  1. I train karate three times a week, and MMA for two times a week. And I have started to do some weightlifting six times a week in mornings.
  2. Just a week a go I read in finnish newspaper that one dude kicked his opponent in the head while fighting in the streets. Ive also heard about few fights when the fight ended cause of the high kick in the face. But, you perhaps win the fight in the street, but you lose it in the court.
  3. 7 is the agelimit here. There are own groups for kids aged 7-10 and 10-12. They mostly train kihon and kata (not bunkai). So they can do the basic things pretty well when they join the adultgroup.
  4. When you are in great shape you can take more damage than norman guy. About a year ago I punched (with almoust all of my power) one brown belt karateka in training and he just asked me to punch little harder. He is in great shape and he has an amazing paintolerance
  5. Maybe in WKF rules kumite women can be better than men since it is more of a speed and reflects sparring, but when sparring with full contact men are a lot better than women, I have never seen a woman beating man in Boogutsukikumite.
  6. Shorinjiryu RenShinKan karate-do is the style what I practise.
  7. Eat normal food, dont eat candies, dont drink soda`s. Just train hard and you will lose some weight quite fast. Since you are only 16 you should eat normally. No hamburgers and pizza`s, homefood is the best. Ive lost quite much weight just by dropping unhealthy food from my personal menu. Still, losing weight should be done by training hard, not by eating not enough.
  8. I use a lot of sokutogeri, and it is probably considered as my trademark technique. Atleast my clubfellows would say that it is my trademark technique. I have suprised few more skillfull karate-ka`s when doing kumite with my sokutogeri.
  9. That looks like a sokutogeri to me. It is a sidekick with a great power on it.
  10. Now it`s summer so I go once in a week to train karate. I got now more time to train with weights and for jogging. I should be in great shape in autumn
  11. My name wasnt in the database. So I must be anonymous in hawaii
  12. In karate we train with knives, in kobudo people train with Bo, Jo, Tonfa, bokken, nunchaku and some other weapons. Karate and kobudo are trained in same club, and same people are involved. If you want to defend yourself against weapons, you must know how to use them, and how they work.
  13. I have never been sick on testing. But I swet like hell in last testing. My hands shaked so much that writing was very hard and my swet flooded in to the paper that contained the writing part of the test. But I made it and I were proud of myself.
  14. Ive heard that there is one bo kata in shorinjiryu renshinkan, the name is tokumine no kon. But I have never trained it. In Finland we train okinawan kobujutsu which includes kata`s but I havent really focused on that. Ilpo Jalamo is the name of the sensei who is teaching that in Finland. Jussi probably knows a lot more than I do.
  15. Karate in olympics, never. Sportkarate in olympics, maybe.
  16. Every autumn we go to party in shipcruise, in summers we have summerparty in senseis cottage, and few other parties along the year. Excellent way to know better the people in the club.
  17. Great article. Seisan is teached after kenshuho(not a kata anymore), ananku and wanshu in Finland. Since it is too hard for beginners. Seisan is asked in the test of blue belt and brown belt (2.kyu and 1.kyu), so Im just beginning to learn it. Some bunkais were trained in trainingcamp in Lappeenranta last week. Few bunkais from ananku, and one from seisan. (Short camp, not much time). Also other camps are included bunkaitraining of the katas, so it is not forgotten. Of course it is a little shame that now there is not much time for bunkai in normal training since the big change happened this year, and lot of new stuff came in after Sensei Matsuoi left the style.
  18. yeah, Ive heard that kusanku got all everything important. And it is also the name of the club where I train so it would be obvious choice for me also. Second place goes for seisan, I have only trained the form of it, but it seems to be very interesting kata, also very tough one. I have also heard that this includes much of what is important in the style what I train. Ananku is on third. The bunkais that I have trained seems to be very effective, and I also love training the form. Personally my favorite kata.
  19. Training in McDojos can teach you some deadly tricks, but they are deadly only for you.
  20. If you do sparring with full contact then weight is only good. Though getting faster helps also. But speed is useless without power. Gain some muscular, but not too much, so you can be rather fast, and rather strong.
  21. In Finland there is a club that trains Shiai Kyokushin, same as the original kyokushin but they use K-1 rules when sparring full contact. Of course they have also "dojofight" rules for those who dont want to get their face smashed I have never tested shiai kyokushin but it sounds pretty effective.
  22. Im 18 years old. In here kids cant even have black belt. Youngest black belt in club where I train is 23 years old. But one 16 years old girl may have black belt soon(Her mother is sensei of the club,so she can have a lot of extratraining in home). Of course here are too those junior belts, but there is no such thing as junior black belt. Junior brown is the highest junior belt, and at the moment no one has it. Though it really doesnt even matter since it takes about 8 years to get a black belt here, and kids grow up so fast.
  23. But if you would come in Finland you would be out of job. Those who professionally teaches MA here goes for trainingcamps to teach. One trainingcamp can cost 20-40€ for 2 days, and if you are good teacher many will come to get trained by you. People may pay good money for teaching, but not all the time.
