What are Your Favorite Combo's..........
ZakariRu replied to coltmakai's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
big sucker for the jab-reverse punch or backfist reverse punch combo. also i like rear leg hook kick into spinning hook kick (that spells ippon for me lately =p) and my other new toy combo is reverse punch backfist-grab at the wrist-hook kick over the top. -
dont bring the wkf up ;-p When karate is an olympic sport kata will be an event. this keeps karate on a little bit more developed plane then just fighting. When was the last time you saw a wkf tournament? the current international competitors are the best thing to happen to karate since nakayamas original group of egotistical students in the 50s and 60s. They elevate karate. Olympics also draw a clear cut line between sport, and combat art.

Short term, Medal internationally (just showing up isnt enough for me anymore). Id also like to medal when i turn 19 and go adult at nationals (aau w00t) Long term, open my Own dojo (or 2 or 3) im in the process of this right now also in the long term department Id like to go to the olympics (so much political bs with the wkf i dont know if it will ever happen)

heh i train in like 2 different shotokan dojos and one goju dojo. In traditional jka dojos, and (the jka hq for that matter) no pads are ever worn. all techniques are thrown with full speed and full intent and they are just deadened on impact (except for sweeps). At my kumite coaches dojo, we wear mouthguards and 12 or 16 oz gloves when we fight. goju dojo we just wear what we wear in tournaments (cloth fistguards and mouth guard) as for the comment about it being fair fighting a higher ranking person. rank means diddly squat in kumite. you dont have to be a nidan to be fast enough to KO people. you just need to be able to commit your hands and feet to hitting someone. Alot of people when they fight high ranking or excelent fighters (i still do it every now and then when i fight my kumite coach) are very nervous about getting hit, if every time before you throw a technique you think about getting hit you cant really commit full speed to the technique and you will most likely get hit =p If you ever want to be a kumite competitor youll have to look forward to fighting people who are alot better then you, and when you fight them constantly tell yourself you can hit them, and you most likely will hit them =p

one of my best friends from lebanon(his father was from palistine) told me about how when isreal was declared independent his grandfather lost his entire farm and most of his family's status and wealth. I dont know about you, but go somewhere in middle america. Find a Privite farm and take the land and give it to some europeans. See what that farmer will do to keep whats his. or get it back once its taken. And so what if President bush declared that we shall pursue terrorist wherever they are. that doesnt give us the right to overthrow governmetns and bomb countries. Most americans are so busy deciding what to wear today that they understand nothing of the middle east, when declarations like this are made. Why would they care who dies and where? ending the rant. On a side note. The U.S. special forces moto translates ruffly "to free the oppressed" sometimes i wonder if it should read "to defend the oil market and american intrest"

wait so 9 5-11 year olds can say wait I dont want to live with a terrorist~!~~!!!? Thats right no they can't.

funakoshi changed his opinion on what karate was several times. IF you ever read his book, ryu kyu kemp karate. Its much more involved with fighting and not so much perfection of character. The lack of application and more philosophical aspects he started stressing later in life. Karate-jutsu and karatedo are the same things. And my question was as to if you had studied Japanese? Or ever been to japan? How about lived there? Studying a Japanese or Okinawan martial art does not make you A Japanese Major.....
-
So Isreal aircraft bombing an apartment building and killing 13+ people (9 of which were children) to get to one Palistiny militant, seems a bit shady to me. Any one else? What are you guys opininons on the entire pali/isy conflict. Very curious as too an opinion from our U.K. and Australian buddies to see if they tell you guys anything different. (All most all news is portrayed to make the people of Palistine always look like they deserved it in america)

Generally speaking the bunkai for jka/nakayama. Is quite simple and bs... Vince morris and several others have been writing books on other bunkai for awhile now. many more locks/throws.
-
lol. O-Sensei is a merely a title for the founder of a style. have you ever studied japanese? there are several throws in karatedo kyohan and the best karate series. Ill check dynamic karate (nakayamas big boook) and get back to you.
-
negative negative negative choki wasnt first. And we use sanchin in hyakuhachiho and nijushiho. Hangetsu and sanchin are different
-
and there were two styles of karate around before funakoshi went to japan. Goju and shorin. O-Sensei was also the first person to take karate to japan.
-
shotokan has no throws??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WTF! Tekki shodan, nidan, and sandan?? Gojushihosho and dai. Heian shodan even has a huge take down in it.... Actually when i think about it there is a throw in almost ever single kata..... Shotokan has alot of throws and takedowns.

Have you ever been in real fight?
ZakariRu replied to leo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
how much do the grappling gloves weigh again? boxergenics are usually 8. the ouano ones are usually 8 or 10. who said they were boxing gloves? -

ZakariRu replied to leo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
so tapout are you 12 or were you just knocked back into that state of mind? the point was that nhb events dont mimick real fights. Ive never put on an 8 oz glove before a fight. you might have, but i havent.. And dont assume so much about what i know and dont know, it just makes you look arrogant. -

ZakariRu replied to leo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Every single fight i have ever been in has ended with someone on the ground. 9 out of 10 times the person on the ground is the one that is unconcious. there is nothing real about the ufc. espicially the gracies they change the rules everytime they fight someone better than them. Real fights between grown folk usually start with a sucker punch, and 2 or 3 good friends right behind them...... Alot of untrained people when they start getting hit like to move closer. this way you cant hit them anymore. then its usually a wrestling match until someone slips away and starts punching again. also if you have an earring that is the other thing coming out right away. -
taekwon do reality factor
ZakariRu replied to blood talon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well im glad you thought it was clever. Alot of the great stand up grappling techniques and breaks from kata (that block isnt really a block, and that punch really isnt a punch, remember i said that) dont work from a **** stance. I dont understand how sparring has anything to do with selfdefense -

Of course TKD is aimed towards self defense! they wear cups when they compete~! -
spending 2 weeks in japan and eating large quanities of everything!! (we were full every meal i ate mayve 10 times the ammount i did when im back home) i lost 10 pounds without one bit of muscle loss (in 12 days mind you) ramen, eel, rice, more sushi!, tofu tofu, a big mac~ more Real ramen!!!!! (mroe rice more rice more rice.) i have nothing but respect for sumi wrestlers... how anyone gets fat in that country is beyond me. you walk every where (you can get to anywhere in the country practicly by train and foot) so to get skinny dont diet... Just move to tokyo...... p.s. when you move back expect to gain 20 pounds.....

ZakariRu replied to blood talon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
horse stance, cat stance, backstance (your guys call it an L stance?) front stance espicially are all directly from shotokan karate. The weight distrobution and feet postiioning is slaughtered!~~!! in 9/10 tkd competitiors. Look at the TKD passai, (or the TSD passai for that matteR) then look at a sh ito or shotokan bassai. I know and train with enough tkd competitors (i live in a town with 1 karate dojo for ever 7 tkd dojangs ranging from olympic sparring nonstop, to ITF and TSD) I feel qualified to state that I know that most of you guys dont do the stances right, or have decent draw hands/elbows for that matter not trying to be disrespectful but i know tsd/WTF guys who come to japanese dojos to learn the kata(or is it poom se?) properly. -
Yet more advice Spirtuality isnt neccassary for the martial arts, if your really looking for that, try kendo/kyudo maybe. Shorinji kempo is very very fufilling spiritual as well, i do that on sundays instead of going to temple these days Ive found that i grow much faster as a person if i work on just technique, or just the internal aspects. (except for the goju ryu kata i do they screw up my whole program) I set my spiritual training aside along time ago and said I am taking time out to sit and breathe for me. not just my karate. Ive got a long list of great books on spitrualality/martial arts, let me know if your want the names or for me to stick one in a mail box I always need to sit down and evaluate why im training, sometimes i cant find an answer. when i got back from a tournament in tokyo a in april, i ran my forms like twice to be read for a coming tournament. that was it. I did absolutely nothing but play videogames and read until a month or so ago (nother tournament coming up) So in short, if i wanted just physical fitness id run and jump rope more. If i wanted just spirituality id go to temple and spend more time sitting at home. the only reason i still train is because of how much of my person its part of now and how much i love to stand in front of hundreds-thousands of people and hook kick my best friends from all over the world in the head. Take a break if you need it but just try changing your personal routine before you change your style. (if your dont have fun when you work out at home, dont workout ; - ) nuff said
