I'm going to end up with it, may as well give it to everyone else! Just kidding...really? I had wondered...my first two knuckles are quite overgrown...anything I can do to stop that? Most of your wieght is put on those in particular when you do the pushups. I bet they crack more ofter/easierly then the others too? I am not sure if you can fix it, but I'll be sure to ask. Anyways I'd suggest lowering the amount or stopping altogether and working on other styles of pushups and excercises, such as I suggested. They work quite well XD.

training in Missouri?
Ryokeen replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I found alot but wasn't quite sure where what is, compared to where you live. Go to https://www.google.com Then click on the Local button Then type in Martiala Arts in thw What section And where you live including state in the where box. Also try asking around if you have no luck on Local Google. Some people do private lessons, or are certified teachers who'd be more than glad to help you out. Oh and PLEASE PLEASE post the school info on here so we can tell you if it's a serious school or a McDojo . ~Ryokeen -
Western(American) or Eastern(Asian) training?
Ryokeen replied to Kajukenbopr's topic in Health and Fitness
Deffinently eastern. I have and always will think bulk is dumb, and no one can tell em differently . Why lift all those wieghts when you were blessed by a working body? -
I don't mean to be rude but clinical studies prove that doing knuckle pushups give you arthritis at a young age. My sensei is living proof of that, he no longer can compete thanks to the "nuckle head" who told him to do them. (pun intended) I'd hate to see another 30-40 year old come around in 20 years having arthritis. Your hand is small, keep it that way. Use it like a mole, weasel into thier defences. DO finger tip pushups to build up hand muscles at a less expensive cost 20 years down the line. This will also cusion your bones ect when punshing something. My left arm use to be useless for this reason. Then I started fingertip pushups . Start out on your knees, that do them on your kness but wiht you legs seperated, this also helps with splits ect, then work on them wiht no kness. Who ever thought of punching hard walls really wasn't thinking. IMO For Grip Muscles pretend there is a 300+ lb object infront of you, Visualize it the thry to push it with you hands. Slowly as it wasy 300lbs and no one wants a hernia. XD Once you get your arms almost strait start grabing like some one was trying to kill you and you had their face in graps. Do this for about 5 mins. The break and repeat until you're tired. You may look dumb, but the results are phenominal.

I just relised from what you just said how severly hard my own program is. I'm 15 and my Program consists of 90 sit ups in class in a variety, 90 soop push ups in class,a nd 500 daily outside of class. Not in one setting, but between 1pm-10pm. I also work kata and techniques. If you're like and me and don't have the money, or just don't wanna waste it, try pushing yourself as hard as you can, generally after your daily comute so you rest it off. We're taugh to never just sit and watch tv, we are to streatch,do pushups, or do kata while enjoying ourselves. We train hard because we want to, We all want to try and beat his record or 11 years undefeated. My suggestion, unless you want to go the way of the lifting, is to just up it alot more gradually so you cna get use to it. My sensei never lifts at all and he can bench atleast 600 wiht his legs for sure 600, prolly more. They are quite scary. Have fun either way you go .

what do you take with you to training for eating or drinking
Ryokeen replied to Jane_Doe's topic in Health and Fitness
I only take water to. Nonflavored has less sodium if any and keeps me going longer than anyhting else. 25 push ups? Your school is lenient. Up it to 50. -
I finnaly found a fun hobby that goes with MA. I wanna be a stunt/martial arts person! The only issue is My sensei si getting older and doesn't like to teach MA tricks. So I have to go some where else to get the training. I Thought about gymnastics but they'd prolly have me learn many things I don't want to learn. Any suggestions of good books or something to work with that won't have me run around the barn just to learn one trick. Thanks Aaron

Upping the speed to a realistic situation.
Ryokeen replied to Ryokeen's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I've allready been taught the interception from a very large verity of attacks, from a step punch to a wild swinging punch. I'll just work it alot more. And about the ball thing. Couldn't I presay throw a bouncy ball against a wall and try to keep it moving at the same speed? Essentially isn't that the same thing. I'm not signed up to a gym because in my beliefs your body is your best exercise machine so this is the closest thing I could think of. Thanks. I'll keep drilling it. -

Okay. As you can see I do a combo of TKD,Aikido, and Shorin-Ryu Karate all in one. We have these moves that you bassicaly lock the arm and after doing this you can do a large variety of moves, from pulling thier head back and hammer fisting thier chest to pulling both arms down and slashing with your finger tips at thier ribs. Many other things can be done, our sensei did a 19 hit combo, I think, to our upper rank. It was crazy. Anyways I've become proficient at it slowly. but when some one punches me full force and speed I am unable to intercept it correctly. How would you suggest I get faster with the technique. I guess I should ask my sensei, but I'd rather try it on my own first. Drill it more into my work out, have some one who know's what they're doing gradually increase every week or something? Thanks! Ryokeen -
Water. Sodium will eventually leave you thirsting. That and the fact that I only drink water. To me pop is evil, really. My sensei will randomly hit us in the stomach when he feels need be, we're all okay with it as it helps us resist the urge. And if pop comes up, well that's never happend, so anywas back to topic. Water.

Well, Today I did some minor round houses on the leg and it's acting fine. it just gets stiff in the moring and soar and then I have to re wrok it up to par. Right now I can do amm my stretches almost as well as I could orrigionally. My iniered ahve always healed quickly. Once I get a viral infection in my lymph nodes, doctor said I'd be down for a couple weeks 2 days I was tip top shape. Thanks for the tips, they did help alot . Ryokeen

Perhaps but the thing isI have always stretched the same. I added one more stretch to my stretching routine and that's it. Could one stretch really mess up a tendon? What sort of excersises do you suggest while the leg is down? Thanks Ryokeen

It's my personal beleif that the boflex helps some what but not as much as the OLD OLD fasion way of just using your body. "Your body is the best peice of equiptment out there, why don't you use it?" My favorite qoute And well frankly my body does me just fine. Sure it's boring and well you don'tget to pull on ropes tied to wieghts, but it sure is beneficial. My two Cents.
-
I just drink water and eat healthily. Milk ahs never done me any good as I take calcium pills that give me what the milk does. I only like milk in my cereal once in a while . Thanks My 2 cents. Ryokeen

Well I am expiriencing soarness right under my leg, near my knee. I never knew there was a muscle there, atfirst i thought it was my hamstring axcting up or what not but now, Once I stretch it ect it's good to go for a few hrs and then once I stop working it for even 2 mins it stops wokring right again and I have to restretch. Any ideas as to what the colprate could be ? Is it that I usually don't work that muscle or maybe threw something the wrong way ect? Thanks! Ryokeen
