Grappling is worthless!!!!!! And eye of the tiger, all blocks are redirections, those hard kihon blocks are utterly worthless not so much as grappling but almost.(they make nice strikes)

your already wrong, i dont lean back when i kick. and when i kick it lands before people have time to punch, you might be the one exception to the hundreds of people if fought, in dojos and in tournaments. I kick at all 3 ranges even internationally and dont get countered.

Thats higly debateable. i have round kicked people toe to toe, and hooked kick them even closer and like i said before very few people kick well. bwhahahaha.

you guys dont throw side kicks right my side snap kick goes three feet. my side thrust kick goes about 8 and half with my sliding foot (ashi something, damn japanese) my round house goes from one corner of the ring to the other BWAHAHAHAHAHA and believe me when i say that you have to step to throw a punch that far. oi zuki is not a fast technique by any standards. you can get hit in hte middle of the step easily, and there is ample time when you are out of range to either step further away, or move in. I haven ever seen anyone but well me throw oi zuki in competition. (that was sanbon zuki anyway with me cheating)

My kumite coach (other side of the state) started out as tSD and then converted to shotokan, so they can all punch and kick. now my defense of my troll 1. More power!!! (this one is followed by a grunt like home improvement) True (no doubt!) 2. Faster! You are mistaken my hands are most certainly quicker. heres the challenge, well start from about 7 feet away, you throw a punch and ill throw a kick and we will see who gets hit first. 3. Better Range a step or reverse punch will cover alot more ground the further you overextend a kick the less power. A kicker can also be jammed just stay in close where he cant extend his legs. If a kicker can control the range (like all fighters should be able to, however with karate stylist this is a problem as most of them stand toe to toe) they wont be jammed. 6. People dont see them as quickly because the movement starts below the waist. (hands start at the hand if your good or at the shoulder if your like most americans) I find most kicks easier to pick up that hand techniques. The shifting of weight and other telegraphing makes it easier. not if you do it right, im quite good at throwing kicks without shifting my weight or stepping up to throw a lead leg kick, you just need decent footwork. (no where near as good as my kumite coach, and my kata coach is a great kicker too he just dosent have the footwork) P.S. no one has touched that with the new wkf rules you have to kick

Better Range. now 2 and 3 if you compare the distance a foot travels to its target to the distance a hand travels. a rear leg kick goes maybe 3 or 4 times as far as a lead hand attack, with only a slight increase to time start to finish. So hands do get from point a to point be in less time, but they travel a whole lot less distance so really they are slower! and for that mater my lead leg round house is only .05 slower than my lead hand kizami 4. in shobu sanbon jodan geri = IPPON!!!! 5. in the New wkf system jodan geri = SANBON! 5 and 1/2. in the new WKF system Chudan geri = nippon!!!! 6. Lethal smecial. Incapacitating maybe. but it would be alot easier for me to kill someone with a lead leg kick to the temple then it would be for me to do with a reverse punch to the body. And im a shotokan competitor. When was the last time you saw two people square off before they fight? 2 trained martial artist with killing intent? Kata not for fighting? blah. Every real fight ive been in since middle school has been finished in one technique. The real applications of kata and the simple kumite drills have done more for my self defense then free sparring the japanese way, or the modern way. Has anyone here really had time to square off before fighting? where everything people base there judgements on kata come into play?

15 is the perfect time to start shotokan maybe 14 is a little better but i started when i was 15. I was competing internationally before i was 17 so if you are slightly athletic and have a good work ethic you will pick it up right away. Shotokan as most popular karate style..... Yes, but not really. It depends on where you go it varies state to state in the us either goju or shotokan from the midwest on. and the west coast is tied between ****oryu and shotokan. (i think sh ito is winning) In Japan very little shotokan. Its almost All Shi to-ryu. Shotokan still has more then goju and wado though. In europe shotokan is all over the place. And every karateka ive ever met from Syria, Lebanon or any middle eastern country for that matter has been shotokan. -: this is not you being over testestorned i have cracked ribs and had cracked ribs from doing reverse punch drills where we were developing that same mind set. (ISKF club awhile back) I honestly dont think it does much good though

no doubt yall shotokan is purely japanese. The stances, the kata, the kata names, kumite, and kicks are quite different these days then they were back in the 1900s. JKA karate is alot more technical then funakoshis karate. Look at the SKA, by Modern shotokan stylist standards they are lacking in alot of areas. (not trying to be disrespectful but it is too different from all other shotokan.)if you can find the old funakoshi black and white kata movies it is so ugly its not even funny looks alot like chito ryu kata

I actually was at the All japan junior a few months ago, i also did alot of kumite at JKA headquarters. the kumite i saw from the japanese was well controled but the timing and setups was lacking majorily. Japanese fighters ive fought, and or watched dont fake, they just kinda sit there, and then throw a technique very quickly. your right about the us and for the UK, have you ever seen Ronnie miller (not sure on the last name) fight? hes won sevral euro cups. but then again hes black

thats the way i feel about it O-sensei, said that he only knew of shorin ryu and miyagi sensei's gojuryu. but that was back in 1920something.... plenty of ancient and traditional styles have been invented since then.
