  1. The Last Samurai. Beautifully photographed, excellent fighting, and a great story within the story. I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but I have to admit he picked that stuff up quicker than I would have. The guy can move.
  2. My 10 year old says, in order: Naruto One Piece Full Metal Alchemist Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball GT Dragon Ball I myself was a Speed Racer and Kimba fan back in the day.
  3. I don't know, those knights could take a lot of flesh wounds. What if Ditka was in the fight? Who wins? Da Bears.
  4. My vote is Roadhouse, if you could call it a martial arts movie. That "pulling the heart out of your chest" move was the stupidest thing ever.
  5. Come on. How do you not like Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2?
  6. Actually, I've thought about getting a medicine ball or two. My current home gym is kinda small compared to my last one. Plus, my kids have the nerve to need braces and snow boots. What's up with that?
  7. Try it, Bushido Man. I find I can dec bench lift quite a bit more than my flat bench. Works great for rounding out the lower edge of your pecs. Plus, it feels like you're Da Man when you crank out those last couple of reps.
  8. And I follow it up with some Vitamin M = Motrin. Love that stuff!
  9. I have had to get used to kicking closer to my opponent in Muay Thai. In order to contact the target with your shin instead of your foot, you need to stand closer. It's weird. But man, that shin bone hurts your thigh a lot more than a foot does.
  10. I can just imagine it: "Honey, I have to go school now. Big exam today in my Vale Tudo class."
  11. That's not just your opinion, Bushido Man. A fair number of us agree with you, including even the OP I think.
  12. Nope, nicely summarized. We don't like cheap shots either, or sucker punches, or egotistical punks with something to prove. We're lethal but happy.
  13. Regular shoes hurt your partner when training. I like the idea of MA shoes, though.
  14. Bench angles work different muscles. Your buddy probably has a stronger upper chest and maybe shoulders, whereas you likely have stronger lower chest and maybe triceps. How do you compare on the decline?
  15. Another evil trick he had was punching guys repeatedly in the side of the ribs while he was waiting for them to do something. They couldn't defend against it the way he had them locked. Man, have you ever had that done to you? It hurts - a LOT.
  16. That's great to hear! Welcome to the forums.
  17. Fast, repetitive high-rep lifts with light weights are good, too. You'll work different muscle fibers than the heavy lifts you do with reps of less than 10 per set. Like BM said, think of working out aerobically but with something that your body has to resist against, for short durations.
  18. Umm...dude...because it hurts...
  19. Oh yeah, if anyone else is experiencing (or has experienced) this or something similar, I'd love to hear about it. Or if you have any other ideas. Or whiskey recommendations to kill the pain....
  20. Thank you, Bushido Man, but no, not yet. It isn't bad enough to even do cortisone shots yet. It doesn't affect my walking, running, climbing stairs, or even leg presses unless I sleep on it too much in any one night. If I do side kicks, though, I can barely raise my left hip to the side the next day. So I don't do them...or at least, I am going to stop. (So you guys should attack me from my left side, and kick my hip. ) The bursa is a fat pad sac that rests between the high point on your outer thigh bone and the iliotibial band tendon to your leg muscles, along with the hip abductor muscle. Pressure on it can inflame it - like sleeping on your side. Also, the friction from moving the tendon and/or muscle over the bone can inflame it. It's a chronic condition, but take away the pressure and friction and it will generally heal. It works like tendinitis: never really goes away, but can get okay if you eliminate the problem motion. I've seen a couple of old threads where people had difficulty with side kicks like me. I'll bet they had the same thing. My physical history gets me where I am now, so getting a softer bed... ... and eliminating problem kicks are my next steps. Like you, I don't really want to give up the active MA that I like. One step at a time.
  21. Yep, that was my plan. Thanks, it's nice nice to see we're in sync.
  22. I've been almost unable to push in the clutch when I got back out to my car to go home, though.
  23. I agree with you both. I'd rather be defending my tactics after having escaped alive, while the guy in the hospital who started it is whining about my cheap shots.
  24. I got in a fight about 10 years ago with my roommate when we were each wearing 40 lbs of full flight gear. It was just after a flight where some colorful things happen that I wasn't happy about. It devolved into a lot of shoving because neither one of us could move very well. Other guys broke it up, but it was...interesting. As far as kicks, I like the low roundhouse; the front push and snap kicks; and the back kick if someone is behind me. I never like to turn my back on an opponent in order to kick.
  25. I like the idea. Hopefully they can get a school on the west coast and one in the Midwest to offer similar programs. Imagine your job interview with "BA MMA" on the curricula vitae.
