greenbelt_girl15 replied to KickChick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I started when I was 13, I wish I had started earlier but I was kinda shy -
I have a belt test coming up in about six weeks and I have a good deal of philosophy to memorize and review.I was wondering if anyone had some tips/techniques for memorization.

I am! I'm so excited to see how everything pulls together.Like you said how does Anikan become Darth Vader? And how about what happened to Padme after Luke and Leia are born. I hope I get to see it soon after it comes out but since we don't have a theater it might be awhile.

I don't see anything wrong with being a Christian martial artist (I am) in general. However for some Christians it very well may be a stumbling block especialy if the martial art you are involved in is deeply connected to an Eastern religion such as Taoism.

I must say that when I saw it I was a bit under-whelmed to.There were several fight scenes that were great but it definantly isn't the best movie. -
What weapon do you actually carry?
greenbelt_girl15 replied to pressureguy's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Sometimes I carry a knife but more for practicality than self-defence.You realy don't need to carry a weapon where I live. -
We use rubber knives for self-defence practice at my dojo but I guess my first weapon would be the tambo.

Hi Taikioku_forever! Welcome to Karate forums

i was asked by family to asked a few questions on sparring?
greenbelt_girl15 replied to matbla's topic in Karate
1. What is sparring? In my school we practice sparring for several resons.one is to develop and practice skills. Even though there are some general rules sparring helps you get used to what might happen in a real life situation. In our dojo beginers are not alowed to free spar.Instead they are taught somthing called pre-aranged sparring where one person is attaker and one is defender both know what the other will do.Later we are alowed to free spar and lean how to use the skills that we arre learning. 3. What gear do you use? The gear starts with hand, and foot gear, mouthgaurd, and for guys groin protection. Some dojos also require head gear. There's also chest guards, and shin guards. -
I think that you can gain basic info from a book and in many cases learn alot, however I also think that to truly gain a proper understanding of the style you have to have an instructor.

Those were great poems isshinryu5 Here's one of mine. Gently shines the sun On this day bright and warm Watching friends play Everything seems norm Yet far,far away In a land harsh and dry Our brave courageous soldiers Do battle, fight and die. Not only for our country Do they do this thing But for each Iraqi's freedom And so the people may sing Of liberty and justice That brought down their dictator king. Three cheers for coalition troops Saddam is now in jail He'll never, ever rule again His riegn as tyrant's failed. And though the war's not over We can rest a bit at ease Cuz we know we fight For what is right; Freedom and liberty. Not one of our soldiers Died in vain they made Iraqs Dream come true But we must remember that Freedom of this world will fade Away with death, 'tis very true. For Freedom of this world Offers nothing in Gods 'ternal land So now Iraqi's need Grace from Christs hand. This freedom from the Lord Bests all freedom on the world Releasing us from sins death grip Making us children of the Lord.

Cuong Nhu Cuong Nhu was started by Ngo Dong in vietnam in 1965. It has roots in Shotokan Karate and conbines aikido,Judo,Wing Chun, Vovinam, Tai Chi Chuan, and Boxing.Because it conbines so many arts it has both hard and soft aspects. This is where we get the name Cuong Nhu which means hard soft in vietnames. We practice kata, sparring, and self defence conbinations, among other things.

Of corse you're not the only one Shotokankid. I to have been known for grabing a kitchen knife or two when I have to check out a scary noise. One time my mom forgot to tell me that she was leaving my sleeping baby brother home when she went shopping.when I started hearing noises back there it scared me half to death, when I finaly got the nerve to check it out it was just my brother and the wind blowing through the cutain! lol
