  1. You mean Tai Chi? Yes, it's an internal art practiced for health and so on.
  2. I used to have bad posture, and I am trying to correct it, I just never really noticed before recently. Will it stop hurting eventually? Or does it just get worse?
  3. Yeah man, that just reminded me of something that happened at one about a month ago. I decided to perform Seipai at a tourney. There were alot of kids from one school, so I knew I was in for it. I was last up and made sure to be very circular, snappy, and hard, with lotsa spirit. I remember I got 8.5, 6.0, 6.1, 6.5, and 7.3. I was like "What the heck?" I remember getting 3rd, and when we dispersed, I looked at the judges. 3 of them where from the school with all the kids. I was tweaked, but hey, you win some, you lose some.
  4. define "empower" However, Krav Maga would be excellent.
  5. Say guys, is having your neck too straight bad for it? After I wake up, after a while or so, I try to correct my posture, and my neck hurts for the rest of the day. Is it that I'm making my neck too straight or could it be something else? I never really had this problem. It might be the bridges I've been doing, too. Your thoughts?
  6. You know there really are aliens? They just know better then to be caught on the same planet as Chuck Norris.
  7. Hey everyone. I just wanna know if anyone knows of a crane instructor somewhere in central pa. From what I've seen of it, it's beautiful, and I'd like to learn as much as I can. Thanks for anyone's help.
  8. It's true. Someone once told Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks weren't the best way to kick someone. This has been recorded by historians as the worst mistake ever made.
  9. Chuck Norris. Not that I have a chance, but because I'd be the first person I'd know to die by his roundhouse kick to the face.
  10. Specifically, the upper and middle. I don't know any yoga, though, so many someone could help me out there.
  11. Saifa Sanchin Seipai Seisan Tensho Seiyunchin Shisochin Sanseru I just noticed there are alot of S katas in Goju...
  12. I've never tried that Krav Maga stuff, but I hear it's worth the money.
  13. Why not? If you can pump out 100 or so pushups/ pullups without breaking a sweat, why not wear a weighted vest and get some new muscle growth. I'm actually shopping for one online right now. I don't see anything wrong with it.
  14. But I don't know where to start. I only know of like Tai Chi, and I don't know if that'd work best for me. I don't really know what each art has to offer. Further more, there are no instructors around here, so I'll need to learn from a video, or travel out of the area, or something. Can anyone recommend me an art?
  15. I'm no expert, but I was in exactly the same shape. I was 5'7" and 145 pounds. Have you tried pyramid lifting? My body responded positively to that. Not saying it'd work for you, but it's a thought.
  16. Hello all. I was just wondering if someone could give me some calisthenics exercise for developing the traps. I'm leaving for Basic Training in 2 months and decided to just drop all weights and start doing my bodyweight exercises, but I'm still trying to look good. And I don't know any traps exercises(except a pull up which I think stresses the lower trap to some degree). Can anyone help out here?
  17. By that do you mean it's a higher stance? Do you have any pics if that's not it?

  19. The other day I was reading something about hojo undo that said about antagonist (non used) muscles being proportionate to the protagonist(used) muscles in any movement, or else it could slow down a movement considerably. Since I started weight training, I have noticed I have slowed down immensly. And, looking at myself in the mirror, my body does look somewhat out of whack. So I was wondering, does anyone know a definative way to measure muscular balance(i.e. the tricep covers 2/3 of the arm, so it should be 3 times bigger, ect.)?
  20. It's actually parts I picked out from an online store. Everything's here, just minus an operating system. I have misplaced the Windows xp install disk that came with my first computer. I know someone with the Cd, but he won't be available for several days. I don't have that hard drive anymore. Despite my efforts, it couldn't get it to boot at all. The hard drive I'm referring to is the one in the computer I'm using now. It's slightly outdated, but I don't do much besides email and research martial arts, so it wasn't a big deal. But anyway, I've read about those clone programs that copy hard drives and it seemed like much less of a hassle then waiting for the disk, reinstalling xp, and transferring the files over on a flash drive.
  21. I just bought a new computer. My old one got fried, somehow, I never figured it out. Anyhow, the one I'm using now has alot of stuff I need to keep. So I've been looking at these programs on how to copy stuff from one hard drive to another. The new one doesn't have an operating system yet, so I wanna copy everything from here to there. Unfortunately, all the technical mumbo jumbo has me lost. Can anyone give me instructions in plain english?
  22. I've done ibuki breathing so much it's almost second nature. It's helped me take the edge off when an adrenaline rush comes. I don't know why, they just happen at the same time with me. I don't have asthma, but I know people at the dojo that it's helped them tremendously as well.
  23. Let me tell you a story my Sensei told me. There were 2 monks, one old and one young, that left the monastery to start their own temple. On their way, they came to a river. On their side there was a young woman crying. The older monk went over to ask her why she was crying, and she said "The river is too strong, I cannot cross". The old monk picked up the woman and carried her across the river, with the young monk following. He was furious because touching women is strictly forbidden. When they reach the other side, the old monk sets the woman down and they continue on their journey. The young monk, still being angry, followed. Still fuming after several miles, he yelled at the older monk. "Why did you touch that woman?! Touching women is strictly forbidden, and yet you carried her across the river?!" The older monk replied calmly, "Why are you still carrying her?"
  24. If I do it this way, will I be able to maintain my current mass? I don't care about letting my arms fall by the wayside, as I figure the mass there is slowing them down. But my chest, back, shoulders, and traps, could I maintain my mass there by doing 3-5 reps 2-3 sets? I don't figure that large trunk muscles slows my limbs down, with the exception of taisabaki. But dodging hasn't been my problem.
  25. I'm trying to figure out how I can lift more weight with minimal size gains. I'm rather small, and whenever I put on more muscle I got slower. Right now, I'm using my own calestenics routine, but it's not quite as...fulfilling as lifting was. I remember reading something about 1-3 reps being for power, 4-6 reps for strength, and 7-12 reps for size. I'm not sure, so can someone help me with this? Anyway, I guess the question is... can someone tell me how to lift more without getting more size? Thanks in advance.
