  1. We usually take no less than a year of rigorous training for Shodan, but thats not to say it can be done with less time, different schools have different requirements
  2. second one was kinda lame compared to the first, the fighting wasnt as intense and the last fight was pretty awful, and the other two were just bad. The first had awesome fights and James Earl Jones
  3. Practice. some people have tips or tricks to it, but what it comes down to is practice. Do the technique often and fast
  4. I had to do a scissor kick for 3rd kyu, its a take down move for us.. not sure if its the same one as you're talking about, but it has the same name
  5. I practice a Japanese art, and we have all of those kicks, so I doubt anything these days are really style specific. We also do side kicks with the heel insead the blade of the foot as is common in Korean MA's
  6. If your feet turn purple and/or fall off then there is no circulation
  7. I used to get together with a few of my friends and fight with various "swords" which were nothing but pvc covered with foam and wrapped in duct tape, its very fun and even without pads its not too dangerous.. we only drew blood a few times
  8. Wow, at my school they have only promoted five people to Shodan in 8 years, only one has made it to sandan so far
  9. You can use Shi and Shichi before 10, but after that its best to use Yon and Nana (at least thats what my Japanese sister in law says)
  10. You should be able to take it to an embroidery shop, just print out the kanji and ask them if they can sew it on. Thats all I do for the Kyokushin kanji
  11. My mom
  12. I know many males with the same goals. Running, dilignet training and overall hard work will reach all of those goals no problem.
  13. Well I personally use the front hand/foot to measure distance so that I can hit harder with the back, I think thats how they do it in boxing also, and I'm sure other MA's do it as well
  14. Most all kyokushin, not just in Denver
  15. I rent movies from Netflix, and I've gotten a few of the ones you're talking about, Sonny Chiba plays Oyama and does quite a good job at it.. Exellent movies a must see for any karateka
  16. I'm a long practicing Catholic, the only real difference in the bible translation we use are the extra books in the old testament mentioned above.
  17. that would be a good idea but have it for the entire church not just the preachers. I actually study karate in a church as well as a dojo and I know many other churches that offer other kinds of martial arts including karate and BJJ
  18. repetition with good technique will build speed and power, I try not to focus on the speed of power as they come almost without trying
  19. that happend at my dojo, but then again we tore a hole in the side of the bag within a few months of owning it, it was also bought brand new
  20. I had to fight three blackbelts my first day of class... and I have to say it did hurt a bit
  21. In my style we have to break with hands and feet, so we train for power and accuracy on a regular basis in the dojo
  22. I dunno about all of you, but the ninja turtles opened the doors to all those movies for me, I'm talking about the old saturday morning cartoon, not all this new stuff they have out now
  23. I was fighting my first day
